Rifle Scopes Leupold Mark 4HD

If anything, more states need to further restrict the technology allowed, especially for muzzleloader and archery hunts.
Interesting you mention this. Nebraska a few years ago started allowing anyone to use a crossbow during archery season. There has been no discernable difference in harvest rate compared to before they were allowed.

Granted, this is not a destination western state with a lot of public, but it's still something to consider.

just placed my order. CST a pleasure to deal with once again.

Will compare this 6-24x Mark4 to a Mark5 7-35x, Razor AMG and Razor LHT i have on hand currently

To follow up on this - the mark4hd glass is on par with the LHT and slightly behind the 7-35x mark5 and AMG. However, this is the best glass of a few 7-35x mark5 I’ve had and has the best overall glass of these 4 scopes. The AMG has the best CA control and FOV. Mark 4 eyebox probably the best of the bunch. Extremely forgiving.

Overall it really is just a slimmed down mark 5. The controls are excellent and feel exactly like the mark 5, just smaller. Windage turret the same as the elevation in quality. Maybe slightly better coatings on the mark5 but once again, that could be sample variation. Hard to tell the difference.

My only complaints are limited FOV, but I knew that going in. It’s very similar to the LHT in that aspect. Also, no caps included by Leupold which is super gay for a $1500 optic. I have extras to use but it’s the principle.

Is the LHT the 4.5-22 FFP version?

That is a pretty resounding review for the Mk4.

Now if Leupy would stop with the dash-dash-dash reticle fetish and use dots like pretty much everyone else…

…thy eyes cannot take it!!!

Second range trip for a 4.5-18 PR2, and I like this optic. As a more average user that can't speak to every tech detail, I think its a better user experience than the Mk5 3.6-18. Its more balanced to the eye, the CDS type big number dial comes on it, and the parallax tuned shockingly well for me.

I was hesitant with the PR2 because the NH1 was my only complaint on a Hensoldt 4-16, with .25 mil increments just not doing doing it for me personally. But I disliked the PR1 on my Mk5 enough to get rid of it, so I figured I'd try the next evolution. I like it. The gapped aim points make sense to my mind thinking in .2 increments, and I like the open top end.

Its a neat optic. First Leupold I've "enjoyed" using in a while.

What did you dislike about the PR1 reticle?

Too thin at mid mag. Had to run and adjust illum when I didn't want to, to compensate. No need for so much hashing up top. Don't get me wrong, it was a step up from the TMR. Not trying to dog that reticle, just explaining my thoughts on the PR2 as it sits in the 4HD.

Agreed on the 6-24x and I’m sure the 4.5-18x mk4 being more enjoyable than the 3.6-18x mk5. Was never a fan of the shorty mk5. Just too many compromises and terrible CA. never saw the appeal besides the compact size. If you can live with a couple more inches and an ounce, then you’re getting a better optic in the mk4 IMHO.

I talked with the leupold guys at an outdoor demo yesterday and got to play with the Mk4’s. I like them, they feel like my Mk5, the controls are nice to use. I think they’re going to be a hit for those with some form of a discount, which is a broad customer base. I talked with them about reticles and they said that it’s likely once they’re passed the first year and able to stock everything that they’ll add more reticle options like they did with the Mk5. I talked with them about updating the TMR option and they were pretty receptive to it and noted that the feedback would make it back to the mothership. Overall really cool dudes, the scopes seem good and I’m hopeful that they’ll continue to flesh out the product line.

Anybody had hands on with the 2.5-10? Thinking about the SFP illuminated 2.5-10 for a 14.5" AR.....

The SFP tmr reticle looks a whole lot thinner and cleaner than the ffp one. I despise the ffp tmr.
Only indoors, but I kinda liked it. I don’t know what you’re expecting though. I believe the SFP TMR is the same as the FFP TMR at full mag. It’s a semi-thick, usable reticle at 2.5x.

Ok on the leupold website the reticles appear quite a bit different. I was hoping they were a true representation as the SFP one looks much nicer. If not I will have to wait for them to add some different reticle options.

I belong in their LE/MIL program and have been trying to get one of several of their Mark5 HD for 2 MONTHS. always says NOT available. Same with their Delta point Pro dots.

Guess they must have geared up for the Mark4 line, although several of those now show out of stock also. There are dealers who apparently have the optics mentiuoned but nothing from the factory..

I believe they stock dealers before they stock their LE/MIL program so some items, usually hot ticket items, are a long wait, you might want to contact some of the Hide dealers who might be able to get close in pricing. CS Tactical, Eurooptic, Cameralandny would be where I'd start...

I just bought a lht for my new hunting rig. Kinda wished I knew about this first. Although I did buy my scope from go hunt so I got a ton of points that went to a pair of Phoenix bags

I’ve got the vortex in that mag range. (Pst genii on a 6arc) best mag range for a small gas gun (in my opinion)

An older vortex 2.5-10 for 399$ is kinda plan B for me, or the 3-15 gen ii, what I wanna know is how the reticules are in the illuminated vs non-illuminated models (mil or moa). I know that in some of their illuminated TMR models the reticule looks like a tree trunk.

