@Tucker301 said something important this week... and I think it is reflected in LL's comments and concerns... and admonitions.
That is the fact that all our comments reflect on the gun-owning community as a whole. There is stuff here that makes 200 million Americans look like exactly the trash that the anti-gun people... think we all are. If we want to keep our rights, we best not act like the dangerous hateful people that some accuse us of being. Self-fulfilling prophecies often self-fulfill. And it only takes a couple of idiots to make a whole community look evil and/or dangerous. Or just plain retarded.
There is a big difference between 'socially unacceptable humor' that we all understand is satire... and some of the abject attacks as demonstrated, in disgusting form, in yesterday's Notre Dame thread. And those making those assertions and spewing hate aren't just speaking for themselves... they are acting out, in public, the caricature that the anti-gun community thinks we all represent and 'are.'
Debate, conjecture, historical context, reasonably-enunciated anger (at the swamp that is government or other institutions)... even satire and dark humor have a place. Pure vitriol has no place here. Or, really, anywhere. Except the local Klavern, I suppose. I wouldn't know.
As Constitution-and-fellow-human-being-loving Americans...we are better than that. And we best show that gun owners and shooting enthusiasts are the cream of America. Not the dregs.
Just my 2 percent of a dollar, YMMV, Offer not valid on Guam, Your mileage may Vary, not available in all states, etc. etc. blah blah blah.
