I've gotten the itch to pick up a GSG-5 but I really hate the new post-lawsuit version's look. Not sure how hard it will be to find a used one that is the old style without paying out the ass.

Post pictures of yours if you can. I'd like to see what you think of it and if it's really worth it for a .22lr plinker.

Have easily put between 12k and 13k rounds thru mine. I love it. I have only put Wal-Mart Federal bulk pack thru mine and it loves it. The only time I get failure to feeds or jams is after a couple hundred rounds or so have gone thru it. Solution for me has been to take a scrub brush to the feed ramps, bolt face, and what I can see of the inside of the receiver, then literally dump lube all over the internals. Works like magic for another couple hundred, then the same process. I have only had one "serious" problem, and that was a piece fell out in the back of the receiver. Took off the stock, put the piece back on, and it worked again. I have found the Promags to be just as reliable as the GSG mags. The 110rd drum that just came out worked flawlessly exactly once. The next time I used it it would jam about every 3rd round. I attribute that to the cracked tower problem they all seemed to have. Luckily, ATI stands behind their products and their CS is also very good. They already have promised free replacements to all who have them as soon as they get them in. It is a damn fun gun to shoot. 50 yrds is as far as I have shot with it at a CHL type target. All rounds hit the target, not that I was shooting for accuracy or anything, just saying it will hit what you are aiming at. Also, if you like to accessorize, most MP5 airsoft products, and some HK products will work on the GSG5. rrages.com and hotgunparts.com have a ton of GSG5 accessories. Ironically, the Classic Army stuff is usually better quality and works better than the actual GSG stuff. Check out the GSG5 thread on ARFCOM in the Armory section. Lots of mods and pics, and Chris from ATI is on there almost daily. For the older model, just look on gunbroker or the arfcom for sale section. They are everywhere. Here's mine after I sponge painted mine with Krylon.

nope. The HK MP5 .22LR just came out. I have only seen them for sale from hkspecialist. I'm waiting for the SD version to come out then I will snatch up one of those.

Yeah that MK22 is really nice. But way too pricey to me. $500 seems too much for a plinker. I mean I thought $350 was pricey for my S&W 15-22. I love that thing. I would have gone with the GSG if I wanted to wait a few months for a stamp.

I liked mine when I had it, just took some work to get it to run 100% as other guys have said above. Traded it in for a dedicated AR upper which I have had zero problems with from the start.

It has been my experience that people either love or hate their GSG. I have had mine for 3 years and it has been love/hate. I replaced all of the screws in mine, which is a must because the ones that came with it are garbage and strip easiler. I also had a feed issue and stove pipes. The feed issue was due to the mags having narrowings in the side feed wells that was fixed with some fine grit sand paper. The stove pipes came down to having to replace the firing pin and springs. Long story short, I would not get another one if I had the choice, IMHO. They are definitely fun to shoot and are actually pretty accurate, but I am retiring mine and recently bouth a tactical solutions .22 upper for my AR, which is fantastic. Either way, do what you feel is best for your needs and wallet.

Jello, I know you were against the 10/22 but honestly it may be a decent way to go. I figure that you can pick up a stock 10/22 for a decent price, do any upgrades on the trigger or such and get a Archangel Marauder kit. Gives it the assault rifle look. At that point you'll be around the same cost as the GSG. Think that's my next .22 build. Are you only set on the GSG or what?

I'm a huge HK MP5 fan so that's my primary reason for getting it. I scored a barely used one for $300 with 3 mags and only about 200 rounds down the tube.

Plus I plan to SBR it here shortly and possibly get a suppressor for it.

While I wouldn't dispute that the 10/22 is a good fun gun, I'm just not interested in one any more. I was back in the day when you could get a 17HM2 bolt and barrel for them, but never got around to it and lost interest.

Here's mine complete with LaserMax green laser and suppressor. Just picked up the ATI 110 round drum which does not work well and appears to be a total waste of money.

Bimota make sure you got one of the good drums. They recalled the entire first batch due to a crack in the tower. Check out the thread on arfcom for more info.

Re: GSG-5 give me your reviews. Pics preferred!

Prolly the best purchase I have made. GSG522 carbine.

Just a great addition to the stable and one that can be used by beginners, children (with suprvisn) etc.....

Re: GSG-5 give me your reviews. Pics preferred!

I had 4 of them and they are great for plinking, but like my 10/22 more. You can look into jg sales to see if they have any old stock I seen a while back they had the old style for 369.00

Re: GSG-5 give me your reviews. Pics preferred!

reviving old thread here, but I just ordered one of the archangel marauder kits and bought a standard carbine 10/22 18.5 inch rilfe to throw in it. When I get it all together, wll post some pics. Has anyone else bought one of these?
