I'm ready to purchase a krestel and wanted your guys input on which model will work best when used in conjunction with FTE?

Another question I have.... How do you set up FTE to use Density Altitude? I'm not seeing.

Thanks for any and all advice given (I know this topic has been covered but a lot of the threads covering this debate are outdated).

DA is under "current atmosphere" in FTE.
I use DA from a Kestrel 4000 In the Shooter app.

I was thinking 4500 and at one time 4500 w/atrag just to knock out the clutter of two devices... still on the fence here.

I have yet to see in any thread why 4500 and not 4000 as a minimum. The only difference I can tell is the compass which isn't necessary unless you need to do orienteering. If someone can point out a needed feature that the 4500 has and the 4000 doesn't I'm curious to know...

Either will work fine, I just prefer the 4500. From the Kestrel WWW;

In addition to the Kestrel 4000's extensive list of capabilities, the Kestrel 4500 has these distinct monitoring functions:

•Digital Compass
•Wind Direction
•Crosswind
•Headwind / Tailwind

That makes sense. The compass probably enables those features as well. Thank you for the clarification...

Ebay man... I just picked up a NIB 4000NV for $150. I've seen new 4500NV go for as low as $180. It's one of those things though that you'd have to watch and wait...

I figured... time is not on my side (I got a shoot coming up in SD and would like to familiarize myself with these gadgets).

Re: kestrel 4000 or 4500 used with FTE?

If I can have one in my hand before the end of the month I'll be in good shape. I'm leaning towards the 4500nv with atrag to cut down on all unforeseeable bullshit (transmitting data to my iphone). Going rate looks to be $589 shipped.

For that price it better work and work consistently

Re: kestrel 4000 or 4500 used with FTE?

Yeah man that model you'll be hard pressed to find slightly used. I'll keep an eye out and hit you up if I see one...

Re: kestrel 4000 or 4500 used with FTE?

much appreciated. I'm looking around to see if anybody has package deals (i.e tripod, usb interface, ect...).

No point in getting in this game and doing shit half ass... gotta pay to play.
