It wasnt a group of townspeople that all shot him. They gathered at the passenger side of the truck next to the brainwashed girl/wife and what I remember was a lone gunmen came from a truck across the street from behind on driver's side and shot McElroy with a shotgun. That may explain the 'multiple gunshot wounds.'
Another account at the time said the shooter wasn't from there and used an over/under. The wife also said McElroy had a metal plate in his head because I remember us laughing and saying 'Not anymore he doesn't.'

I've never driven with any drinking having happened prior and I know lots of folks that have never done any driving when drinking had been involved prior either.
Ten years ago I would have agreed with this. Remember we now have "judges" that haven't spent a single day in law school, who have the ability to put someone in jail with "the right to a speedy trial" being quite a bit away. Case in point, elderly Arizona land-owner/farmer who foired a warning shot, later found a dead person on his property and called authorities, and was put in jail by one of these judges "elected" by Soros support, with zero legal background.

A roadside sobriety test back then was a cop pulling everyone out of the vehicle and asking who was the least drunk and telling them to drive.

In the ‘70’s, he had gotten pulled over leaving the bar, the cop had dad tell him dad’s address, then make dad follow him home. Told dad to stay put, or you’re going to jail.

There is story from county next us about a guy that got lynched back in the day. The feds showed up tp take custody of him but he was already dead. They wanted the to know who was responsible. The sheriff told them a lynch mob consisting of red headed bearded men, all at least 6 foot 5 inches, and we don't have anyone around here who fits that description. So they weren't from around here.

There is wide range of what a DUI is. Dude driving around town at 30mph at .08 is not presenting the same danger as someone going 80 on the interstate in 8 lanes of traffic at .2. The vast majority of fatalities caused by alcohol are well above .08.
There are definitely people not getting enough time, some gang bangers shot an uber driver in the head from the back seat so they wouldn't have to pay for their 20 dollar ride. To of them got 20 years a piece. Uber driver is dead. One of them got 40 years for fighting the charges. He was all pissed off crying about how they took his entire life. Not one word about the driver, his family, or kids.

The “goodness” of that shoot looks like it will depend on the state/judge/jury and the quality of his defense. Seven shots with the last four or five while running away? Don’t love it.

In many states/situations peasants can only "legally" shoot at "fleeing" felons only under certain conditions when property loss is involved or when the felon poses a clear and imminent threat like a guy with an evil black machete who is running from you because you have a gun but still taking swipes at people in the mall ... in other states not at all

On the flip side, you do not have to answer questions. But do remember this. If the cop asks you if you had anything to drink tonight and you say anything other than "no," it is now a DUI stop. You do not have to perform sobriety tests and those are not actually about physical agility. They are about watching your eyes and hearing your speech. Make them get a warrant for blood. Realize that you are getting arrested and going to jail. But, if you keep your mouth shut, you may not be convicted. Especially if the BAC test shows below the legal limit.
You do not have to tell the police about past events, such as any drinking prior to the stop. You don't have to say where you were. In fact, only identify yourself with license and insurance and then "STFU."
Is it unfair? That's academic. Don't drink and then drive. Period. Have we all done it? Probably. Does not make it right or excusable. We have ideals to hold to and that separates us from animals.

Cops do not get bonuses or cash payments for DUI arrests. Whoever told you that is hugely mistaken.
Some cops get salary, some get hourly. So, in my state, overtime is anything over 40 hours in a week. But that is not a bonus. That is pay for taking care of public danger who could have killed me or one of my friends or family when he could be home with his or her family.
Salary can be up to 60 hours a week.
The DUI laws are there to protect people and comparing to China is, IMO, a false equivalency in this matter. It is the sign of a weak argument.
