Looking for shooters who want to split some accomadations. Me and my buddy are looking to split some cost or looking for recommendations on places to stay for the match. We aren't high maintance and do not care if it is a couch or a floor just let me know. Looking forward to this match.
Thanks

Re: Asc competition

Some guys might have rented cabins, with a few beds to spare.

Usually the rooms at Yokums above the store are booked. The ones on the highway are noisy, and the running water is less than ample.

Re: Asc competition

Gotta love the decoration at Yokum's

The rooms up by Harpers store are nicer

Re: Asc competition

Yes... And that flytrap is directly above a pillow. Oh and I believe that is crap that flows through that pipe as well. Glad it was above Benjies bed.

I never pulled my sheets back. I think they may rent that by the hour if Im not mistaken.

Judging by the curtains that must be the honeymoon suite. I bet it was a magical weekend.

Stayed in a cabin once (after walking into and immediately out of a motel room), since then have had a fine time camping next to the waterfall, it's cheap, has toilet and shower access, plus you can walk to Rod's and stumble back. Am sufficiently beat, especially Sat night, that I sleep like I'm back in Momma's arms.

Spot on.

1.Practice milling targets.
2.Bring more water than you think you will need.
3.Angle cosign indicator is your friend
4.RAIN GEAR (Even if it is sunny, sheep shit is slippery in the morning and you will be laying in it)
5.Be preppared for the best beef tenderloin you will ever eat on Sat night
6.Give Rod a hard time every chance you get!!!!!!!!!

I do

Three things are keepiong me off the mountain.
1. My best friend/traveling partner is having his first born arrive next week.
2. It my daughters birthday
3. Missing mothers day two years in a row is not the way to keep the marriage stable.

I will be missing the mountain while I am hanging out with Minnie Mouse

Re: Asc competition

Blaster,

I bookes two rooms above Yokums store, which are 5 star compared to down the road. If your interested in it, send me a PM. WE are not going to need both the rooms. They are double beds and should work out good for you, prices are cheap split up two ways.

Re: Asc competition

I may need that room. I don't have one yet? Let me know if the other guy dont take it. I was just planning to get one when i get there? Should I go ahead and get one somewhere?

Actually, I usually find that I've packed way more water than I actually need. And water isn't light. It comes down to personal habits and conditioning, I guess.

Definitely bring rain gear, no matter what the weather says. Also put some cold/cool weather gear in your car, no matter what the weather says. A couple years ago it was snowing on May 9, it had been 85* two days earlier.

Bring something to take notes and keep score with, it's up to every competitor to keep track of his/her own scorecard. I've personally found it easier to keep score in my databook and then later transfer that to the 8x11 scoresheet than it is to keep pulling that folded paper out and try to keep it from blowing off between stages.

Bring ballistics data for out to at least 1400 yds.

Wear boots with ankle support. A lot of the hiking will be cross country and the country here is as much vertical as anything else.

Find someone to shoot with the entire time. Stay with them and work with them. Switch off shooting wind bitch for each other and spotting impacts. It will greatly increase your success rate and also helps keep your head in the game. Trying to solo it, especially the first time, there's a good chance you will be a bit overwhelmed at times and make mental errors. There is a lot going on at any one location on the mountain and there is very little hand holding by the ROs. They have enough to worry about. This isn't a "because you're a new guy thing," it's just the best way to do well against the mountain.

Plan on carrying 75-100 rounds per day. At any one time you should only need to have at most about 10 rounds readily available, though. A ton of magazines aren't needed.

Not much point in carting a shooting mat around all day, you won't generally stay in one place long enough to justify unpacking/packing it.

Show up zero'd and ready to go. Your first shot of the match may very well be 750yds across a canyon during a minor hurricane.

In general knee/elbow pads don't see much use. Most folks, as I've observed, don't bother packing them.

That is only hilarious because its you.

Re: Asc competition

Packing less is good advice, I carry less everytime I go to ASC. My shooting partners know this and every match I have a little more of there gear in my pack. I won't fall for that trick any more, "look, my bag is only half full". See you all on the mountain.

Re: Asc competition

A little bit up the road is the Smoke Hole hotel. If everything closer is booked it is a viable option. Not my first choice, however, because it does add 15-20min to your drive each way.

We are both bringing our own packs this time Steve. And don't worry, we checked and they will fit completely within the main compartment of yours...

Re: Asc competition

Well the mountain is almost done. Set one target and paint some and all is ready. Lots of new fun stuff this time. Several new scenerio based shots, and a couple to really test rifle operation. No PIPES this time but several other shots to make you hate a muzzle break. Several new target locations on all three days. Weather was warm the last two days but it rained hard enough yesterday to hurt you and drown a frog!! One new shot may be one of the coolest shots we have ever done!!!! Rod has a new shot designed to get your heart and breathing rate up. Not sure what he is calling it but it should be called 80 Seconds..Man time flies. I am doing one that Matt wanted to call lucky 13. Maybe I should have stayed with that.. Should be a great time!! See everyone on thursday.. Brock

Re: Asc competition

Will the stages be fast with lots of rounds to get off? Do I need access to to my mags quick? IE is it worth wearing a belt with mag holders? Or will you get to a stage drop your stuff and get out two mags lay them beside you and use them off the ground? I am trying to keep it as light as I can and I have no idea what to expect?

Re: Asc competition

I'm just gonna bring all my kit for the first day and shed accordingly after that. I should roll in about meeting time. I got a room at yokums. Wish I had known there was some space ace but I am good with three night reserved. The only thing I don't have this time is a back up gun. Im just keeping my fingers crossed that the 280 don't break. I got 260 rounds loaded. Plenty of mountain food. 4 liters of fluid in camel baks. Did I forget anything? I am a little unsure about the spotting scope but I'm gonna take it the first day and see what happens. See you all at Yokums vacation land.

Re: Asc competition

Yeah guys, good luck, especially to the Mayberry crew.

If someone could take photos and post them, that would be much appreciated by us guys not lucky enough to be going... thanks.

Re: Asc competition

Guys, dress for the weather, remember weather up on the mountain is cooler than what the forecast calls for seneca rocks.

Can't wait to see everyone up there and get on the mountain again!

Re: Asc competition

Another great match and made some very challenging new shots, got to brush up on the positional stuff for next match. Thanks to John, Rod, Trey (sp?), Matt, David, and of course Brock on the tenderloin!!

Army dogs tried to kill me with their hiking speed, but old, fat, and slow prevailed. You boys will learn slow and steady wins!! Good job shooting guys, hope to see you guys again sometime.

Congrats to Clark on the win, and "I still hate you"!! XOXO

Those of you that I have trained with and have never shot ASC before I hope you learned alot, you can't replicate that kind of training anywhere else.

Had an awesome time, looking forward to the next one!!!
