Cheaper than Dirt - Which is worse...you decide

Re: Cheaper than Dirt - Which is worse...you decide

They did the same thing after the 2008 elections, and they made a ton of sales. It doesn't surprise me that they're doing it again.

Re: Cheaper than Dirt - Which is worse...you decide

Both are equally @#$%ed up, however...the edge clearly goes to the politicians given the scope of their depravity in continuing to eviscerate individual, constitutionally protected freedoms by any means available including but not limited to the exploitation of a national tragedy involving children/innocents. Besides, not every responsible gun-owner/collector/competitor will be impacted by the CTD debauchery, but we all may feel the painful sting from the politicians if they have their way!

Re: Cheaper than Dirt - Which is worse...you decide

I am a firm believer that they can charge anything that they want. That is a free market. Nobody is forced to buy. Who is getting screwed anyway?

I also believe that if you decide never to shop there again because of this, that is fine too. Also a free market.

I wish I had 50 p-mags or a couple of AR's to sell. I'd sell them for as much as I could get for them.

They certainly aren't forcing anyone to buy them, and Cheaper Than Dirt may have had to pay $100 apiece just to have some to sell.

Don't forget Lock Stock and Barrel went out of business during the last craze because they could not get any inventory in to sell. If they had charged more, they might have been able to bridge the gap.

Re: Cheaper than Dirt - Which is worse...you decide

After living in Florida for 10 years and having to cope with multiple big hurricanes I can say that price gouging can be tragic. Stores would sell gallons of water for 3x the price or generators or plywood for 5x. That being said, those were necessary, life-saving supplies. Used AR mags... not so much. In this case these are luxury items and if you want them, you'll pay for them.

Re: Cheaper than Dirt - Which is worse...you decide

If a hurricane hits and you triple the price for water you are profiteering off someone elses misery and possibly endangering their safety just to make a few bucks. That is unforgivable in my opinion.

However the current market on AR stuff that may soon be banned, that is not a live safing necessity and is purely driven by supply and demand. IF mags get limited to 10 rounds again, they can't replace the stock they have and choose to make their money now. A sound business decision, although to the consumer who wants the old price it may be tough to swallow.

There are so many other vendors out there with a more reasonable price, I wouldn't let one get under my skin, just take your business elsewhere. And it isn't just dealers, a lot of individuals are turning mags they bought at $14 for obscene profits too...

If nobody bought them at that price, they wouldn't sell them at that price, this one we bring on ourselves.

Re: Cheaper than Dirt - Which is worse...you decide

It has been pointed out many times on this board, those that are charging WAY over the "normal" price are just being good free market operators, no one should be upset. Some have even pointed out that some stores may have trouble finding new stock in the future, therefore: it is reasonable to charge 10 times the going rate, and we all should be happy about it. Some of the real experts on this board have even pointed out, some gun mfgs, may be paying overtime, and are not making as much money per gun as they have been, the only reason they are making a little extra is due to volume.

Re: Cheaper than Dirt - Which is worse...you decide

I don't fault CTD at all, but I also don't spend my money there, on the other hand O..............................................................................!

Re: Cheaper than Dirt - Which is worse...you decide

Fro some people they would rather pay an over priced amount for a product than wait on back order for a product that they might not ever be able to buy again. So I see where CTD has a place in the market but you will not see me paying more than I need to for a product!

Re: Cheaper than Dirt - Which is worse...you decide

CTD is WAY out of bounds. They are blatant ripoffs & will nevr ever get my business ever again. Period.

Cry a river, build a bridge then get the hell over it.

Purchase the items. Don't purchase the items. Continually whining about the price so-and-so has on a magazine isn't solving anything. As J York stated above, we as the gun owning community are to blame for this. If noboody purchased them they wouldn't be priced the way they are.

Re: Cheaper than Dirt - Which is worse...you decide

The "our low price" part right before saying the mag is 99 bucks is just comical.

I hope the outdoor channel drops all their ads at some point in the near future...

Re: Cheaper than Dirt - Which is worse...you decide

Your right nobody is holding a gun to your head to buy their stuff. But that doesn't mean that when and if the market cools off that I would ever buy anything from them again. I will continue to support the companies that operated in a fair way. By the way I bought a small AR part from Rainer the site said to expect delays because of heavy orders. The part was shipped the same day. And I did not have to pay an inflated price.

Re: Cheaper than Dirt - Which is worse...you decide

Cheaper than dirt did the same price gouging in 2008.
Today (1) box of federal xm193 is over $30.00!

sheeple will.

let em.

Im stocked with thousands of 556, been buying it cheap and stacking it deep for years.

Re: Cheaper than Dirt - Which is worse...you decide

I think there is an argument to be made that the concept of free market does not necessarily exclude the concepts of fairness and exploitation. I dont think it is a simple black and white argument as some here suggest. Where exactly the balance lies I'm not certain, but to accept some of the comments posted here one would think that "values" have absolutely no role in establishing what price a pmag or AR for instance should be sold for. I worry, however, when I hear such arguments reduced down to a level where values and principles have no place. If nothing else history has taught us many lessons of the dangers teasing out what are the most important components of what we as a nation and hopefully at a personal level define how we distinguish ourselves from other countries/societies. Unless, of course, we no longer feel such principles/values are important to how we treat one another. It just seems that somewhere in the not so distant past we have accepted a new definition of "doing business" that pardons us from including any principle-based references in how we conduct the exchange of goods and services within this country? And, personally, i do not think that is a good thing.
