Would somone mind posting a pic of the back of the bolt lug on their impact action bolt? I'm seeing a rough edge in the corner of mine and I was wanting to see if mine is similar to somone elses. Thank you

I don't own an Impact, but that definitely doesn't look right. I'm looking at it on a small cellphone screen and could be mistaken, but it looks like the metal is starting to shear off the back of the lugs, my guess from galling.

Have you been religiously greasing the back of the lugs, or running the bolt "dry"? Are you running higher pressure ammo?

Here is my bolt. It has been greased probably heavier then required but I always over lube.

you can see that both lugs have a little wear on opposite side of each other.
This is after 2500 live fire rounds and probably 10k dry fires.

Ok mine looks maybe a little more wear than that but not too much. Thank you for the pics.

Thank you

If you have any concerns, get a hold of Tate, he will take care of them and if any issues arise that dude is solid.

I had a bolt screwed up by a gunsmith, he took care of it without any questions, except being curious as to who the smith was.

He shipped it back to me on his dime. Same day shipped back to me once he go it.

I have 2 of these actions and both have similar wear but not this bad.
its where the lug makes contact with the cam
im a bit OCD about cleaning and greasing those area's
One thing that will make this worse is if the brass is tight and you have to force the bolt closed
I've got the barrel out of one action of my actions I'll try and remember to get some pics in the morning

I have had a handful of Impacts, and all the Impacts that Ive used eventually got the same kind of wear like that regardless of grease, though the grease helps prevent it. I might have even posted a similair thread to this about it. I ended up writing it off as normal wear n tear as it didnt seem to have any affect on performance.

Edit: I should have also mentioned I only use factory ammo, no pressure signs.

I guess my question would be for all the ones that have the wear like mine, has accuracy went down or are they still shooting as good as ever?

In my experience, accuracy, reliability, bolt operation/smoothness, and ease of chambering hasn't changed at all. Theyre all still as awesome as they were fresh from the factory. And that's why I love Impact lol.
Rest assured, of the many Impacts in circulation, Im sure these wear marks are quite common, and no reports of them causing issues have surfaced! And to be fair, I have other actions that sort of exhibit similair wear. A factory 700 for example, especially if I dont use grease, and Ive never noticed a difference in performance.

Pretty sure mine has that too and i'm pretty diligent about greasing my lugs on pretty much every action i own. Nothing irritates me more than a gritty cam over when chambering. Though could've been the 308 BF bolt i had. Having said that i might have some galling, i've had a couple of stiff bolt lifts in the last sequence of load development for the 7 SS.

Only have 116 rounds on mine, though i'm pushing. I want these 180gr ELD-Ms at 2950~3000fps.

I don't see hardly any wear on yours in the corners.

Pics are of 2 different bolts 1st one has about 200rds
Second one has1000

In my opinion these bolt lugs seem to have an abnormally high amount of wear on them for their respective round counts. More so then other actions.

Perhaps not a concern, I'll let others more knowledgeable then myself comment on that. But I'm personally surprised at the amount of wear on these bolts. In some cases, it almost seems like the metal is shearing off the lugs.

im pretty sure its not wear and the leading edges are just knocked down for slicker lock up transition

ive got a new bolt in my safe at home i can look at later, but im pretty sure all 3 of mine came like that

its the leading edge of the camming surfaces of the bolts...it hasnt changed on any of mine in 2k rounds on one, and 6-7k on the other
