My grand plan is to buy the new ATACR on my Stiller 338 and replacing my PST with a 5.5-22 MIL NXS on my 308. Just curious if the arrival of the new ATACR with much better glass has pushed the used market price of the NXSs down enough to justify still buying one. From what I've read, the glass on the ATACR is far superior to the NXS. If the price difference is only $400-$500, it might be smarter to just buy 2 ATACRs

I still like my NXS models and I don't see the prices really dropping simply because they are still hard to beat as far as reliability and good glass. I know after looking through my 5.5-22 for a while and switching over to the ATACR it is like going high definition, I don't think it's so much a clarity difference but the colors are so much brighter.

Yeah, if the street prices for the ATACR stay in the $2200-$2300 range and the market for the NXSs stay around $1600, I'll probably stick to the plan. I got a chance to shoot with a NXS last year and I can't say I was impressed with the clarity and eye box over my Vortex PST. It was a little better clarity wise, but not $1000 better. I don't want to get the ATACR and find myself really disappointed with a NXS.

The introduction of the ATACR has in fact hurt the resale value of the NXS line.

Before the ATACR came to market a seller could pretty easily get within $100 of retail for their NXS but now it's nothing to see them listed for $1550/shipped, and in like new condition.

In fact, the 5.5-22x56 HS/ZS MOAR I sold last month was in pristine condition and I wound up having to take less than I wanted for it at $1650, and it was only 6 months old.

    Why?

Because it's difficult, if not impossible, for some shooters to justify paying close to retail for an NXS when you get a good deal on the ATACR from a Hide vendor, with the glass being so much better than the NXS.

I zeroed up my ATACR on the GAP Harbinger which is now in an APO Mod 1 chassis... I really like this scope, even with it being SFP there are some things I am doing where it doesn't matter and it fits the bill nicely.

Now I just need the CO weather to cooperate with me so I can get outside, the snow & rain is getting old already.

I agree that my ATACAR is a great scope. My NXS's are great as well. There is a very big gap in price point between the 2, $600 to $800 difference. For many shooters this is a totally different price range. The next level if you will. I have 2 or 3 NXS scopes I will be selling as I am trying to get a standard scope between my couple of target rifles.

I want an ATACR bad and really second Lowlight on the weather here in Colorado, more snow tomorrow, maybe a foot, enough already

But I thought global warming was out of control?!?! It is supposed to freeze here in OK this week again after last weeks ice storm. And the models are showing another possible freeze around Tuesday next week!

On a related note... I think the nxs prices are starting to get where they should have been pre ATACR. It blows my mind how many people buy used nxs on here for what they can get a brand new one just by calling a few hide vendors.

I do agree the glass is quite a bit better but it would depend on what reticle a person likes, if someone runs a particular Nightforce reticle and it's not available in the ATACR then I could see going with the NXS just to keep them the same. REgardless the NXS is still a great scope and I won't be getting rid of mine any time soon.
