B14r vs t1x vs 457

Hey all I’ve been shooting a Ruger 10/22 LVT for the last few years and shot very well with it winning/ placing in small local shoots but I’m debating upgrading and figure I should move to bolt gun instead of pouring money into the ruger. The few guys I know running kidds can’t run suppressors because of fouling and gumming up so that’s a deal breaker for me. Right now I’m considering the b14r barreled actions steel or ss heavy, T1x (my prs centerfire is a t3x ctr in a whiskey 3), or a cz457 mtr or varmint.

Reviews look like accuracy out of the new b14r heavy are picky and so so and rebarreling is expensive and a pain but uses 700 accessories so opens a lot of options

T1x is a semi light profile for the job and acceptable accuracy but same ecosystem as my centerfire. If the ace was closer to 1200 I’d probably just do that.

Cz457 is the mtr worth it over the varmint? Threaded mtr are like hens teeth so either have it threaded or buy a different barrel.

If my centerfire was a 700 platform the b14r would make a ton of sense but since im running a tikka that makes the 457 and T1x seem like a more worthwhile investment?

My B14R shoots great. There are several at my range and no lemons. Small data set, but I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

I have a B14R in a MPA comp and a tikka T1X in a krg bravo. The B14R is more accurate but neither is a slouch. I swapped the trigger on the B14R to a two stage trigger tech. The factory trigger had a lot of creep even adjusted to lowest setting. T1X has the better trigger from the box and a $10 spring makes it even better

If I wanted lighter weight hunting rig I’d go T1X. Smaller/lighter, very accurate, small mags and short bolt throw

For a comp gun or range gun I’d go B14R. Very accurate, the factory stock isn’t bad, fully customizable because it uses R700 stocks/chassis, triggers etc

I dedicated the T1X to being a suppressed/thermal setup for varminting under my corn feeder in my yard. I may buy a barreled action for the factory B14R stock eventually.

Well, I’ve been blessed to own all three, and running the same ammo in each, none really stand out as being more accurate, which tells me they are grouping to the limits of the ammo.
The B14-R “feels” like a centerfire, and I love mine in Berg’s own BMP chassis.
The CZ 457 is classic CZ, but with their best rimfire trigger ever.
The T-1X is reminiscent of the Sako Finnfire, with most of the positives of that legendary action.
You can change barrels, stocks, and triggers on all three, so that’s a moot point. Bottom line is what do you want out of it?
If you can, hit a big match and afterwards see if you can try all three.

I have a t1x and a 457 varmint mtr, the cz has a heavier barrel by quite a bit. I prefer the action on the Tikka but the factory barrel on the CZ. My Tikka is in a chassis and my CZ is in the factory wood stock but it has been pillar/glass bed.

I get tighter sd's out of the CZ but only barely, maybe 1 or 2 fps on avg. Both shoot great and I can't blame my missed shots in a match on the guns. I prefer shooting the Tikka but the CZ has more aftermarket support.

I have tested all 3 extensively. The T1x shot well but i hated the trigger with spring swap. Fed fine, shot fine, factory stock was fine to me. The action did not feel.is elegant or as solid as the cz. Both are short bolt throws. The bergara is 90 degree throw feels like a much bigger rifle. I personally love their facttory stock for both look and feel. Of those 3, for competiton shooting or groups bergara. For hunting i would not choose the cz varmint bc of the heavy barrel. I would choose the tikka. And bc thr varmint isnt suppressed.
The bergara b14r is the most impressive 700 clone short of a vudoo out there. They are fantastic. Good mags, 0 issues in the 6 or 7 bergaras i have had. But the winner in the rimfire market short of vudoo but still expensive is the 457 vpt mtr. Manners stock, the short barrel out to 50yds eats sk and is .3s capable out of the box. 16in barrel allows me to.suppress it. Ans i love the camo. I can shoot groups or go.to.the woods with it. For me its the end all do all rimfire with a light scope. But after 419 base, bolt knob, and timney i have close.to 2200 in one no optics

I’ve posted bout it before but i had a T1x and a 457 Varmint both setup identically in XLR chassis. They both shot well and were about equal in precision. But the CZ just felt better and the varmint barrel helped with heat over longer strings.

So the T1x got sold.

The CZ wasn’t picky and any SV ammo grouped well enough. I just swapped the barrel for an L3i and need to do some ammo testing and now it balances great.

I hadn't picked up my B14r for nearly 3 months so I took it to range for practice run for our upcoming NRL match. 10 shot@50 yards right off the bat but couldn't duplicate though but I am still happy I have not been able to do that with my CZ or Tikka that well.

I have never seen the need to upgrade my bergara although it be really nice. Not much improvements for me in it. After last weekend RO NRL match seen vudoos and rimx with feeding issues.

Laziness and crap magazines.

I have seen the same people show up to our monthly match for 2 years and have the same issues.
The kicker? They caused the issues! Extended magazines, changing chassis and not adjusting mag height, bad/broken mags, etc.

What really gives me a good laugh is they will all wander around and say stuff like "yeah, still can't get this to work".
So they go practice with it, prove it isn't 100%, then show up to matches and make everything look like crap.


I do know a few guys using Bergara mags in MDT chassis with other guns. The mag height adjustment makes it so easy to tune in they have ditched all the expensive complicated mags for simple and reliable.

You put a 20" barrel in an ACC and it will barely clear the fore end. An 18" barrel won't clear it at all.

I sold my Arken EP5 and upgraded to the 7-35 DNT. Good spot to research starting in my opinion. Can be had around $600

How do you like it compared to the ep5? Sounds like it’s similarly speced asides from reticle. Is the eye box tight like I’ve heard the ep5 is?

I sold a EP5 5-25 gen 1. I haven’t spent enough time with it to voice a true opinion. I can tell you it’s way ahead of the Gen 1 EP5 I sold off. But anyone whose looked through both can say the same

Some reps and users here say the glass is better on the DNT vs the newer gen Arkens. I prefer the reticle on the DNT as it’s closer to my Mil XT NF reticle

Now if you’re comparing a Arken 7-35 to it which is more of a fair comparison I’d assume they’d be very close. Knurling of turrets and glass seem to favor the DNT. But it’s new and only time will tell if it sticks around

Well I could only agree with part of these statements. These guys do shoot an awful lot more than I do and can attest that they are not constantly messing with equipment but there are others that do. I won't bad mouth these fellows nor will I jinx myself as we encourage more to get involved. I don't shoot that much as I wished but if I do my stages right I am in upper scoring aggregate but always behind these top NRL national shooters. These younger guys are pushing their selves into the upper limit so it's fun to watch them.

Got my b14r in from europtic. Been sick and traveling for work so haven’t got to shoot it yet but excited to get it out maybe later this week. Rings are little high but I had them sitting around.
