British decide to throw out the Magna Carta and return to serfdom

Lots of direct for freight dawgs in the middle of the night. Never had a cruise clearance in a Boeing, eh? Also, check your lat longs.
No, but I’ve had plenty of direct at FL450. Try that in your Boeing. You still have to fly the departure/arrival.

Texas is so cute

Well, San Antonio isn’t South of Houston, just West. But it doesn’t matter. The drive is further from El Paso to Los Angeles than Houston to El Paso. And as far as “air miles”, no flight is like that. There are plenty of “freeways” that the airplanes have to navigate.
Looks south to me, esp. if you compare it to going through Austin, but as the man suggests, check your latitudes.

Well, I’ve flown this route, HOU-SAT, several hundred times so maybe that’s why I think it is West. Of course, when you are IFR, the route isn’t going to be straight all the time. The route would go over IDU (Industry VOR) and angle a few degrees North of this great circle route, pick up the arrival into SAT and turn a few degrees South West towards SAT. The route details have changed up a little over the years, but still pretty much the same foot print. Check the segment headings below. If you are driving I-10 in the late afternoon, the sun will be in your face most anytime of the year. Not exactly West, but close enough. But I think you guys are splitting hairs a little too much. Corpus Christi is “South” of Houston.
