AT&T vs Sprint

OK, so we got this evil $240 a month bill for five phones and only three have a damn data plan...yeah, AT&T 'military rate'. We been lookin hard at Sprint, uh huh, they got all that NASCAR stuff Panty 6 loves, but it appears to be a better deal once we let our current contracts die out. Me, I am liking the Droid phones and their ease of access and use, but definately liking the fact that I, at this time, THINK I can get a better deal for a family 'everything' package.

Your thoughts, ladies?

Re: AT&T vs Sprint

You needn't buy into the "Droid" following per se. "Droid" is a TM of Motorola. "Android" is the operating system you've come to love and it is an operating system that many manufacturers utilize. For instance, I have my Sprint Evo 4G and it's been 10 times more stable than all my past windows mobile operated cell phones. Now there is the new Evo 3d and I like it alot but cannot get one because I'm still in an existing contract and cannot upgrade just yet. Look into Sprint imho.

But before you go that route, you can try making threats to Verizon about leaving for Sprint. Two things can happen at that point.

1. They call your bluff and say goodbye and goodluck.

2. They throw credits out your way to help with your bill, though sadly those seem to only get you by a few months before you're pissed again.

I'm not sure if Sprint does military discount or not. But give them a call and arm yourself with info and then decide from there. Sprint has pissed me off on many occasions, but I haven't brought myself to leave as imho, they've got the best pricing for a family plan.

Re: AT&T vs Sprint

AT&T has dropped way too many calls since we been here in mid TN. Military discount probably won't apply since I am DAV these days and currently on a VA Voc Rehab schooling program at APSU earning every bit of my past service trying to pass all the upper schooling of a great college.

If Sprint offers a vet discount cool, if not, Panty 6's first look says they have a better plan. As to Android, Droid, meh, whatever ya call it it still beats the other stuff hands down and the phones rock. We been through the AT&T offers and stuff and told them that the only reason we don't dump them is because of the prices we USED TO HAVE. Since they bailed on their lower priced data plan, they suck. Their local customer service is for crap, and if I need to have something corrected, I am usually left speaking to a non educated individual who I have to translate ebonics from to understand what way I am currently getting screwed. Calling upper level CSR's on the phone has only allowed us to use a store across town with much better customer service with CSR's who understand I do not take jack or shit from anyone in a nickel a week job and demand to be treated with the same courtesy and respect I offer everyone. Yessir, I am ready to take every AT&T phone I have and chuck them into next years mortars and blow them sky high New Years eve or the Fourth.
If Sprint offers half the level of what I expect from a company I am paying to do business with, then I will be happy. If Sprint doesn't drop every dang call from the important people I speak with(VA reps, Counselors, Voc Rehab Counselor, DAV guy, Hide members, you know, IMPORTANT folks!), then that is money ahead.
I think Panty 6 has already made the decision based on NASCAR content and only needs for current contracts to die so we can effortles make the move...well as little effort as possible, but I think Sprint may work with us if we talk nice and play well together

Re: AT&T vs Sprint

A lot depends on what you need out of your phones. Currently Sprint is the only one of the major carriers without a heavily restrictive data cap on their previously "unlimited" data plans.

So if you want a lot of Data, go with Sprint.

The overall plans however are a bit more expensive than you can get with like boost mobile (owned by Sprint) etc.

Coverage Depends on your area, for me I often have better signal when my friend using an AT&T phone gets dropped calls along the highway and I don't have problems in the same spots.

Re: AT&T vs Sprint

We are on Sprint with 4 phones on a "family" plan I think it is .... Its the GF, her sister, and her mother and my phone all on the same plan. We all have smart phones all with unlimited data ... BUT we share 1500 phone minutes between the 4 of us .... that 1500 doesnt sound like a lot but we have NEVER even come close to using all of them. That 1500 minutes is only for land line calls between the hours of 7a and 7p. ALL mobile to mobile calls are free reguardless of carrier.

I think our bill is around 225 or so per month ... its not bad I know that much. Hell Sprints unlimited plans for individual phone is only like 80 or so. But it was cheaper for us to do the family thing for her sister and mother to save some money too.

Re: AT&T vs Sprint

Having been an AT&T customer before, knowing lots of people with AT&T, and knowing lots of people with Sprint: SPRINT when your contract with AT&T is over. Less dropped calls, better phones, better plans, and a wider service area here in the SE.

Re: AT&T vs Sprint

Another key thing with Sprint:
Mobile to ANY mobile does NOT impact minutes. Only mobile to landline. Sprint is the ONLY carrier that does this.
AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc, ONLY use carrier specific mobile as free. i.e.: AT&T to AT&T, Verizon to Verizon, T-Mobile to T-Mobile.

I have Sprint and I have yet to drop a call or get crappy service. Was AT&T prior. I can't think of a thing wrong with Sprint.

There's a good reason they are called Another Tax & Tarriff

Re: AT&T vs Sprint

Wife has ATT, I dont know if something can be worse, she pays the same amount for data as I do (verizon, dont get me started on why we have seperate phone carriers plans, its a really huge fucking fight, and about the only fight we have) and only gets to use 2gb a mth, I have unlimited.

Verizon around here is alright. I think all carriers suck, I know att is a LITTLE clearer than verizon.

Re: AT&T vs Sprint

I have Sprint and have been very happy with their service. When I was having issues in my APT getting signal, I ended up receiving (after a few conversations) a Sprint AirRave local cell hot spot. It basically uses my internet to boost the signal. I went from having a bar to full service in my APT. And since I am using it for it's original intended purpose, I haven't paid for it.

That being said, stay away from the Sanyo Zio. I went through two of them with significant issues. As the second one was going, I contacted customer service and explained my situation. I convinced them to give me the 2 year upgrade at less than a year. So yeah, I still paid for the phone, but only $100 vs the $250+ it normally would have cost. Evo 4G now, and VERY happy with it.

Re: AT&T vs Sprint

I had Sprint for 12 years and left 2 years ago for Verizon mainly because I couldn't get service in the western part of the state where my hunting land was and when I called customer service I could understand the English they spoke. I have yet to go into any part of the country without service I have two Droids with unlimited data plan and 1500 min/mo shared I pay 180./mo and when I call customer service I don't have to push 1 for English and I get talk to someone here in America

Re: AT&T vs Sprint

I gotta say, yesterday sealed the deal on moving to Sprint. A call to AT&T tech/Customer service:
Why is my phone dropping calls an donly receiving 'E bar bar' for signal? Why is it dropping very important calls between me and my VA case manager? My call to Camelback just got dropped five times in teh last ten minutes.

Let me check sir. Oh it seems there are three towers on in your area awaiting maintenance. I can issue a credit opn your account of $25 sir.

Geee, thank you. When are they planning to fix these towers?

Oh they are awaiting maintenance right now sir

Yeah, we are SO done. I foresee a little visit to teh Sprint shop this weekend to see exactly how we can get out of the AT&T service, which at this point in time is neither being offered as advertised, nor is it being working to it's ability as advertised. I see a pretty fair case for leaving with no penalties since they are pretty much breaking their contract by not offereing the level of service we are paying for. Hmmmmmmm, works for me at least.

Re: AT&T vs Sprint

Look at it this way: even if you have to pay a $175 early termination fee, that's still less than a single months' bill and it'll get you out from under their shitty service. You'll also probably have a little gap before you begin monthly billing for Sprint, so it should balance out in the end. Let us know how you like Sprint!
