That is the fact that all our comments reflect on the gun-owning community as a whole. There is stuff here that makes 200 million Americans look like exactly the trash that the anti-gun people... think we all are. If we want to keep our rights, we best not act like the dangerous hateful people that some accuse us of being. Self-fulfilling prophecies often self-fulfill. And it only takes a couple of idiots to make a whole community look evil and/or dangerous. Or just plain retarded.

I spent 30 years as a recruiter. Essentially a glorified sales job. And there are many ways to impart an idea. Each creating a mental image. My mentor referred to it as painting a picture with words. That picture can be ugly or attractive. I learned to tailor those presentations to my specific audience. My point being that while we may think we on this site are only communicating with likeminded people, I can assure everyone there are more than a couple of passive observers who are not. And I am sure they pass their observations on painting a picture of us and our ideals in a less than flattering manner.

Looking back on my posts I’m certainly not without fault. But looking to the future I think I will be more careful in choosing my topics and words.

Personalities can come across a little "rough and tumble" in the areas and topics we deal with on this site (Bear Pit, or outside of it). I do believe that most here have good intentions in some form or fashion.

Doesn't matter what I believe. Only thing that matters is what direction the owner of this establishment wants to take. If the CO says tone it down, it would probably be wise to do so. Let us start with payment processors that browse forums that they service then refuse same service when they find content that they find objectionable. The majority of people who frequent social media, or Internet forums are at best, unlikely to change their long held opinions or firmly entrenched beliefs due to a contradictory post. That being said, our “image” as firearms enthusiasts will no more be damaged by online comments than manure on a pig.
There is also validation in the argument that there is nothing wrong with being offended. Because without discomfort there cannot be change.

The best argument for the 1st amendment is that the least intelligent among us will seek to use their freedom of speech the most.

This makes stupid people easy to spot.

I come to this forum as a consumer of information. And there is a lot more useful information than I could ever hope to use in my lifetime available in this forum. This is because, I think most members of this forum realize the value of this tool. And if a few trolls need to be banned in order for the forum to maintain its usefulness to its members, then so be it.

Yesterday I saw a clear example of the kind of character and integrity that some people here have.

Sometime back, when a bunch of us got together and sent flowers and condolences to Frank's dad's funeral I spotted some guys who didn't use PayPal with the understanding that they'd catch me up by mail or whatever.
I didn't really keep a log on who and how much, because I knew I was dealing with good people with good intentions.
Yesterday, I received a package in the mail. There was an apology note explaining that they had let the $20 slip their mind and they were sending it along with some "interest".

They could have easily thought, "If he hasn't asked for it by now, he must have forgotten about it.", but that's not the kind of person they are.
