There is a cure to pro sports salaries without caps. Make it all pay-per-view. I don't watch any pro sports, so why should some of the money I spend on damn near everything go to them? I buy a truck - every auto mfg advertises during sports games. Some of that is making it's way back to players. They are NOT making it off ticket prices.

Make it pay-per-view and what ever people spend on tickets. Then we'll find out exactly how much they are worth using open market supply/demand. I bet it is a lot less then the millions they make now.


On everything else - I agree with you guys. I'm not sure how we change course from where we are now. But I too hope it is not too late.

Sled, I believe that the best things we can do are also the simplest things.
First, If we take personal responsibility for our actions, and hold those around us personally responsible for their actions, that is the first step.
Second, if you have kids, step up and be a real Parent.
Third, take an active role in the education system if your kids are in it, and even if you don't have kids, you pay taxes to support your local school. In a way, the childless/ones whose kids are grown, have more at stake in the education system, because you are paying for something you aren't getting benefit from.
Fourth, get involved in politics at the local level, and very involved in the primary process for state and federal elections. We can't afford to allow those with money to dictate to us who our candidates are. I know this is a tall order, but with full engagement, it can be influenced and eventually changed. Grass roots is where it is at.
It will be a long and painful fight, but I believe it's worth it.
I am not saying any poster on this thread hasn't done their part in any of these things, merely encouraging everyone not to give up hope. Remember, "A Journey of 1000 Miles begins with the First STEP."

Editor’s note- This is not about politics, this is about how far our country has lost it’s moral compass.

Even though I’m not even in the Country the climate over the past few years, yes I said years, has been making me sick. I have felt this for a while but the recent anti gun retardation kinda just boiled it over. You know what makes me sick……….

It makes me sick that professional sports players are making millions upon millions of dollars playing a FUCKING SPORT while police officers, firefighters, teachers, Soldiers, factory workers are lucky to pull in 40k. How bout Capping ALL pro sports salaries to say 200-250k a year, this by the vast majority of Americans is a very healthy income. This would do a few things, one being if the current players didn’t like it, quit. It would keep all players equal and bring back a love of the game instead of love of fame and endorsements, this in my opinion is why college sports are so much more raw and true. It’s a shame that a guy playing GOLF can be a billionaire while a disabled vet cant find a job flipping burgers.

It makes me sick at how soft our country has become.

It makes me sick how a piece of shit murderer or rapist can get three hot meals, a college education, a roof, a hot shower, free clothes, free cable TV, vocational training, earn a form of income all while the aforementioned 40k a year busting his ass for his family and community factory worker or firefighter pays for it with their taxes. The death penalty should be enforced, swiftly and with extreme vigor.

It makes me sick the young Xbox generation coming up right now. They get a task to complete and instead of implanting a plan to accomplish it they start with bitching and wanting to know “why”, we are breeding mindless sheep that could tell you every map on call of duty but couldn’t tell you who signed the declaration of independence, fucking sick.

I have an idea though this country would never allow it, why not do as the majority of countries and have a mandatory 2 year service obligation from every American male from 18-20 years old? This would do A LOT of things. For one it would make a lot of snot nosed spoiled kids grow the fuck up, it would solve all our recruiting issues since a good portion would see military life isn’t that bad a lifetstyle and would choose to stay. It would give kids from dirt poor families and the hood a chance to get out of where they come instead of becoming gang bangers sucking the life out of society. It would at a minimum let future senate, congress, politicians at least have a rough idea what the military does and how they do it.

Know what makes me sick, FACEBOOK. Now I get how it’s a useful tool even though I choose not to be apart of it but it’s shit like facebook that is making our youths socially retarded. The next time your on a subway, at the mall, at a café take a look around and count how many faces are plastered to their phones. I was at my 6 year old son’s taekwando practice the other day watchin him and I look around the bleachers and every single parent there were playing on their phones, and we wonder why our younger generations are lacking. This was a study I found about Facebook-

I'm going on 23 years old. My views on things in the world, nationally and locally, often don't line up with what the rest of people my age (least that I know) seem to think. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I go out of my way less to express myself when the opportunity arises in discussions.

Unfortunately they wouldn't think for a second anything that I would say crosses my mind about certain topics, and not saying anything lessens the potential for their view to broaden. Not change, but to consider another aspect.

