Join the contestIn northeast Oklahoma we have fiber with 1gig speeds. Can stream anything we want pretty much. Only 50 acres at my place but I can shoot out to 300 safely. Land prices are going up though. Lots of folks buying up small tracts to grow weed. Damn shame reallyI'm actively, for real now, looking for an area where I can shoot at least a 100 meters, preferably 250, AND get a usable Internet connection and by usable I mean being able to get Netflix, Amazon Prime streaming, etc. I'm willing to pay to run fiber a rational distance, even an irrational distance. Does such a place exist in the USA? I searched hard in a state I'd love to move to, Tennessee and found nothing. Tennessee has so much going for it, Incredible scenery, bearable tax environment, balanced and not hateful government. Civilization if you're close enough, great entertainment and amusement.
As a retired computer engineer I can tell you that Satellite links such as Hughsnet ain't it. The latency is is incredible and nothing can be done to alleviate it as you can't repeal the laws of physics. That Satellite is some 20,000 plus miles away in an equatorial orbit and no amount of technology is going to change that short of Star-Trek Sub-Space.
Let me know if you live in such a place. Maybe you need a neighbor that can you can share reloading recipes with and fix your motorcycles and computers/network?
Good god what a beautiful view. I could be happy looking up and seeing that out my patio doors. Every time I see something like that I always remember a saying....nobody ever said on their death bed "God, I wish I'd spent more time at the office".
Yep, things are changing somewhat. But NE Oklahoma is one of the better kept secrets... Ssh!!!In northeast Oklahoma we have fiber with 1gig speeds. Can stream anything we want pretty much. I share that dream but have had the same result you had when pitching it to my wifeI was watching a YouTube channel, I think it was called the Military Arms Channel. What he was shooting isn't important, where he was shooting I thought was just a dream setup. It looked like he had a shooting bench inside a walkout basement, at least that's my best guess. It appeared he had a bench up against a window and was able to shoot from his air-conditioned and heated room, year round.
I can only imagine how much it would speed up my load development if I was able to do that. It would be absolutely incredible to have my equipment on one side of a walk out basement and be able to just push off and roll my wheelie chair to the other side of the room and shoot out the window at a 100 meter target. It would be an absolute fantasy to be able to just go back and forth like that, no matter what time of year, no matter how cold, no matter how hot, rain or snow. No driving 17 miles, packing up gear for every possible scenario, no cease fires, no range officers, no worrying who's shooting next to you or waiting in line.
I'm retired now and have tried to get my wife to move into an area where I could duplicate exactly the above but no luck. she insists on civilization. As a confirmed curmudgeon I see no advantage to civilization.
Is anyone here so blessed with something like I've described?
Jesus.... i bet you save soooo much ammo lol.... just trying to look for an upsidei'm sooo jelly, and 70+ miles from the outdoor range.
The starlink network is in LEO, not GEO, so two orders of magnitude different. This has a major effect on latency, take a look at current user ping times, you'll be surprised!I'm actively, for real now, looking for an area where I can shoot at least a 100 meters, preferably 250, AND get a usable Internet connection and by usable I mean being able to get Netflix, Amazon Prime streaming, etc. I'm willing to pay to run fiber a rational distance, even an irrational distance. prolly why i have shot mostly pistol for decades, since that is only 15 minutes awayJesus.... i bet you save soooo much ammo lol.... just trying to look for an upside
Same dream and now becoming reality. Recently purchased land that backs to 20k acres BLM/State Land. Built shooting shed (pic below) while cabin is being built . Cabin will have walkout basement facing same direction. Currently have steel out to 1200. Will get steel out to mile plus after snow melts. Is anyone here so blessed with something like I've described?
I too shot mostly pistol over the years lol. I was training with my ar 10 the other day doing mag change drills. 1 round loaded in ar with empty mag, 1 round loaded in beretta with empty mag. I noticed that it was like ramping in the movies, i would fire, transition and i would speed up, reload, reload, repeat. It really showed me where i needed some work lol.prolly why i have shot mostly pistol for decades, since that is only 15 minutes away![]()

It is blessing, and yes load development is a lot easier.I was watching a YouTube channel, I think it was called the Military Arms Channel. That keeps the libtards away, I imagine.Very remote, all forested so internet and cell coverage sucks at best, usually have to drive several miles for reception. Three TV channels is all.
It looks like an airfield, but it's actually a habitat designed to hold upland birds for walk-up hunting with dogs. Crops weren't up yet. You will see another walk-up area to the right. We suspend long-range shooting when anyone is downrange obviously. We have a 500-yard range in another location for those occasions. 2,200 acres dedicated to the shooting sports. Big Hole Mountains of eastern Idaho. Why are you shooting at the airfield?

hilarious!! but hopefully they are KD before you shoot them.I even have UKD four leg moving targets that are also quite tasty hanging around when I am doing load development.
We live in the sticks of Tennessee when we built our house my sons killed more deer from their upstairs bedroom than they did from a deer stand 400 yards then now I can shoot over 600 from the house we love it I'm retired now but it sucked driving 65 miles one way daily when I workedI was watching a YouTube channel, I think it was called the Military Arms Channel. Had a no wind opportunity this morning. Helps with elv adjustments. I just got finished shooting steel at 700, 800, 900 and 1100yds out my shooting shed window(50 yds from the house). But it is heated and air conditioned. Y’all have some beautiful places!

Recon Marine...Now that's what I'm talking about! How's your Internet access? Tell me it's like Gig, just to humor me that someone lives in a perfect world.Had a no wind opportunity this morning. Don’t know how much, but adequate for me. But there is no such thing as perfect, although it looks like a lot of guys on here have perfectly beautiful places! Now that's what I'm talking about!

Only 82 yards at the moment, gunna put a wide gate in that corner and cut a few trees. Should get close to 500 after that.
I’ve shot since I was little, never any formal training though. Precision shooting is something I’ve wanted to get into for a long time but just haven’t. I’m gunna make it a point to hone my skills a little. So I’ll take any advice you’d care to give.82 yards a bit close for 5.56 on steel also please fix that body position. Not trying to sound like a **** just constructive criticism
I have shot rifles since I was very young, stsrted with my Dad's Winchester 74 22 short then his md 70 220 Swift. Rifle shooting was a different world back then. I was 60 when I took my first long range classes, really got into it, and I love it! You can start anytime, get into a good class, you won't be sorry.I’ve shot since I was little, never any formal training though. I barely have time to shoot, let alone take a class. Just not in the cards right now.I have shot rifles since I was very young, stsrted with my Dad's Winchester 74 22 short then his md 70 220 Swift. That's why we don't do it till 60, and it helps that the kids are out of the house by then too so there is more money to throw at it!I barely have time to shoot, let alone take a class. Just not in the cards right now.
I hear ya.I barely have time to shoot, let alone take a class. Just not in the cards right now.
