ive been doing martial arts on and off for years......90% of them are bullshit.

the only ones that are actually worth a damn are Krav Maga and MMA......they are simple and common sense....frankly if you learn to throw a decent punch, a solid knee, and know what it feel like to receive a solid punch and a good knee....you are going to be FAR better off than any "black belt" in any of the traditional martial arts.

ive straight up walked out of Jujitsu classes when the instructor couldnt throw me.....and his reasoning was "well youre resisting and not letting me throw you".....no shit.

i practice Krav for hand to hand combatives.....and Defensive rifle and defensive pistol as my weapon combative.
The problem is not martial arts in general, it is the application. That said some of them are generaly practiced much harder than others. I took multiple martial arts before MMA was a thing and turned them into a style that worked for me. I studied Jeet Kune Do and that opened my eyes to the fact that a punch is just a punch and a kick is just a kick. I like Muay Thai for conditioning and contact training. Kali/Escrima for weapons, and Brazillian jj for grappling. Stepoing into a Muay Thai sparring ring and full contact stick fighting is an eye opening experience that encourages you to improve or pack it up and leave. You will not find that in most strip mall karate studios.
