I finally got this thing to the point that I don't hate it anymore. I'm pretty happy with this first group after getting the scope mounted up and sighted in. 10 shot group is a little less thatn 2.1".

100 yards
seated bench
bag front rest
no rear rest (shouldered)
60 degrees
< 5mph wind
SA M1A Scout
Sage EBR
Elite 4200 1.25-4 (set for 4)

The group is a couple of inches high at 100 yards. I had just zeroed the rifle at 50 yards. The ammo is the AE 168 gr BTHP M1A stuff.

Re: Finally finished my M1A project

When people say these weren't made for optics, they weren't kidding. I was happy with it in it's fiberglass stock and iron sights configuration and it all whent to hell when I tried to put a scope on the thing. I'm happy with 2 moa using a 4x optic, hopefully I'll get a chance to take it hunting next year.

Re: Finally finished my M1A project

I have the Sadlak scope mount and it works great. The one I carried in Iraq had the same mount, and it worked great too. Just use locktite on all the screws. Mine will hold an inch with FGM175's at 100yds.

Nice! Putting optics on the M14 has never been fun.

Sage EBR owners should check into the SAGE Detachable Cantilevered Sight Base (M14DCSB) and the LT608 from LaRue.
Both are rock solid.

The EBR stock is a true military grade item. I had one on an M1A SOCOM 16 and regret selling it. The only DIRECT competition for the SAGE EBR is the Troy MCS chassis system which costs nearly twice as much as the EBR.

Heavy, I'll try to weigh it tomorrow. I'm guessing 13 pounds or so.

The stock is an impressive piece of metal working. It's pretty impressive actually, and rock solid. There's some rattle in the butt stock arms, but the barreled receiver locks in nicely.
