Right now there is a giant party in Tehran as “security forces” start to clamp down.
But who are the security forces going to follow?

WHO or what will emerge. Iran has not had a shakeup like this in 45 years. It’s people want to end the theocracy. And any to “play” in the world… they have smart phones and laptops and western “friends” on Facebook and Twitter.
Think of what happened to East Germany when they let in “just a bit” of the West. Now imagine what is going on when kids who will get whipped or beaten for holding hands with their girlfriend… see a chance to seize western freedom.
Not saying it will end that way. Or even well. But the people in Iran don’t want to be a terrorist pariah state.

He was a nothing. "The President of Iran" is meaningless. So is their "Parliament", and everyone in it. So is their "Judicial System", and all the judges and lawyers in it. None of them have any power or are in actual control of anything. It's a vapid illusion. They're just there carry out the will of the Supreme Leader and to fool morons into believing that it is any kind of "Republic", Islamic or otherwise, and has any kind of popular support.
Iran is an absolute Monarchy, like all leftist systems. It is much more absolute than when the Pahlavi's ruled. All power rests with the Supreme Leader and his "Guardian Council" constitutionally. The council is basically half Imam's "expert in Islamic Law", and half just a collection of the cronies of the Supreme Leader.
Eliminating all of the actors pretending to be in service to this "Islamic Republic" would change ZERO. You have to kill the king, and everyone who has the faintest idea understands that.

BUT the security apparatus is generally run at lower levels. So there is a small chance that the country could go 'full-Mussolini" against the theocracy.

At a certain point, the Durka-Durka-Mohammed Jihad folks can't stop a rising tide. That said, they could try and protect their theocracy by killing a lot of 'revolutionary' young folks who want a more Western-oriented government. Can they kill their way out of this? Yeah, probably. It doesn't take more than a few tens-of-thousands dead to suppress a rebellion. And that would be chump change to them.
But it's possible. Possible. Likely? I give it about a 60-40 chance of success... with 40 going to a new birth of Iran. But that's not great odds.
Mostly, I see new suppression and no better life for the people. They are bent on becoming a nuclear power and will kill everyone (especially their own people_ to get there. Once they have the capability... they are far more radical than even NK. They aren't beyond exporting devices to turn the world into ashes.
So this is a bit of a 'last ditch' effort to keep a first world capitol from being turned into plasma.
We'll see.