Fortunately, I won't give myself a migraine explaining things to them trying to get them to accept that having a view not in any way similar to their own...because they often will not accept the possibility that there is more than one way to see things out there. Personally, I find more people my age having tunnel vision if you will, a bubble, when it comes to perspectives on current events. More often than not, for instance, in the scheme of politics, it is a misinformed and cherry-picked argument. They willingly choose not to (should they be privy to other perspectives to begin with) even consider anything else. Current international events with any relevance and similarity to past history? Mostly unaware. Discussions of, again mostly misinformed and/or cherry-picked.

I cannot express how often I get on Facebook lately (which I use almost strictly as a communication tool, kind of like email...that's how I see it) and think how useless so many other people my age are. Literally I think all they do is go out and get smashed with their friends and take pictures to put on there. Expressing my views on everything going on lately in this country (not just regarding the Second Amendment, but topics similar to these) has proven to be a surefire way to weed out who is actually kind of worth a shit and keeping tabs on and talking with. Don't like it? Delete...you don't have to read what I type, and if you do and go out of your way to say something about you get sick of seeing the kind of stuff I say, make your life easier and just don't read it to begin with, or delete me...that simple.

Bitching about having to go to work and barely actually do anything? Normal shit. Can work suck sometimes? Yeah...having to work a 12 hour day isn't the norm for me given the kind of job it is, but I had to this weekend...whatever, it's part of the job sometimes, kinda like having to work upwards of 38-39 hours a week and be considered 'Part Time'...when I go to work, I don't usually go to have fun, I go to work to make money and do a job...thankfully most people there that I work directly with are cool and bust their asses too...some people just don't understand working sometimes actually involves having to physically or mentally exert yourself and fucking do something to earn your keep or your money...

Bottom line, the majority of my generation sucks. And peer pressure and influence is a strong thing even past the elementary/middle/high school stages as I've come to see.

For this I apologize. Kind of. I really don't want to claim that majority in the first place to apologize for...

But that being said, for every handful of lazy and comparatively 'Low Information' individuals out there my age that I know, I know at least one or two that understand the concept of working and surviving and that life will revolve around more than just Facebook or Xbox at some point. These individuals have broader views and a deeper understanding of the society we live in and how it is different from time past.

Then, they gave all they had to make sure their kids didn't need to feel hardship, like the Great Depression, etc. You don't get very many valuable life lessons by being sheltered from hard-ship. They voted in FDR 4 times, and he started the modern Welfare Programs and Ponzi Schemes like SSI. Then, they voted in LBJ and his ilk, who started the "Great Society." This possibly well intentioned legislation has given rise to the zero-liability voter who, along with a few nut jobs, have found that they can form a majority when it comes time to vote----look at the current political landscape. As many have said earlier in this thread, "IT ALL STARTS WITH PARENTING---or the lack thereof."

I can't recall the comedian who did this bit but back around the time Brokaw's smarmy, ass kissing, paean to the seniors who supported Clinton, part of his act was to riff on the baloney about how the "Greatest Generation" never complained..."They never stopped complaining!" "Your Hair's too long, that music is too loud, you can't paint your house that color, etc., etc.

It was a good bit. Not to take anything away from those who fought the war and endured the aftermath, but they were people and they became a demographic that has had an enormous and lasting impact on our society. We don't don't speak German or Russian here thanks to them. We also equate minor inconveniences to great civil wrongs now as well. And this is due to the enabling of softness created by the politics placed by that same generation and furthered by their children and grandchildren.

I would like to add my voice to those that have lived long enough to see for themselves the wrong direction(s) our nation has taken, in almost every regard. Many have talked about the moral decline, but do not elaborate, is it againt the boards rules? I could go into a list of those things that I believe are disgusting/lack all moral standards/were criminal at one time, but are now OKAY, and in fact will have a whole group of "ready to burn your house down" if you don't agree types ready to jump if you mention them at all. We've seen better days.

It’s sad as shit that I as a white male is that demograph that can’t say a fucking thing without being criticisized or called racist when In my lifetime the most racism I’ve personally experienced has been against white folks, openly and that’s treated as OK.

It’s sick when a baby can be murdered in it’s mothers arms by two thugs of one ethnicity and it’s on the news for 15 seconds while a thug gets shot of same ethnicity and it’s been plastered on the media and national news for months.

Ever stop and wonder why a stereotype exists? It exists because to some maybe miniscule amount its true.

Did ya’ll know that there is a recent trend that the term “African American” is now a racist term because they feel like they are Americans and not from Africa? (which is how I’ve looked at it for years).

Why can we have a BET network and that’s ok but WET would be racist? What month is White history month?