So, I saw that the Mk4HD 4.5-18 had the PR2 reticle which seems pretty decent, especially for Leupold. I go to buy an illuminated one and notice that they don’t sell the PR2 with illumination in the 4.5-18. Oh Leupold.

Yeah like no PR2 in the Mark 5, 3 to 18
Thankfully that is an option now. But not illuminated.

I was thinking of switching out my PST G2 5x25 on my rimfire rig with a MK4HD 6-24. Scheels had them in stock so I stopped by Friday to take a look. I got them to get out the Luepold and the PST G2 out of the cabinets so I could look thru them back to back. Unfortunately I was only able to look indoors at a wall about 85-yards away, so really good conditions (no mirage, glare, wind, dust, etc.)

I had a tough time getting the MK4HD to focus on the sign I was looking at but no issues with the PST G2, so at first it looked a lot cleaner. Once I did get the MK4HD to focus, I could not really see a difference between the image sharpness (yes, inside so take that FWIW). Also, shooting rimfire is PRS and NRL so never really go beyond 200 yards. Maybe outdoors at 500+ yards they will separate themselves.

The clicks on the elevation turret were nice and crisp on the PST G2 and very soft on the Leupold. Did not like the feel of them at all. Just mushy and not distinct on the click-click-click...would drive me nuts but that's just me.

Thats good to know, thank you.

So how are the leupold 2.5-10X working out? I am thinking of buying two of them for my scoped AR15s. Mainly shooting steel and occasional coyotes.
Same here.

I was thinking of trying one of these, but I can't find any solid reviews of one. Only the higher mag models.

Mark me down as someone looking for data from anyone who has had the 2.5-10. I'd love some real-world feedback on how it holds up and such. This thing looks like the perfect price-point-to-quality ratio, but need some feedback from anyone who has had it on hikes/hunts/etc.

FWIW, I'm not worried about the lack of parallax adjustment, very few scopes that have a max of 10x or less have that adjustment anyway, so I was never expecting this to include it as well. You can spend $2700 on a S&B 2.5-10 and even that doesn't have a parallax adjustment.

I bought one of the 2.5-10 TMR SFP models. It replaces a 20 year old 3-9 MR/T M2 leupold (that likely would've lasted another 20 years tbh).

Unboxing it I found an allen wrench, battery and bikini covers that are cheap as hell and broke. Great job Leupold would it kill you to give us decent flip ups?

Optically it's good but the lack of parallax adjustment does hurt it a bit. Had to fiddle with the eyepiece a little to get the right focus. I will try it this evening to see how it is in low light.

Their new knob design is very nice. Much easier to get the allens in there and lock it down.

Shot it today. Zeroed without any real problems. Seems to track adjustment wise vs the reticule. After it was zeroed I shot it a bit and wiggled the elevation knob a few times to see if it would fuck up and it held zero Illumination isn't daytime bright but it works well and has an auto on-off feature.

Overall it's an improved version of the scope I had on the rifle previously.

I fished the illuminated FFP 2.5-10x42 Mark 4HD out of the mail today. No real testing yet. Illuminated TMR is an aging reticle design, but what I plan to use it for, it is not a bad option.
Image quality looks quite good now that I have finally been able to take a look at it indoors and outdoors.
I am mixed on whether I miss sidefocus or not. Depth of field is pretty good. For a crossover hunting/SPR scope, it should work fine for me in the 50 to 600 yard range, but I need to spend some time shooting with it first.

Could you compare and contrast this scope to the NXS 2.5-10x42 and credo 2-10? Doesn't have to be too in depth, I think many would appreciate some quick thoughts on such a comparison.

I know that would be mixing FFP and SFP, but for my uses I don't really care about that. There aren't many many mil/mil mid-power scopes weighing approx 20 oz on the market (and even fewer from reputable companies). I'm just wondering what the state of that segment is the market is. Even some of the smaller 3-15 scopes come in at 26+ ounces and are quite large for a carbine. IMO, the difference in handling between a carbine with a 20oz 2-10 and 26-30oz 3-15x is significant.

Will be interesting to hear your thoughts on the TMR for a crossover scope and whether illumination is worth the $200. At $999 (or less) the 2.5-10×42 is pretty well priced.

That really comes down to whether you spend a lot of time in low light with it. TMR is a nicely visible reticle, but in low light against a dark target, illumination clearly helps. Played with it yesterday.

Sign up for the email notification and then you have to be purchasing it within about 10 minutes of that notification or they dissapear.

Mine came into stock at about 8pm one night and after I purchased it was gone by 8:12

Took me 15 months before I scored my 3.6-18 pr1 illuminated I wanted for my 7ss hunting rifle I built. Countless times I would get the email and by the time I logged in it wasn’t there. Never stressed it to badly cause I was waiting 13 months for the krieger for the build.

When I was trying to get a T3 Mk5HD 3.6-18, I finally emailed them after waiting for months. They replied they should be available soon and I think it was either that evening or the next day it was available.

I’m not sure if it was a coincidence, or they threw one up on their site because I asked about it.
