so im wanting to build one of 2 cartriges for next in deer season.

im looking at the 358 bfg

and the 35 idc.

i cant find much info on it i know its based on the remington br case. but the big thing that turned me to it is when i called aj brown thats what he recomended. anyone have any insight to share?

the rules for a indiana deer rifle are

1. .357 or larger bullet
2. Have a minimum case length of 1.16
c) Have a maximum case length of 1.625

.458 Socom is all the rage in Indiana. Runs in standard AR-15's with standard mags, just need a bolt+barrel. It is classified as deer legal in Indiana, uses pistol primers, case is 1.575" and shoots a .458 dia bullet from 68gr-600gr, lot of people are using Sierra 300gr JHP as well as 405gr JSP from Remington on deer, guy posted a thread on arfcom where he took 3 does in 3 seconds with his socom this season.

Also seen a few bolt guns built for .458 Socom, I'm pretty sure it uses a regular .30-06 bolt face so its easy to build for. It basically runs like a light .45-70 pushing 300gr bullets around 1800-2000fps and the 405s around 1500-1700fps.

i have seen the socom and a buddy built one off a stevens action. im not overly impressed with the socom. i think the 358 line is more to my liking

You mean like this? My new little buddy! 225 grain Nosler Accubond at 2560 fps. Not bench rest, but a solid 1 moa gun. Remington 700 SPS, Douglas #4 contour 24", Leupold MKIV 3.5-10.
An Indiana Deer's worst nightmare. 2" high@100 - 0@200 - 4" low@300 - 10-12"@400. The most amazing thing is that it's energy stays almost consistant with it's velocity!

what calibers is that. those are the numbers im looking for. if its moa at 300yds thats a dead deer, and 6 inches drop from 100 zero is much better than what i have now

358WSSM. I'm sory, havent had time to shoot it enough to say too much. I'm going off data from others. Looks to be promising in the accuracy area. I'm getting about .75moa at 100 and 1 moa at 200. Haven't tried it out any farther. i will post results when I do.

.358BFG, Ill be building one this year. Launching 225NABs @ 2600+ makes for a damn sure impressive whitetail killer.

My builder has now built about 20 of these rifles. None of them are shooting over one moa as far as I am aware. It is a very neat cartridge. Brass is best derived from 243WSSM. RCBS has the dies in production from their custom area. Mine should be coming in anytime. After that I will be able to tell you exactly what this rifle will do. I didn't build it to be a benchrest gun. One moa was adequate. The gun is light, accurate, hard hitting, and a pleasure to shoot! Pretty simple set-up..factory Remington SPS, factory trigger set at 1-3/4 lb.,Douglas#4 24" barrel, EGW 20minute base, Leupold 4-12 MkIV scope and rings. Nutin' Fancy.
