How the Hide has changed

Be that as it may, I have learned a lot (mostly from the rest of The 'Hide) since 2001...

Hehe, yeah that's pretty much me as well. I'm probably the biggest lurker of all time here, given my ratio of posts since 2001 as well. Good thing I don't have to pay via any sort of knowledge transfer ratio! Hell, back in those days I believe I signed up with a 56K dial-up connection... 13 years later and it's 300 Mbit fiber to my house.

In reply to earlier posts in this thread, I think the forum software change a while back was overall a necessary event. I am a network/systems engineer and can fully understand the reasoning and logic behind it all. There were ample warnings sent out as well before it happened. Old code, new code, old database, new database. The software/coding world is like SAMMI vs. CIP - just make up your damn minds and pick one as some sort of standard :D

I have noticed in general that a different crowd has posted here more frequently. One might say "under-educated" whereas another might say "uneducated". Overall I don't feel this is entirely a bad thing as it is our duty in a way to pass the knowledge. The problem, and I think I speak for all of us when I say that, "I would rather have no information versus false information". Comes with the clientele generally.

I do like answering people's questions that are legitimate and meaningful. For instance, at the range the other day a stranger asked me what the steel sizes were at a KD. I asked him if he was practicing ranging and he replied "yes". I then proceeded to show him how the distance formula can be reversed to find the target size if the distance is already known. He was quite amazed and I felt somewhat pleased knowing that perhaps he might teach that to someone else.

I've always been the sit back and watch type though. If I have something important to say or ask, I'll post it. If not, well, my history has proven that case example.

Anyhow, I do think that more of the senior guys are still around for sure, they just don't contribute as much because of the slight audience change. Regardless, this is still the best precision rifle mass-community on the Internet hands down and I don't see what changing anytime in the foreseeable future.

Whew, my text/post quota is full for this year :)
