Does brass headstamp determine annealing times?

I'm finally going to begin annealing - purchased some 750 and 450 tempilaq, have a drill, burner and whatever else I'm going to need. So, the question is: I realize my annealing times are set by the caliber according to the tempilaq indicators, but do I need to take it a step further and anneal different headstamps different times? For instance, I have 308 range pickups, LC, Rem, Hornady, Lapua, etc - do I need to establish a diff time, using the tempilaq, by headstamp or once I find a time use it on all brass? Thanks for the help. Anything else I should know also? Thanks again....

Re: Does brass headstamp determine annealing times?

The composition of the brass will change the theoretical annealing properties, so technically speaking, yes. However, the amount of acceptable error when annealing brass cases is huge, so don't worry about it. Don't overthink annealing.

Re: Does brass headstamp determine annealing times?

annealing doesn't have to be perfect, just consistant from case to case. headstamp means absolutely nothing that matters in this process.

Mugsie,
For what it's worth, virtually every manufacturer in this industry uses an alloy known as 70/30 cartridge brass. There will be some difference from brand to brand as far as microscopic grain structure, purity and things of this nature, but the alloy will vary very little from that standard 70/30 specification.

The guys are right; don't overthink annealing, just don't over do it.

Re: Does brass headstamp determine annealing times?

Thanks guys - as soon as my tempilaq gets here I'll give it a try. I was looking at all the professional annealers on the market but they are mucho denaro! I think I'll stick with the drill and socket and I'll be fine. Thanks for all your help.
