FN Scar, POF, or LWRC?

Re: FN Scar, POF, or LWRC?

I know not one of your choices however researching the same platforms myself came down to the SCAR and GA Precision. The only bad thing about the SCAR is the mags, have fun trying to find them. This may not help with your decision but you might want to give them a look. Dont know how much long range shooting you will be doing but the see if the 260 or 6.5 would have any appeal to you. http://gaprecision.net/ga-precision-2012-custom-rifles/ga-precision-g.a.-precision-gap-10-.html

Re: FN Scar, POF, or LWRC?

Depending what you are doing,

My SCAR was great and offered some advantages, however, there are pos/neg with everything.

I sold my SCAR and now have the LWRC (awesome); it is a beast of burden!

Re: FN Scar, POF, or LWRC?

Really like the repr from what ive seen. Ive currently have a POF, and 2 SCARS. Just want an outsiders prospective to see when my new toy money should go. Usability is a bid deal for me. I definately hear you shen you say there are pros/conz to all of them. I hate the AR platform charging handle, but got over that by locking the boly back, and droping from the side. Just havent found one that is perfect. MAybe i do nede to go GAP

Re: FN Scar, POF, or LWRC?

7.62 platform: OBR, REPR, GAP and LMT (in that order).
5.56 platform: LWRC, Noveske, Larue (take your pick...many proven 5.56 platforms on the market).

Re: FN Scar, POF, or LWRC?

Out of the 3 you have listed I would go REPR. I would also strongly consider a LMT MWS. The LMT is getting a great reputation for accuracy and reliability. Plus it is pretty nice to be able to swap calibers if that interests you.

SCAR. But i talked to a private military contractor that said that although its not common that they do break, when they do it catostophic, and that made me stop and think. Actually why i started this thread

Re: FN Scar, POF, or LWRC?

If you dont like the charging handle of the typical AR platform and you already have the SCAR's I am guessing 16 and 17. I know before I said check out the GA precision but after you last comment I would have to say REPR or JP LRP07. You already have the short to mid range shots covered with what you already have. Heres the link to the JP. http://www.jprifles.com/1.2.5_LRP07.php

Thought of that as well. Dont know a whole lot on starting from scratch. I've heard its better to start with a quality piece, and upgrade the things you dont like. Of course that is just someone elses preference.

I see your plight. Of your choices, I think I would go LWRC or SCAR.

LWRC because they will be shooters right out of the box. They come with Geisseles, accurate barrels, they use a mag that will be the standard of all .308 ARs, and they share a lot of parts in common with regular AR's, so that means you have more choices of replacement parts at a reasonable cost.

SCAR because they are cool, and are very balanced. They are great offhand shooters. However, SCARs are are kind of a boutique gun and who knows about parts availability. Then again, it's not like you need to replace parts when the gun is set up right out of the box. Things that turn me off on the SCAR is they have horrid triggers, and also they use a proprietary mag that is expensive, and not even sure where you can buy them. SCARs will keep their value though.

I am not familiar with POF so can't really comment on them, but I would rule them out just because they look terrible. To me they look like AR's that have not graduated HS yet. If looks don't matter to you, then have at it.

Re: FN Scar, POF, or LWRC?

The stock trigger on the fn is horrible. It depends what you want it for. If this is a dmr type i would go DI vs piston. You need to take a little better care of your rifle in the field but they don't dampen barrel harmonics as much and the rifle is more accurate.

You get more with the lwrc if your use is a patrol rifle/mid range hunter.

This is exactly why I shed the SCAR that I had!!

Re: FN Scar, POF, or LWRC?

LWRC. Great CS and all they build are short stroke piston guns.....mine shoots lights out with 175gr SMK's. Its pricey but you get what you pay for.

Re: FN Scar, POF, or LWRC?

I think they are all GOOD choices out of the 3 you are looking at. For me, it would be the SCAR because of the versatility of this weapon- modular and easily adaptable common multi-calibers.

First time I looked at a SCAR I wasn't really open to the look of the weapon, however it's really grown on me. It feels alot better when shouldering it than it would appear by looking at it.

Good luck in whatever you decide to purchase

I used to have 4 SCAR's and based of what you said about them (which i have heard the same things before) i sold 3 of them (kind of over-reacted a little). Just dont know about getting another one now, and its sat me on the fence, hence this post. Dont get me wrong, i still ove them....just wanted some other opinions

I HATED the SCAR when i first saw it, but then fell in love! And for quick target re-aquisition, i've not shot anything better. Just the risk facotr of what another Hide member so elequently called "boutique". I've heard (and i dont know that it is true) that you can't even order another barrel at all from FN right now unless you're military or PMC. Worries me a little. I hate to say it, but the polymer lower irks me a bit too!

Did I miss something...Larue makes the OBR buddy... Read up before you throw a couple thousand on a rifle you don't know how to operate or know what's it capability is...

Re: FN Scar, POF, or LWRC?

I know the lwrc is a good platform, but after owning, selling and servicing all three I would choose the pof, scar then the lwrc. But that is just my two cents. While in the military, we tested the pof and to be honest we prison raped the thing. It had relentless reliability. I don't really care about looks on my weapons as much as function. Then again from a combat background, I will take reliability and overall effectiveness over precision every time. The scar comes in second due to parts availability. The 16 has a lot more availability over the 17 since the military contract eats up 98% of the 17's... The lwrc is a little more prone to failure and after talking to some of my British counterparts who are using the lwrc, they said they would have preferred something different... The price of the pof being lower helps too...

Have a POF I bought about a month ago, and haven't had a chance to shoot it. At least the trigger feels better than the scar. Little heavier, but feels very ridgid. I'm shooting it next Friday so that should help as well

Re: FN Scar, POF, or LWRC?

I'm sure if you do some looking around you can get it for a lower price. I merely posted the link for you to see the specs and images, not essentially for the price.

I just punched "LWRC M6A5" into Google Shopping. Do this. You should see four results, the prices of which display:

$2,223
$2,279
$2,499.99 ($2,532.99 with est. tax & shipping)
$2,263.24 (Free shipping)

Check it out and see for yourself. Go nuts buddy, glad to have helped.

In the meantime, if you're still wondering about LWRC as a viable option compared to the likes of POF or PWS or another SCAR, check this out: http://www.expeditionexchange.com/lwrc/

Scroll down past the uppers and start reading. It's a long read, but do your homework. All that good stuff comes with every LWRC rifle, so there's no question or doubt in my mind that you get what you pay for. I'm convinced.

I have four ARs. They are all LWRC:

M6A2
M6-SPR w/ 18" non-spiral DMR barrel
M6-SL (for my girlfriend)
REPR (16" barrel battle rifle configuration. 20" barreled precision/SASS upper to be acquired in the future.)

All are flawless in their construction and performance. When it comes to LWRC, I like to say, you'll never look back. Haters can take a walk.

Re: FN Scar, POF, or LWRC?

i have the lwrc repr sniper model, just sold my scar 17s, to me no comparison, like it`s been said before, the stock trigger on the scar is horrible, spend 400.00 more to upgrade to geisselle super scar , then you are right in line with the repr
