I’m gonna be dropping some cash soon, say in the next few months, for a dual purpose rifle; it will be used for hunting and range work/maybe some comps.

I am torn between a rifle I have wanted for a long time: an FN SPR A1/A1A, or getting a barreled action off Keystone or similar on the Origin and dropping it in a Bravo.

I know the FN is older and doesn’t seem to get much talk anymore; is it worthwhile to forego it and jump into the Origin?

The FN is an awesome rifle, wish I still had my A1. THAT said, the Origin will be much more versatile as far as aftermarket support and barrel changes. Both will be rock solid platforms to build on.

To be fair, the FN doesn’t really need anything as it comes with a MCM stock, great trigger (CG makes a 2-stage if need be), smooth action, and a 20 MOA rail.

Still kick myself for not snagging one sooner. It’s not the latest and greatest, but I’ve always had a thing for the Model 70’s and such. The Bighorn is CRF as well, and offers a few other features, so it’s a toss-up.

I have an FN PBR 308 as well. Bought off a Member here. Nothing feels like a quality control feed action. Highly unlikely you will regret having one. Good luck.

But, the 308 fits my needs/wants right now.

Both are great options, I would just be honest with yourself about future plans and flexibility.
I would go with the SPR if you're the kind of guy who will be happy with a 308 for long enough to be worth it (or could afford to just buy something else too / could sell likely at a loss).
I would go with an Origin etc if you know that you will soon want to tinker and try out new cartridges / 6mm hotness / next best whatever.
