I got my 7prc coup de grace put together. My 22 creed build is giving me fits with the magazine though! AW mags are nowhere to be found. I am fine hacking on a mag if anyone has any suggestions of where material should be removed.
Has anyone found bottom metal which will work with the CDG long action and a Manners stock?
Everything I see in this thread seems to be in chassis which come with their own bottom metal.
So far I have tried to make Hawkins Hunter and bdl bottom metal work, both unsuccessfully.
My last hope is M-5 DBM bottom metal from Hawkins or others, but I would like to know that will work before proceeding.

The Hawkins Hunter uses those proprietary mags so that’s probably your issue. I use the APA RTG in my AG composites and my brother uses the Stocky’s in his McMillan and they both work fine.

I'm using a CDG LA chambered for 300 PRC in an MDT ACC chassis and if I load the cartridge to mag length it won't feed. The nose of the bullet hits the bottom of the action so it can't rise up into the action to feed. An earlier poster in this thread posted pictures clearly showing the issue. I'm loading longer than mag length now so I single feed anyway so not an issue for now.I am having zero issue with this using a full CiP length MDT mag in an MDT chassis with my CDG LA. Maybe later today I’ll get a picture.
It’s not a chassis issue. Rounds can slide forward in the magazine and slip under the feed ramp of the action causing a malfunction. The feed ramp needs to be notched in order to load long in CIP length magazines and for reliability even when loading shorter. When you get a chance you can look at yours and see the problem.I did see the earlier picture though I didn’t remember which chassis etc. was involved. I do not doubt that the issue exists.

Thank you for figuring this out! I suspected it was something along those lines. It appears there is room to move the magazine back in relation to the chassis and still have it feed correctly. If I recall correctly when I used the Hornady factory 300 PRC 225 gr match ammo to break in the barrel it fed from a magazine just fine, but was a good bit shorter than full mag length. If the cartridges had shifted forward in the magazine they would have had the same feeding issue as my magazine length handloads.Hi Hemi!
Yep, same cartridge but in a Cadex Lite Competition chassis and having the same problem with the cartridge loaded to the full length of the CIP magazine (shorter works fine). I think I may have been the first to notice this problem back in November '23 and mentioned in post #5,982.
I can't even get the magazine to correctly latch in place without doing some mods to the mag. I took some measurements of the distance between the rear surface of the recoil lug and the leading edge of the magazine cutout from the CDG action and compared them to a couple Rem 700 LA actions and the dimensions checked out almost identically (1.580") plus/minus a couple thousands of an inch. I did the same thing with my buddy's ARC Mausingfield LA receiver and they checked out the same too. His Mausingfield LA worked great in a KRG Whiskey 3 chassis (which he no longer has) and is currently working perfectly in a ARC Xylo chassis. I swapped my CDG LA into his Xylo chassis and the CDG fed flawlessly with my CIP length PRC rounds loaded in my magazine. We put his Mausingfield LA into my Cadex chassis and it encountered the same problem as my CDG LA. I then removed my CDG barreled action from the chassis and simply held the CIP magazine up against the receiver where I thought it should be located and was able to very easily cycle my CIP length rounds from the magazine. So, that proved that the CDG was definitely cut to feed the CIP length cartridges just fine.
Our first thought was that the problem was with the chassis. For the Cadex chassis, there is a removable/replaceable polymer "sleeve" that fits in the magazine well and is machined specifically to whichever magazine is expected to be run in the chassis (e.g. SA, LA, CIP, etc...). All I needed to do, I thought, was to simply get a "blank" sleeve to modify or make a new sleeve that positions the magazine rearward about 0.060" - 0.070" in order for the bullet to clear the feed lip and get the magazine to match up with the receiver correctly. I spoke with Jamie from Cadex about it and he did some digging. I asked Jamie to measure the same dimension that I measured on the CDG LA and Rem 700s of his company's CIP LA receiver as a comparison. Unfortunately, I never did receive the measurement, but Jamie did discuss the issue I was having with the CDG with another chassis vendor while he was at Shot Show this past year. The vendor confirmed they are also seeing the same issue with their chassis. One thing Jamie and the other vendor agreed on is that the position of the magazine well on the CDG didn't seem right. They believed their chassis were correct and that the problem is with the ARC LA receivers since other CIP-cut LA receivers functioned just fine.
Jamie contacted ARC and discussed the problem with his company's chassis and the LA CDG receiver. Apparently, they found out that when ARC designed their CIP LA receivers, they maintained the distance between the rear surface of the recoil lug to the leading edge of the magazine cutout. My guess is that this decision was to maintain the structural integrity of the receiver in the area where a case head separation would most affect the receiver. This meant that in order to use the CIP length magazines, the magazine well cutout needed to move rearwards on the receiver. Unfortunately, it appears that other vendors decided to maintain the location of the rear of the magazine well cutout and simply extend the front of the cutout forward towards the recoil lug. This, I (we) believe, is where the problem actually stems from. Of course, one solution could be to have a cutout machined into the leading edge of the CDG receiver magazine feed ramp for the long bullet to pass through, but I'm not sure if that would cause feed issues with other, non-CIP cartridges if the caliber/cartridge was changed. That option doesn't address the problem I was/am having getting a magazine to latch in the chassis, though, without modifying every magazine I use with the rifle. That's something only ARC could verify for certain. Jamie said that ARC was going to make some sort of "announcement" about the problem/resolution but I haven't seen or heard anything about it since I last spoke to Jamie a few weeks ago.

Yep, makes perfect sense with the factory ammo, which is probably only loaded to 3.65" or so. I'm running a 208g Berger LRHT bullet with a coal of around 3.75" and can only single feed it. I only bang steel with the rifle, so I can live with it but I really want to be able to feed them from a magazine at some point. I think it's possible to shim the receiver forward in the chassis 0.060" to 0.070" too, but the action screw holes in the chassis would need to be elongated to do that. I think there are a couple things that can be done to help fix the problem, but I'm waiting to see what ARC decides before I do anything.Thank you for figuring this out! Very possible.Seeing as Cadex and MDT are both Canadian and both are having the issue I’m going to say they were the other chassis company they talked to.
Did you mean SA/Short action?Just tested my LA CDG in a flat breech 223 with a longer 2.45” 75gr ELD round, feeds alright but sometimes hangs up if you run it slow. The general consensus was correct, run it fast and intentionally and it will feed fine. Not gonna say it’s 100% reliable because even time tested platforms have issues sometimes, but ymmv. Have a short video clip but not able to post it

The one I have in it is just a single shot sled. That’s the one big hiccup with a setup like this, no magazines currently. I found that AI makes a long action .308 mag with a spacer so I’m curious if the feedlips could be adjusted to hold 223Where did you get or how did you make LA 223 mags?
