Rifle Scopes Arken SH4 Gen2 6-24x50 VPR MIL

Wow! Tyler at MKM really hooked it up. These illumination and parallax wheels are the tits. Smooth as butter now. Actually just now put the battery in 🤣
Nice mag throw as well.

I see Arken added 56mm caps to their site. Pretty sure the scope covers they already sell fit up to 59mm...🤔
Yes, but if you measure the OD (outside diameter) of the objective bell on the 50mm scope, it is 59mm, so I would assume the 5-25x56mm scope is probably going to have around a 65mm OD bell.

The scope specs for the objective lens measurement is just that, a measurement of the lens, not the OD of the bell where the cap/cover fits.

Hope that makes sense.

Tried to get on the arken website this morning to check the status of the last scope I ordered and to place order for the new ep 5 but the site is blank and appears to be down?

Just got a reply from arken Optics from a message I sent them early this morning about their site being down and inquiring about my last scope order on the 23rd. Got me a tracking number and it's in the mail lol. Not too shabby, I figured it would take longer with the holiday weekend and week.

Well, with 12/31/21 being the last day of the $100 off, or the full-price + FREE Precision Pack coupon, and today being 12/31/21... I decided WTF... It's only debt, right? 🙄

We're gonna see what their ED glass is all about. And since I've bought all 4 of my Arken scopes, and now have plenty of skin in the game, I'm gonna compare it honestly to my SH4's and my Strike Eagle 5-25x56, which will be a VERY equal comparison as far as features, mag, objective size, tube size, 10 MIL turrets, etc...

I reckon I'll end up putting the new EP5 on my .260 Rem, since it's setup equally to my 5R Milspec .308 that has the Strike Eagle on it. I want as apples-to-apples as possible. I'll probably end up putting the SH4 that's on the .260 Rem right now, on my 6.5 Grendel re-build.
Which height rings did you order with the EP5? Also I should ask what barrel contour will the scope be on top of?

700 5R .260 Remington with a 5R/Sendero/Varmint profile barrel. I went with the 0.92" rings, because the 50mm's have plenty of clearance on my rifles, and my Strike Eagle 5-25x56 cleared on the same rifle with 0.92" Seekins/Vortex rings and the sunshade, and a Butler Creek flip-cap. It's a tight fit, but still plenty of room where it won't touch during recoil. 👍🏼

I also got Arken #2 mounted on the Armalite AR10 T tonight. I used the same 1 piece Arken mount as I did on the RPR. Scope sits a little bit higher on the AR10, I may order the medium height rings-maybe not, cheek weld is good & it doesn't sit too high. I'll make a decision after how I think it works after sighting it in tomorrow.

@wolf... that pic of the RPR sittin in that case is makin me want to get my hands on one. Dang it, I don't need another rifle to need to get more scopes for... geeeeez. I saw an RPR with a full pic rail on top of the handguard, and that thing was super slick!! Must resist, must resist... UGH!!

On my AR10 and the medium rings, the scope sat too far back for me to get a good sight picture. The AR10 truly needs the offset mount for the ergonomics to work correctly. Just my experience.

DK
The Trijicon I took off the AR10 had individual Vortex rings & I was able to get the scope where it needed to be. I believe you're right though about the Arken benefitting better with the offset mount due to the shorter adjustable ring mount surface. I believe the Trijicon had more tube surface area which allowed it to slide further back & forth in the rings.

It's good the way it sets now, but us gun ASSHOLES are never happy until we FUCK with it till it isn't good- then back it up a notch 😂🤣

I started mounting my scopes higher on non-AR rifles last year due to neck issues and found the higher scope height made for a more comfortable shooting position. I use the Arken medium height 1.26" rings on the bolt guns.

Here's the current lineup that has Arken SH4 GenII 6-24x50 MIL scopes and Arken mounts/rings.

