That’s not uncommon. Maintenance, defensible space, and decent materials all contribute to survivability. I can remember doing pre-planning for our Engine’s AO and we’d make notes on our maps and suggestions to the homeowners for both of our benefit. California Mountains are not the place to have a shake roof and siding with trees and grass growing next to and touching the building. Cords of firewood and bales of feed stacked against a house also moved the house down the triage line. Granted, this wasn’t in an urban environment but the basics remain the same.In one bit of good news… it appears that James Woods house did survive. A bit scorched… but ok!
Apparently there are quite a few houses in Palisades that made it, despite the Hiroshima-like images.
