Imported carbon fiber tripod (RT90C)

@CageFighter @Lunchbox27 Last I checked, RRS sent out almost every 3 series leveling base people had on order last week. They have a lot of parts needing to be made so not making crazy extras right now.

Just a word of advice, if you want something from RRS just place the order on the phone or online and itll ship in order it was placed, and before distributors. You also wont get charged until it ships and there is no fee cancellation policy. Hope that helps.

I know that posse do not want to buy stuf that is not made in the homeland.
But sometimes you got to.
I do not have money for 1500 buck tripod made of carbonfiber.
Sirui is company from China, but they do make a good stuff.
6 year warranty, models for all the user, alloy tripod all the way to handle to 20 kg, 44lbs weight, and then there is carbonfiber models.
Sirui US homepage.

I have 2 Sirui tripods, and ball heads, i can say with 100% from my hearts, that check these out guys.

This is the flagship model, legs made of carbonfiber, can hold 30kg weight, i use Sirui K40x ball head, rated to 35kg.

All I can say is wow. This thing makes a huge difference over my Manfrotto. Below are some pics. One shows the RT-90 next to the Manfrotto. I ended up going with the Sirui ball head. Amazon had a "reworked" head for $40 off so I tried it. The thing looks brand new and works really well.

I’m going to try to go out and shoot groups early next week. So far, it seems like a substantial upgrade.

My RT90C arrived today. Tomorrow my RRS TA3 arrives. Once I get it all together and play “special operator sniper” with it, I’ll give my initial impressions.

I’m coming from an low end tripod with a center column and a Kopfjager mount. Based on what I have read so far, this should be a nice upgrade.

Anyone know of a RRS anvil 30 with standard mounting base in stock. The one I knew of I sat on the fence too long and it’s gone. I am aware of placing a back order with RRS and they fill them in a few weeks. Just wanted to see if anyone knows of one to fulfill my impatience

Been shooting .22lr matches all Summer using the RT90C and the DLOW55 ball head. Very pleased with the tripod. The ball head works well and is very stable.

The issues I'm having is it will rotate counter clockwise smoothly under tension but not counter clockwise w/o loosening it up quite a bit. You can rock it to get it to come counter clockwise but not ideal.

The plastic insert that holds the actual ball has begun to slide around in the pocket and I ended up chipping one of the corners of the plastic insert as it slid out into one of the gaps and I rotated the head and neck of the head broke the corner off.

I also am wondering what they use for lubrication for the ball as mine had a white powder that over time has dissipated and seemed to increase friction on the plastic insert causing it to come loose. If I knew how to disassemble it w/o breaking it, I could glue/adhere the plastic insert back in place as well.

I've done very well in all the stages requiring or allowing the use of a tripod. It is extremely stable once I'm sighted in on my target.

I would give the tripod 5 stars and the ball head 3.5 because of the plastic liner slipping. Would recommend both but researching other types of ball heads or similar. The ball head is very heavy. Not necessarily a bad thing, just thought I'd mention it.

As a result of some research and this thread, I picked up the RT-90C and a Desmond DLOW-55 ball head. Both from Amazon, and I have to say I'm impressed. I've had it out a couple of times so far and I'm still learning how I like it set up in various sitting, kneeling, and standing positions, but it's worked great. First round impact set up in a kneeling position at 835 yds on a standard IPSC target. I also tried doing the free-recoil "demonstration" Frank does at his classes...just to see if I could do it, and I did. As others have said, it's an outstanding value for under $500. The Hide coming through again with solid info to make a buying decision.

how do u like that optic? im thinking about that for the SCAR 20S.

Ok, got to try this thing out tonight. Let me start out by saying my first tripod was from NightStalker with a Kopfjager saddle. In my testing, this honestly is not stable enough to make a shot out to 430 yards. I was shooting at a 12” plate. I couldn’t get stable at all with it. My scope was doing figure 8’s and I couldn’t spot my misses. But, I wanted cheap and didn’t listen to what others have said.

After that range trip, I went home and tested some different methods with a sling and dry fire practice. I tried to see if I could hold the reticle stable on a stop sign at 1,000 yards away. Couldn’t do it. Even seated with a rear bag, it was far too unstable.

Now, the RT90C. Solid! Very easy to deploy. All legs lock up tight. The case is nice and can easily accommodate any mounting device with room to spare. I dropped the TA3 into the mount and after some tinkering for adjustment/tightening down, I was ready to see how much more stability I would gain.

Wow! being able to hold the reticle on a stop sign at 1,000 yards, standing, butt into my shoulder pocket, shows me how great this mount is. I am a believer now why so many go with RRS. The lock up on my KRG ARCA rail is nice and tight. There is no wobble that isn’t introduced other than my breathing or body movement (ie. the rifle isn’t moving around in the mount and there is no center column to add to movement)

I now have more confidence in this initial testing that I’ll not only be able to make hits at distances, but spot my impacts/misses.

I’ll get out to the range in a week or so and put it to the test and report back.

Anyone used both a ta 3 and a anvil30 on this tripod? Which one has more degrees of vertical? Am I splitting hairs here.