Tippmann M4-22
Strike Industries stock
Harrell radial brake tuner
Larue 2-stage trigger

I ordered the EP5 the other day after shooting an SH version on a CZ .22 Reticle looks a bit thin for me so we shall see. If it works out I have a 4x16HS-T that will make it to the PX for a second one.

My only gripe is I don’t think the illumination on the 4-16 is going to be enough for what I wanted to use it for.
I’m going to try a fresh battery and give it a good try.

I just hope they fixed the illumination on the EP5... The SH4 illumination sucks unless it's nearly completely dark...Even with a fresh battery and on max setting. That was one of my biggest gripes about the SH4 Gen2 scopes. Luckily, I don't shoot much after dark, so it's not a deal-killer, but I do hope they brightened that up a decent amount.

A part of me wishes illuminated reticle was brighter, then again, it's not a red dot sight. I took the AR10 out today to sight it in. It was a puking rain - dark cloudy SHIT day, again lol. Didn't "need" the illumination, but did use it the last few shots. 6 was too bright, level 4 was perfect for conditions today, shitty-muddy-rainy.. I'll fine tune it next outting, DAMN I love these scopes!!

I threw this together over the holidays.
I-7” bear creek upper, Anderson lower.
I really didn’t have anything to put the Arken on besides a wood stock 308 and it looked totally out of place. Lol
I’m going to try 73 grain elds and 75 grain bthp with some rl15 to start.

...received a much appreciated response from Arken over my questions about the clearance of the EP5's 56mm bell on full length pic rails when using the Rigid 20MOA rail. The response was reassuring, but I acknowledge that I'll just have to do it to finally know if it fits the image I have in my mind.

My question to Arken:
"clearance of the new 56mm objective bell when using the Arken 20 MOA Rigid mount on an AR platform with a full length 1913 top rail handguard. I would like clarification on how much clearance is provided when it is used in the following configurations:

1.Without the sunshade.
2. Without sunshade and using "Flip Its"
3. With Sunshade.

4. With sunshade and using "Flip Its" on sunshade"

Arken response:
"There will be no difference between sunshade or not for height honestly. The rigid mount is 1.5" (38mm)to the center of the rings. Which 1/2 of 56 would be 28mm, so it will clear easily even with the flip its. Thanks for the support and business."

Which 1/2 of 56 would be 28mm

Not really if 56mm is inner lens diameter, NOT the OD thickness with scope body factored in. It'll be at least 3mm more than the 50mm OD if they kept manufacturing process the same for scope body construction. Iirc, the 50mm has an OD of 59mm. If new EP5 56mm housing is the same thickness, puts it at a 65mm OD? 1/2 would be 32.5mm

....to be honest, before committing to a purchase, I just needed to know if there would be a clearance issue with the newer EP5 when used in the 20MOA rail, which as I understand it when using a 20MOA rail, will influence how far down the front of the scope tilts. Using the sunshade, in my mind at least, will extend that distance further out and therefore due the tilt, decrease the clearance. Attaching the caps will influence it more due the thickness of the cap. Orientation of the cap's hinge also needs to be taken into consideration, my personal preference is the cap flips down to lie flat on the rail out of the way and a lesser visual distraction.

...I tend to "analyze", comes from the many years in my previous professional field....but nowadays I prefer to go with the "simple" in my retirement phase of life. I do appreciate those folks posting pics of their rigs using the Arken scope & mount, gives me info I can extrapolate. My thanks to those who have done so 👍

Question about the Arken ocular scope cap. Anyone know how to set it to open wider? Pic on packaging show 2 different positions, but not how to do it.
The caps have multiple positions you can set it too. Like my Aadmount caps, if you work with them a bit, the edges wear in a bit and will allow it to open fully with just a flick of the finger. I do all my caps this way. Works perfectly.

Anybody else have fuzzy illumination if you go even slightly off-axis? This is on a 6-24x50 SH4 Gen II.
There is some illumination short comings across the board.
I think it has more to do with price than anything. At some point all these features will up the price. They probably went with a cheaper illumination set up and focused more on durability.
