The one that goes bang every time!
But seriously, I'm not going to elevate one brand over another. You really should go to a range and rent or shoot as many different models as you can. The best pistol for you is the one that fits your hands & eyes.
Things to consider:
Safety:
Frame safety(1911), Slide safety(Beretta), Mag Safety(S&W, some Europeans), or No safety(Glock, Sig, Revolver)
Trigger:
Double Action only(DAK, LEM, Glock=same medium length trigger pull every time), Single Action Only(1911=same light trigger pull every time), DA/SA(long 1st pull, light pull until mag is empty)
Action:
Revolver
Semi-Auto
Caliber:
Big & Slow(.44 Spl, .45 ACP-my personal choice), Small & Fast(9mm, .38 Super), or in-between (.40 S&W)
Capacity:
Single Stack, Double Stack, 5 or 6 rounds in a wheel
Sights:
Night sights, laser, holographic red dot
Whatever your choice, practice practice practice. Use snap caps in your garage and try several different excersizes to hone your skills. Simply owning a gun does not make one armed......
Whichever brand you choose, put at least 500 rounds through it and see what ammo/mags she likes, and if there are inherint problems, they will usually surface here.
H&K, S&W, Sig, Beretta, Glock, 1911, Springfield; they will all serve you well, and all companies have lemons.
