Who's got the best Grendel upper out there? AA? Sabre? I Have been looking at this cartridge for a while now, just wanted to hear from guys running them. I know the pros and cons of the round, but it still interests me. I'm looking mostly to shoot medium range with a few forays out far(800~1000yd) just for fun. If I do hunt with it I won't be shooting any further than 200 on med. size game, might stretch it out for the small stuff. I'll be reloading for it as well as running factory stuff when available.

Thank You
Patrick Scott

BTW, I like plain Jane uppers. No need for miles of rail on it, just a spot for a bipod and sling.

No love for the Grendel around here? Sheesh.. Les Baer is top of my list right now, not that anyone seems to care

Re: Best "out of the box" 6.5 Grendel upper??

I'm undecided if I want a Grendel or not. I already have too many ARs; too many other rifles, and reload for TOO MANY different cartridges. I really don't want to add another one to the mix, unless I thin the herd significantly.

I'm concerned about the availability of everything Grendel-related, and the rather marginal performance of the mags that are currently available for it. That's supposedly about to change, with a new manufacturer of mags. I expect that to be announced at SHOT; we'll see.

I have had both of my 6.5 Grendel uppers over a year now. The first one I assemblied myself from parts and the other GA Precision built. Both of them shoot very well.

To answer your question, I am sure that either one of the uppers you listed should do well. I also have seen that Hornday will be making brass and ammo for this caliber. Good luck with your choice.

AA makes a fine product but the wait time can be ridiculous. My Satern barreled GDMR was about 9 months but will shoot .5 and less. I'd suggest the GAP, Baer, and higher end AA products would serve you well or even building it yourself concentrating on the barrel quality.

I haven't been following the wait times lately but if your going to be hunting with it this year, getting it now is a pretty good idea. You'll probably spend awhile waiting for the item and then doing proper load development. Good idea to get your ammo components as well as a few hundred factory rounds. I had mine months in advance of actually getting the rifle.

If this gun is primarily a hunting gun, almost any upper will work. Stretching it out to 1000 will be the test. Mine keeps up just fine even at distance. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the info guys. Wait times are ok. I have other rifles to shoot and hunt with. I do plan on reloading for it. I'll be waiting til after SHOT before I pull the trigger on anything.
