I was out in the desert brushing up my skills on whistle pigs with my 10/22 and came across some other folks doing the same. One of them said that I should be really careful with the scope that I have because it was a "collectors" item. The scope is a Lyman Alaskan 2 1/2 power with a single tapered post and fine wire cross hair recticle. Now that I've looked at it close I see it does have a low serial # (only three digits). I've had this scope for more than 30 years, it came with a rifle I bought which the guy I bought it from said his father had made for a hunt in Europe before WW1. I still have the rifle as well is is a beauty and my regular elk hunting companion. It is a J.P Sauer & Sons 30 USG with a 1906 Mauser bolt action, beautiful engraving double set trigger, short octagon barrel that tapers into round. It's a true Alps mountain rifle. Anyway the scope came on that. My question is, should I not be dinking around with that scope, is it really collectible?
Thanks in advance for any insights.