I can't answer with how they work on the tripod, since I've used the TA-U-LC on mine, but the Anvil gives you quite a bit more range. The leveling bases limit you to 17º up or down, if I remember correctly. The Anvil goes 35º up or down. The question is do you really need that much inclination? You don't really think 17º is much, but when you have the rifle mounted, you realize just how much it is. If you need it, the Anvil is the way to go. If not, save yourself a few bucks unless you really gotta have the Anvil.

Edit: I found the thread from a few years ago, but there are a few pics of a rifle at max inclination and declination on a leveling base.

I think I will do the anvil 30. I shoot matches in different areas. And at the last NRL gunwerks Match we shot some angles on day 2 before it was canceled.

I got the RT90C and the TA-3. As others have said, the bowl that comes on the tripod can be used with the TA-3 but it just doesn't work as well as the RRS bowl does. That being said, if there were an adapter made to mount a TA-3 to the RT90C, would anyone be interested in such an adapter? What would you be willing to pay? Looking into feasibility of having it made and waiting on pricing.

I'm still holding out hope that the 100mm RRS TA4 (which is currently out of stock due to factory transitions) will work with the RT90C without any special work around (other than a shim like the Feisol needs with the TA3).

First one didn't turn out bad. Have to test it and see how it works. Milled the bowl that came with the rt90c down to fit the rrs bowl in it and added a set screw to secure it.

Got mine in and set up, and am very happy with it. I went two directions for the mounting options and I think it works great and lets you mount any rifle in any situation.

1) purchased an Anvil-30 from MH and direct threaded it on. Locks up tight, very solid with my AX.
2) Utilized the bowl that came with the tripod and picked up a used Pig Saddle which directly mounts on the 3/8" on the video bowl. The bowl itself isn't perfect as noted above, but I find that it works just fine with the pig saddle as it innately has a little more play than an arca/pic mount.

Total all-in cost: $732 (excluding tax)

A few pics below, will be headed to the range tomorrow.
When you direct mounted the anvil, is there anything else that helps lock it in? Have you had issues with the ballhead coming loose? Looking to get a setup like yours.

I have an RT90C with the Anvil 30 and used red loctite on the threads to prevent it from backing off. It has worked perfectly. I have only used it with my Vudoo to get hits on a 10" plate at 260 yards with free recoil and spot with my binoculars. I am extremely happy with its utility.

Do you know if the series 3 plate would work like the picture of the Feisol?

So after reading all the reviews I decided to pick up RT90c. I also picked up the Desmond DLOW-55. I haven’t seen as many reviews on this head but it looked like a knock off of the RRS anvil. Do you guys have any reviews on this set up for range work and hunting within a mile of the truck usage. I have a tikka 6.5 in a krg bravo w/ acra full length rail. Are there any other accessories I should pick up?

i've heard that term "free recoil" a couple times, but not sure what that means. do you mean letting the tripod absorb the recoil and not controlling the rifle/recoil?

The skirt/bushing around the ball on my DLOW-55 slipped and I decided to try and "fix" it. After a blind 'tear down' I was able to determine that there's a set screw that holds the skirt/bushing in place when you rotate the ball. In order to access the set screw you need to remove the largest knob. In order to remove the largest knob you need to access the Allen head bolt under the black disc covering the hole of large knob, all knobs actually, and it's not obvious how to do that. Nor is it easy to get even a razor edge under the edge of the disc to lift it out of place. I ended up heating it in an attempt to figure out how to remove it. So, if you're skirt slips... You're welcome. :geek:

My ball head performs much better than new. Must've been loose from the factory. There was no thread lock on that set screw. On everything else though. Thought I was going to break something while blindly destructing my ball head.

Finally got to put this thing through its paces. I couldn’t get past 475 yards today, but will be able to test at 700-1200 yards in a few weeks.

That said, this thing is fucking awesome. I shot standing, and seated with a bag. Zero issues hitting head shots on full size IPSC targets. Shot broke, recoil, still on target.

For $620, I’m very happy!

I ordered a RT80 and Anvil30 on Nov 6. Tripod came in Nov 8 via prime, hoping the Anvil shows up by end of next week. Anyone know what RRS’s current back order wait is?
The rep said in the Black Friday deals thread that they’re hoping to get the back orders out by Black Friday. I ordered mine from here https://thermalopticsplus.com/ I think I got the last one though or at least that’s what the person on the phone said. I did save on tax and shipping ordering from them than rrs. It says it should be here on Monday.

Cool, thanks for that heads up. I didn’t realize it was in stock anywhere so nice score for ya there.
Headed out to hunt some WTX muleys next week and decided it was time to to upgrade my Reaper/Slik700 to a lighter setup. If it doesn’t get here in time sounds like it’ll be here to use on pigs when I get back.

No worries. Good luck with your hunt. What do you think of the rt80?

Just got my tripod in. This thing is a beast! I put a shitty little ballhead on it so I can spot with it this weekend, but damn it’s a beefy tripod. I can’t wait to get my anvil on Monday.

I also ordered the last one from thermaloptics plus a week and half ago. Lol. Got it as promised from them.

My buddy is a machinist and is going to make a plate that mounts into the tripod that utilizes the mounting holes of the standard anvil 30 base. Once it’s finished I will post it up.

That’d be awesome if he could some extras. I’m sure they’d sell pretty good.

Great tripod, hard to beat for the money. Just got a RRS universal base for it which is super solid. Hope to get some trigger time on it this week.

Here's a crummy pic-
