trying to set up my bil's labradar. we turned it on, screen lit up, and we were going thru some set up. then (with no card ever in it) started blinking blue at various speeds, and also screen went blank. turning it off and on again, blinking blue but screen is totally blank. any ideas? of course they're closed today, saturday...

Brand new unit? Fresh batteries (or better, external power brick)? Sounds like it's dead on arrival. I'm a retired IT guy... if electronic stuff is going to fail early, it usually fails REALLY early. Bummer. First I've ever heard of this with LR.

yep brand new. turned on seemed ok for a little bit while setting up. then blue light was blinking (a card was never insterted, at least to that point) then started fast blinking, sos blinking, and screen went blank. never put in batteries, attached an external brick.

Sounds stupid but check the external pack's connection. My LR was turning off and traced it back to a bad connection on the pack. Replaced it and all is well.

we did play around with the wires/connections. it seems like it is def on (various blinking blue light patterns), just nothing on the screen. when unplugged or shut off, the blue light goes off, presumably because the unit is off.

One of the recent firmware updates changed something with battery pack use/issues. May be tough to update firmware if it's not booting though.

Maybe run standard batteries and insert SD card. I ran into a similar issue and swapping batteries fixed issue.

I think I had gotten a dud mixed in with freshies and no worky worky... hopefully it's an easy/quick fix.

not sure how to run anything if the screen is blank.

will try it with just fresh batteries and no pack, but again it seemed to be working perfectly for 5-10 minutes then blinking blue then no screen.
The unit gets updated when you turn it on. You don’t need to mess with any menu settings. Insert the SD card with the new firmware and turn unit on. It should update if you say it stays on 5-10 mins.

actually, we did do that (with it off, plugged in chip with updates) then turned it on and nothing different happened (still blank screen and blinking blue).

b-i-l will call them tomorrow and i have an email into them so hopefully we'll get a quick resolution. between the blinking blue light before a card was ever inserted, and the screen blanking out, thinking something really died in there.

with the battery pack fully charged, he powered it up last nite and it seemed to work well. yesterday afternoon we had the partially-charged pack plugged into the wall so figured full juice was getting to the labradar, but guess not.
