Another Amish self-deletes in Austin , seems a 35 yr old Amish man was acting erratic in a Circle K throwing things then steals a truck from a customer at the gas pumps, but only makes it about 1/2 mile before turning the wrong way into oncoming traffic and hits head on into multiple vehicles, cops take him into custody but he dies in route to hospital, such a shame , another promising Amish life lost ,hahahahaha.

Tried to attach a link but failed , guys name was Jermaine Sims.

Died at the hospital counts as died in police custody?

News reader has a bit of Attitudy Judy going on. They should look into it, I'll bet there's more than a few people who died at the hospital around that time! (cue the dramatic music)

Lots of innocent victims, it sucks for them though.

Finished med school... On his way home after completing brain surgery stopped at the Circle K for a soda pop. Upon leaving Circle K was forced into a truck by two white men wearing MAGA hats and knocked unconscious. Truck was then driven by remote control by the two MAGA men into oncoming traffic where multiple vehicles were hit head on.

saw that many times. if some dork gets trashed while committing a crime, they get sent to the hospital. they do not get arrested until they are discharged from all medical care. then, the jurisdiction is not responsible for their bill. the hospital eats it of course. if they are under arrest and need or develop the need for medical care, then the jurisdiction is responsible for the $. use of & presence of police guards varies depending.

Never seen it go down that way, not saying it doesn't happen. We always arrested them at the scene. In most states it starts a chain of events like establishing he’s not free to leave, chemical tests and related warrants, etc.

The article sucks, they should have said “arrested” instead of detained. He was in custody at the time he died.

From the article:
“Because Sims died after being detained by APD officers, the incident is being investigated as an in-custody death”

Standard stuff based on the info we have.

interesting. your experience is dif from mine obviously. i was in FL and the last time i dealt with this kind of thing directly was in 70s but did see it several times back then.
Something I didn't mention, which probably wouldn't have been as much of an issue in the 70’s, is liability. If anything goes down between the med staff and douchbag, when he reasonably should have been restrained or accompanied by an officer, the lawsuit settlement checks will be epic. “We didnt want to pay his medical bill’s” would be a crazy admission of negligence.

Yeah, thats a shame.

Now back to the truck he stole, what kind was it, was it totalled? Were the people he ran into injured?

Did the guy who owned the truck have to pay for the gas?
