Have to say this process really kills any attempt at instant gratification. </div></div>

Got the call yesterday that my stamp was back so at long last was able to get and grab the Elite Iron can. So from actual time that I gave my dealer the packet of forms to having things approved and in hand was just under 7 months.

holy S%#* man i would be pretty darn annoyed to say the least - esp with the wait times getting as long as they are - maybe someone will accidentally put your papers in the wrong spot and youll get approved in a week or two =D

I'm with you on this one. I sent out my payment about two weeks ago, but I don't want to call them to see if my application went pending. I feel like it would be opening pandora's box.

Re: Form 4 wait time

Dont stress calling them. You'll be lucky to ever talk with an examiner. They are as elusive as white unicorns. The receptionist will tell you the application status with no problem. Just have your copy of the Form 4 in front of you to reference. If you get stuck pending for more than 3 weeks as to speak with the examiner. Last time they were great to talk to as long as I was couteous.

What if I don't have a copy of my form 4 with me? When I received the form 4 paperwork, the dealer gave me two copies to send to the ATF. I went ahead and sent both of them without keeping a copy for myself, but other than the one they send back to the dealer, I assume the other one if for their records?

Call your dealer and ask what the SN is on the Form 4. Know the Dealer's actual FFL info (some are different than their store front name) and your name (trust, LLC, etc...)

They'll ask the SN and who you are (in relation to the Form 4). If Trust, you're the grantor, trustee, etc...

Re: Form 4 wait time

just ordered my first can and i am wondering how the examiners work? does each state have their own examiners or does everyone in the us get put in one pile and first come first serve? if every state has their own how many do they have? maybe a stupid question cuz even if kansas has 20 of em wait time is still six months

Yes. The examiners are assigned specific states.

Yes - or of the SBR, MG, SBS, etc... Call the NFA Branch #, they'll answer and tell them you'd like to check a status of a transfer. They'll ask for the Serial Number of the item(s) - You give it to them. Then they'll ask who you are - to reference the Transferor or Transferee on the Form 4 (1). Then they'll tell you the status. If you don't know your examiner, you can ask who that is as well.

Just be polite.

The transfer is to a SOT dealer in another state for the purpose of a sale to an individual in that state.
I hope the transfer to him from there is quick as well.

Re: Form 4 wait time

Verdugo60,

I just purchased a can from Mile High Shooting Accessories and the current wait time in our neck of the woods is 5 months under a trust. The sick part of it is there is no reason for it, a criminal history and fingerprint check does not even take two days in the real LE world. For a trust it should be two days also because you are not sending in a picture or fingerprit cards. A little love from Washington DC sure would be nice to light a fire under their asses.

Beg to differ.

I didn't have to take a day off of work, drive the 30-40 minutes up to Baltimore/Reisterstown to stand in line then sit for upwards of four hours for fingerprints with all the illegals, reprobates and offenders of one sort or another, THEN go to the State Police barracks and wait for someone to come downstairs for my paperwork, THEN wait two to four weeks for the MSP to stamp the forms and send them to me.

I saved a day, and a month by using a trust last time even though it still took six months total.

It'll take 6 months again this time, but that's how it was under the LAST democrat socialist regime.

Thanks man. I have talked with Mile High, they seem great. Will be using them most likely. The trust is worth it just to be able to avoid the Jackass Sheriff in Arapahoe county that has twice "forgotten" to call me back about my can.

The NFA/ATF Branch has a hearing in July about current backlog at their offices. The heads of the department are to appear before congress and a panel of superiors.
