Called to check the status of 3 suppressors that I have been waiting on for over a yr and was told they were denied due to dealer signature. The lady let me speak with the examiner and she explained to me that they no longer take digital signatures and that Silencer Shop got a letter telling them that and ALSO was granted an extension, yet they kept submitting the paperwork that way. So now, I have to go back thru another year of waiting because of something silencer shop didn’t do and knew they should do. I am beyond livid abt it.

I agree that Silencershop needs to address this issue. I have one in jail for 7 months now, I really don’t want to go through another year of waiting.

I talked to them about two of mine that are in the November time frame. They said those were correctly signed. Looks like some of it is dependent on the dealer themselves. Many have been corrected, sounds like examiners are just kicking them instead of trying to correct them like they should. But sounds like there have been so many coming in wrong that the ATF is making a point. Like the signature actually really means anything.

I got an email response back from a person with "NFA compliance" as there title she got back to me a couple days after I sent the email. I bet there forwarding these issues to her.

Hey, tlsmith22.

We are sorry to hear about your conversation with the BAFTE. Unfortunately, not all information was shared with you and some is inaccurate.

  1. Digital signatures are supported by the BAFTE. Some formats are considered unsupported by BATFE, but are legal and valid everywhere else.
  2. Normally, the BATFE would submit an error correction letter instead of a disapproval, and in this case, that is not what happened.
  3. The vast majority of applications are not impacted by this issue and are being approved as fast as the NFA branch can.
  4. We share in your frustration and value the trust you place in us, as it is paramount! We have already submitted a formal appeal to the ATF in addition to re-submitting all denied forms.
  5. This is a great example of why an excess of 60% of F4 applicants use Silencer Shop. We have a dedicated compliance team, lawyers, and lobbyists all fighting to make sure your second amendment rights are protected. Period.
As updates are available, we will keep you informed. If you ever need anything, you may always contact us directly. We are here to help!

Sincerely,

Your Silencer Shop Compliance Team

I left numerous messages with the compliance dept today and never got a return phone call. If they have been denied by the ATF, is our only option resubmittal and wait another 8 months to a yr?

I want to issue a formal apology to the guys at Silencer Shop, seems I didn’t give them time to get around to notifying me. Please see updated in other denied form 4 thread.

I want to offer a formal apology to the guys at silencer shop. It seems I didn’t give them time to contact me and give me an update before I bashed them. I feel they have our best interest at heart and are working to resolve this. Please see my post in the other Form 4 denied thread.

im not going to be a complete ass about it, but there is a reason i stopped using SS even back before the SilencerCo and Deadair dropping them as dealers. SS screwed up one of my Form 4s way back when and then on a separate occasion i was not pleased with some in-store interactions i'd had.

buddy out of OK had a bad time with them on like 4 cans or something. I deal with Capital armory now.

I’ll be the opposite and say I’m on my 3rd can from SS now and haven’t had a single thing go wrong. Waiting to see if my 22 takedown got caught up in this denial mess as the check cleared in Jan and SS handled my form 4 through a single shot trust.

I emailed the Silencer Shop (via website contact form) this afternoon to check my order status, noting my concern over signature issues.

I received a reply back within 30 minutes stating all was good.

Can't think of the last time I received a response that fast via a website contact form. (y)

I received a call back from my voice mail left with them. They checked my serial number and documents and were able to verify my dealer used handwritten signatures. So giving them credit for their responsiveness.

Same here. I called and they verified my Form 4 was good to go. A shooting buddy just got his approved Trust Form 4 back from a checked cash date Nov 7th 2018. Hopefully mine from Nov 14th will be along any day now.

I think the folks at Silencer Shop have put a tremendous amount of effort into making the difficult process of buying a can as painless as it can possibly be. Sure it benefits their business model, but it benefits you and I as well. This isn't buying a box of cereal off the shelf at Walmart. The government is involved. No telling how many thousands of stamps they process every day. All of us screw up at times. The only difference is, there's no one hollering on the internet in front of millions of people when you do make a mistake.

Give them a break. Geez.

If this was directed at me, I based what i said on what the NFA agent told me personally. I also issued a formal apology in this thread to SIlencer Shop and also on the phone when I talked to them.

What I also failed to mention was that these cans were purchased August 8th, SS forget to sent the paperwork in until October when I called and asked abt them. Then I wait a year and find out that they were denied for an issue that the NFA said was their fault. I think I had every right o be upset, yet I still have given them the benefit of the doubt that they are giving it a valiant effort to fix it.
