Yes, the NF has shade on it. That pic is how both those scopes come from the factory. The NF has its own rubber caps, the Premier has a Premier cap on the rear and a BC on the front.

My eyes suck for close objects, so for me the FFP reticle is pretty difficult to see at lowest power setting. The 3.5-15x FFP doesnt work at all for me bottom half of the power range (I looked through them at SHOT). It sucks getting old. Hope that info helps.

for a .308 would you recommend the 3-15 or 5-25 ? mostly steel plates action up to 1,000 yards.

The only thing that concerns me about high mag scopes, are the size of the reticle, and it's usefulness on lower powers.

For what purposes? If targets are close enough to dial down to 3X or 5X you won't be ranging them or using the reticle for holds anyway. It the reticle is fine and you can't see it well enough kick on the lit reticle and your gtg (another reason I don;t go without illum reticles anymore).

At RO this past trip we were shooting movers (can't remember what yardage, 300 I think), and I had my scope turned to 8 or 10x I believe so that I could keep a wider field of view. Not being able to mil on lower powers would have made that course more difficult.

GenII XR at 10X, should be usable for leading movers (I generally drop to 10X for movers).
(I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of it against a background though)

Hopefully I'll be able to fondle mine by this time next month.
I got to peek through a guy's S&B 5-25 GenIIXR in NorCal, but it was in the parking lot so I couldn't really have eyes on targets. It looked a lot bigger to my eye in person than in pictures.....

the premier 5x25 is large. everything about it says beefy, the knobs everything. when I looked through one at low power, it was pretty hard for me to see also. when bringing the power up a little, everything was great. the 3x15 was the same for me. everything on 3-6 power or so was so small it was hard for me to see. when above the 6x everything got better. I am getting the 5x25 because I would rather have to much then not enough. RG

Here is a horrible quality pic of the Premier Gen2 XR and NF mildot reticles at 11X. This was taken just holding the scope freehand and holding a camera behind it, hence the poor quality. It just gives an idea of the XR in FFP size at 11x compared to the NF Mildot in SFP, which stays the same size (note to new shooters: you must understand this when doing ranging and holdovers with SFP variable power scopes). Once again, this is an out of focus quickie photo, in real ife these reticles are sharp and the glass is crystal clear all the way to the edge. Pictures simply cannot capture the quality of the glass in these scopes. mark

I like the pics. First glance I was "whoah, look how much more FOV", but then realized they were cropped.
I'm still kinda thinking the same as 427Cobra, hopefully I can adapt to the GenIIXR....

I was wondering why the reticle is designed the way that it is. What was the logic behind making the half mil marks smaller than the mil dots? Why were the shapes and locations of the holdover markings chosen? The half mill marks seem to dominate. When the mind is trained that the larger hash lines are mils, and it is the case with other scopes you own, there is more opportunity for mistakes to be made.
Asking because I'm interested in the scope and the reticle is the only thing that I don't really like about it. But. I'm open to possibility of it having some kind of advantage over similar designs. Shame they don't cover it in detail in that "getting the most" document...

I am having a really hard time with the waiting fore this Premier 5-25 Shooting this weekend with the new 375 Cheytac just thinking how it will be with this new glass on it. Man its like waiting on christmas..

Alright... think I'm sold on it. Seems to be a better option for replacing the SN3 than the S&B 5-25. Hear that one has issues at the lower end of the magnification and requires a 30 MOA base.
Guess I can get used to the Christmas reticle...

Would be nice if they finally shipped them to the people who had confidence in them, paid in full and ordered direct from Premier back in Jan before these vendors even thought of selling them until after seeing them at SHOT.

i placed mine in the deadline group buy...chris at premier emailed me friday thanking me for my patience that it would be in my hands by months end (Aug) i sure hope so...8 month wait my iron ridge arms 308 build awaits it

I got mine in the other day. Mounted it on the Valkyrie and went to the range with it today. Glass is FANTASIC. Knobs are huge, a little stiff but adjustments are easily felt and heard. The XR reticle is nice. I only have 2 issues and both of them are really not that big of deal.
1. You really cant use the mils until 7-8 power. Which isnt that big of deal because i'd most likely use more magnification if I shoot at a distance i had to use a hold over anyways.
2. You lose about the last 1.5mils of the reticle if you go all the way up to 25x. But i can make it to 1000 (which is the farthest my range goes) with 8.5 mils so its not a show stopper either.
Other than that its a fantastic scope, everything i was hoping it would be and more. I'm very happy with it.

I got the call today and mine will be sent out on Wed of next week. I feel sorry for the guys that have already paid for theirs and are waiting. I really do not understand a company that would do that to up front payers. That being said, I have been waiting for mine a few months and now it is here. Can not wait for it. RG
