Suppressors Form 4 wait time

Sent in Paperwork/Money Order - 7/8/14
Money order received - 7/10/14
Status changed to Pending - 7/11/14

Am I the only person to ever experience a status change that quickly?! I just got off the phone with them because I wanted to give a few weeks for it to change but they gave me the above date for a pending start.

Hah. Actually I Have. Sent Paperwork In With My Check April 9.Check Cleared April 15. Good Good.

Call To Check My Status Last Week. Pending April 14... I Asked Her How That Was Possible She Said Thats Just The Way It Went... Pending A Day Before The Bank Saw The Transaction.

I'll Take it.

I called today to check on my trust form 4. They received my form and check on 31 May. It went pending 2 June. I was told a nine month wait. I know this is just the standard line these days. It's a great sign it went pending so quickly!

Anyone else feel like they're waiting for a baby? I think I need to paint the gun room in perpetration. Maybe I should host a suppressor shower.

Oddly enough, I knocked my wife up a week before I submitted my paper form 4. My can came through on her due date and she's going into labor today. So yes, yes it feels like waiting for a baby haha. Good timing though considering I shoot in the backyard 99% of the time.

I found a little solace in changing my muzzle devices while I was waiting. I bought a couple at a time and it distracted me enough to keep me sane.

my wife and my cans should be due in the same week. Too bad that's fucking February. Gonna have a hard time telling her I gotta go to the range for a bit with a newborn at home

Hell no. Waiting for the baby was a constant stream of stress and crap to do. Waiting for a suppressor is like being told that on some indeterminate day in the future two of the hottest porn stars on the planet are going to show up at your house and run through the Kama sutra with you cover to cover.

Paint the gun room? No sir. Find every available piece of brass and stuff powder and a bullet into it because once it arrives you will be spending so much time on the range your wife will think you are really going to see your mistress. You are.

Hell ya they take walk in's now !
I flew out 2 days ago to the ATF office, handed them my trust forms and 30 minutes later I walked out with all 3 of my stamps ! 10 minutes a stamp ! How crazy is this they even validated my parking, and gave me a free lunch pass.
Well worth the $500 flight, I'm flying back out next week to do a few more stamps.

One word: STAMPEDE! They're gonna have to call in the St. Louis County Sheriff's dept. ;-)

If they are actually doing walk-ins that quickly there should be no reason whatsoever that the wait time should be 7-10 months for mailed forms.

Im all for efficiency, but starting a new process that circumvents the current wait time is kind of a doucher move.

Then again, that may be a bit of jealousy talking. :p

where id this info come from for walk ins?

I suppose the ATF thinks we'll all be happy that its "only" 8 months instead of a year. Some of us remember when it was 2 months, and that was before widespread adoption of computers! I won't be happy until it's REASONABLE again. Everyone with a brain knows it SHOULD be a point of sale item.

They want fingerprints? Then give me a goddamn website to upload fingerprints to at the time I'm doing a NICS... as I can scan them from my customers at the time of sale.
They want pictures of person? SAME!
They want serials of the items sold? SAME!

Everything they want to accomplish with these bullshit background checks could be done via AUTOMATED methods available.

Clearly you don't understand the purpose of any of the systems that are in place. This rather famous quote should explain:

“The bureaucracy is expanding to meet the needs of the expanding bureaucracy.”

I imagine the conversation went something like this:

"Sir - why do we need to charge people $200 for a suppressor?"
"Because we need to pay the examiners."
"Why do we need examiners?"
"Because someone has to approve the forms."
"Then what are the forms for?"
"To get $200 to pay the examiner."

I believe the original intended purpose of the $200 and form was to have an extra charge against mobsters that were caught when using these items. Also, to deter the general public from having them. Back when the NFA act went into place $200 was a much larger sum.

I do remember the 2 month waits, as recents as 08 and 09... In my stamp collection. I would have to say, in my opinion that is actually not even reasonable given today's technology

I'm kicking myself now - wasted 3 weeks by not filing by mail while my SOT was looking into the e-file system, and apparently not getting anywhere. Finally gave up on the 'fantasy' of getting my stamp back in a couple of months via e-file, and mailed Form 4 & check in mid-Feb. Check was cashed 2/19/14, so I'm probably at least another month out before I can go pick up the SF SOCOM 762RC.

I'm liking 3DHUSKER's approach - just keep buyin' them, and you'll always have one coming. Think I need one of the new TBAC CB series cans to go with the BA.

Form 4 Mailed 8/18
Delivered 8/25
Check cashed 8/27

Form 1 mailed 8/18
delivered 8/26
check cashed ?

What number do you call to find out when it goes pending?
Do they call or notify you if there is something wrong with your process? or do they just mail it back?

It generally takes a month or so to go pending after the check has been cashed. There is no way to know if something is wrong after it goes pending until it hits the reviewers desk (the time at which they would approve it). So give a call a month or two from now, make sure it has gone pending (and find out who your assigned reviewer is) then you got to sit tight, and wait for whatever the current lead times are. Calling every other week will not help, I know its hard to do, but don't. Also calling your dealer won't help, because it is completely out of their hands. Use NFAtracker, input your info, and use the wait time predict as a good guideline for what your wait time is going to be. At the point in which 75% of people with your reviewer in the past 6 months have received their suppressor, that would be a good/reasonable time to call and check in. Trust me, it's a pain to wait, but you will gain nothing, except anxiety by constantly calling and checking in. Sit tight, try to forget about it, and pray that everything goes well. That's my experience at least.

NFA # 304 616-4500
You will need your serial #, name of trust (if applicable), and the dealer who you bought it from/is transferring it to you.

Best of luck, trust me it's well worth the wait. You won't shoot any other way. Might as well go ahead and purchase a few more if you have a gun without one.

Quick question about the part in bold. If I'm doing an in-state, individual to individual transfer, would I use the sellers name when calling?

And I have a surplus of patience at this point, I want to see if the NFA beats my gunsmith.