This country is so fucking worried about hurting someone’s feelings that some folks cant even do their job efficiently. Take for example the State of Florida who for a period of time authorized type-casting for highway patrol along certain highway routes, and guess what, it worked and they caught 10 times the amount of illegal drugs being transported along those highways as before the type-casting. But what happens, the ethnic group cried and thought it was illegal, as far as I understand they shut that down.

It’s sickening when a certain president of a certain Country is a certain race and at a sermon he attends the preacher speaks quite blatant racist comments and it’s perfectly fine with the world because it’s not racist towards his ethnicity, WTF!!! Whats even more sick is the media’s infatuation with this particular dictator that they defend these actions, read this gem (which FYI was the story I heard this morning I was referring to above.)

When you have teenagers, that you have known for most of their life, ask you for advice it is rewarding. Yes it may cost you some time and money but nothing worth having is free.

Colorado, in the recent wave of gun law BULLSHIT, almost passed a law to make you liable for a weapon if you sold it...wait, what?? So if I sell a rifle to someone, who shows valid instate license, or if a gunshop/manufacturer/etc sells a gun to someone, and they commit a crime with it, the law can now come after me/seller/manufacturer???
I realize the law didnt pass, but its the mentality that someone can actually think up this BS in the first place that drives me up a wall like nothing else. Did your parents never beat your ass when you spilt the milk?? cause you needed it.

Last point on the parenting, last night I was getting food for my boys 1 year old birthday party (which is tomor, my how the time flies) and I see a lady and a 12yr old ish kid come out of store. The lady was pushing a cart fully loaded with grub. I think odd, that how when I was a kid I enjoyed pushing the cart for my mom, but whatev, I continue loading my truck. As I finish I look over, and the kid got into his truck and immediately looked on his phone as his mom loaded the grocer cart of food into the vehicle. I got so sick I almost threw up. Really?? you cant help unload the food??? wow, I wanted to say something and almost did but was afraid the kid maybe was handicaped, but wow I couldnt believe it. Whats this kid gonna do when he moves out? if he ever does? why does this parent even allow this?? times are changing, and Im not that old (28). And NO im not going to sit back and enjoy the ride like some mentioned, I plan to do my part, if by nothing else than parenting my kids to be men and act like a one.

Rant over. I have a million other examples, but its opening day baseball and im going to enjoy the great american past time, and watch over paid athletes distract me from the fatalistic views of this country and the entitleistic pigs running it.

There's a lot of good stuff here. I always feared the government monitoring our lives against our will, but now they don't have to do that because most people volunteer that info on Facebook. I'm not arrogant enough to think that the whole world wants to know every time I go to the grocery store, what I'm wearing today, etc. and furthermore I don't care to know those things about other people.

As for pro sports, I think we could lower their salaries if we didn't by their tickets, merchandise, etc. I give them the same treatment I give Hollywood. I refuse to give them money so they can use it against people like us by campaign donations or spreading propaganda. Pro sports is hardly worth watching these days because of the laziness, attitudes, & selfish play. My son will not grow up thinking Kobe Bryant or tiger woods is a hero, Chris Kyle is a hero.

They are 100% collecting now to monitor something you also need to be able to filter/search/categorize and use that info for whatever purpose you want.

Considering stuff they're building in Utah and what technology enables one has to assume that pretty much everything can be intercepted. Considering how .govs function i also believe that what might be collected is not so effectively processed and used as they would like to make others believe ("make your enemy believe you're strong when you're not and vice versa" - and we can all agree our governments try really hard to picture themselves as omnipotent).


But look at it this way you wan't something to say to the "some unknown nerdy NSA analyst in some dark basement" you just type it somewhere public (like this forum) and good bet is he will read it especially if you put indexing keywords in the text.

Also think about those social networks&Co. If i were running CIA/whatever agency which gathers intel why bother snooping all over the stinking world you simply start a company called google, yahoo or whatever provide people with free emails, get companies to use "cloud" solutions and voila instant deposits of freshly baked bytes from all over the planet. Hell facebook even indexes information so stupid people replace xy clerks needed for data sorting and entry. Hire a programer or two for writing data mining queries and you instantly and in real time (almost) monitor billions of people...

I get up at 0330-0400 most every day. Grandfather always said one day you will never see a sunrise ever again, don't miss any of them between now and then. Working or playing as it happens is a reward to me.
Ya I might be old (66 in Sept) but as 2, 20 somethings and 3, 30 somethings found out this past weekend, the old man has a trick or three left, when allowed to freelance. Speed does not always equate to a completed task.
