Garmin Applied Ballistics Setup

Anyone actually using the Applied Ballistics app on their Garmin? I finally sat down to set it up and can't seem to get it right. I have entered my zero distance at 100yds and when I look in the Range Card it shows my bullet drop at 4.81" which is what it should be for 200yds. I can't seem to make any changes that fix this. Here are my settings, let me know if you see anything wrong... genuinely confused here.

The watch is a Garmin Tactix Delta w/ Applied Ballistics running software version 23.00.

FWIW your scope height doesn’t look right. An AR15 with a 1.5” mount (measured from the rail) gives a height over bore of around 2.6”. With your mount I think you should have a scope height of around 2.8”. Measure from the middle of the scope to the middle of the bore and try that.

It is weird for sure, only 100-200 are jacked up, the other values are "normal".
Putting those values in Strelok and moving the sight height from 0.7" to 3.7" (and values between) I can't get drop values that come even close to those first two.

I just put all his data into Ballistic AE with a HOB of 1.7” and got close to the same results he did. FWIW I think if he inputs the correct height over bore his data will line up.

So I measured that out to 2.9" with a micrometer.

The margin of error got bigger. I cannot seem to get the drop anywhere close to the factory specs. Of note, the AB app has different bullet characteristics for this round than the manufacturers website. I've tried both sets of data and do not get anywhere near the data presented on their website.

Are you trying to get the ballistic watch data to match that on the ammo box? If so you are going about this backwards. You make your calculator match your actual observed data. You have no idea if the manufacturers data is right for your gun, it is just a guide (For example, it appears the HOB on the box is set at 1.5”) Second, it appears you have some setting toggled in the calculator wrong. FWIW I would recommend you check ALL your settings I think you will find something out of wack. Maybe post pics of the setup screens so we can see if some input is wrong. It almost appears it is calculating your drop from 0 rather than 100yds.

My main point of confusion is that it is treating 100yds (which is the zero) as the drop for 200yds. Which skews the rest of the numbers. I know the numbers wont be dead on accurate to my rifle, but I would expect to see a drop of 0" at 100yds if that is my zero.

I think you are gonna have to drill into the sub menus. What is your base range for the range card set at? It looks like the Drop is set to start at zero rather than 100 yds.

Base range is set to 100 and it only goes as low as 20. The only other setting under that menu is for Range Increments. I'll see if there are any other sub menus I am missing.

There is nothing wrong with your Garmin or with the outputs it's giving you. It's showing you your elevation adjustment at ranges (in mils) from your 100 yd zero) and your drop from the muzzle (in inches). I'm not sure how you select which outputs you view on a Garmin (I don't have one but have a Kestrel 5700) but I'd suggest you just change the outputs it shows you on the main screen to elevation and wind (being that drop is pretty much useless unless trying to work out the math for a loophole). I just checked my Kestrel and if I go and check drop for any of my profiles at 100yds, it shows the drop (in inches) from the muzzle. If you absolutely need to know what your elevation adjustment (or how much the bullet drops) from your 100yd zero (why?), then just change your elevation outputs from mils to inches.

I don’t have time to dive into this at the moment, but I built your gun in AB Mobile and this what it shows at 100

This is with no coriolis spin drift or AJ. I turned those off on my watch as well and got the same results you did. I’ll try and mess with it some more.

Your photo in post #7 shows a drop at 100yds of 5.71". That looks correct to me. The profile in my Kestrel for my .223 gas gun shooting 75s @ 2650 shows a drop of 5.65" @ 100yds.

Yes. It suddenly dawned on me that it’s showing drop not path. There will always be a drop, even at your zero distance. The ab mobile app shows path which is 0. So you are setup correctly.

If the 4.81" at 100yds is accurate for a 100yd zero then the drop it is showing for 200yds should be accurate as a hold over?

? Your watch is telling you the hold is U.5 mils. The 13.5” is the TOTAL uncorrected drop from the muzzle. This doesn't mean anything at 200 for holdover because you zeroed at 100 yds and modified the curve.

Given this picture then, for 200yds I would hold over .6mil and the uncorrected drop is 13.51" at 200? I may just not be reading this right...

FWIW yes I believe you will hold U.63, the other is the total uncorrected drop from the muzzle. If I were you I would change that to a wind hold or something that would be usable data. That’s just how I run my kestrel and Sig rangefinder though.

One of the things applied ballistics does really poorly is having a consistent product across its whole ecosystem. I should be able to pull up any device running the AB engine and get the exact same result on every device as well as choose what info I want on my range card. They really need to to better in that regard.

Yea. So in this case "drop" is misleading as I was thinking "path". That is annoying. I feel kinda dumb at this point... total misunderstanding on my part. lol. The only unexplained bit is the difference in round characteristics between the manufacturer and the AB engine.

I missed at first as well. But it shouldn’t even be an issue. It should show both or neither. Like I said, a lot of inconsistencies across their ecosystem. Each vendor picks what they want when AB should just say here it is, all of it and let the user decide what’s important. I mean the kestrel didn’t even have turret corrections until recently. That’s absurd.

Like I said, set your fields to elevation and wind. Holdover (or dial) in mils. If you really need to know what the holdover from your 100yd zero is in inches, then change the units for elevation from mils to inches or do the math (0.6mils @ 200yds =4.32")

Not sure if you got your answer, but I think you just loaded a G1 drag profile and it should be G7. G1 is for pistol bullets

Was going to post the same. G7 for 77gr SMK is 0.192 or 0.193

Doesn't the AB app have access to the CDMs for the bullets? I read you have to pay with the app but it's included in the $200 modeler
