My younger brother (Badmojo) took this Mulie this last week with a 6.5 Grendel he built him self. Shooting Precision Firearms Ammo, loaded with the Nolser 120gr Ballistic Tip's in brass head stamped .264 LBC. The ammo is incredibly accurate out of his 16" M4 contour Alexander Arms barrel. The 2-7X Vortex scope with the BDC matches the ballistic of this load almost perfectly. The shot was broadside at 493 yards, he had a little more wind drift than anticipated and the bullet impacted center of the lungs about 6 inches out of the pocket. The ballistic tip did not hit a rib going in and completely passed through the buck at this distance. The buck tried to keep his feet under him for 30 seconds or so before he went down.

Anymore photos of that buck? I chase the little California blacktail and am always in awe at the body size of a big mule deer.

Here are several bucks taken within 600 yards or so of the one posted above, these are about the average size of mature mulies in our area. Hanging weight, skinned and field dressed runs about 205-215 lbs.

This buck was taken the second day of this season Oct 17th.

This buck I shot several years ago in the same place as the two above.

Nice deer, guessing say 2500 mv in the 16" bbl, impact was around 1670-1700 fps, how much expansion did you notice, and internal damage? Do you know the twist on your bbl?

Thanks.

I really like the 6.5's, I have Pacific Tool and Gauge building me a reamer right now. It's a cross between a 25 Souper and a .257 DGR but necked up to 6.5. I'm going to use .243 Lapua brass to fire form them. Blow the shoulder out with a slightly shorter neck and a 32% shoulder for smoother feeding.

That almost looks like Mannsfield or Waterville area??? Hard to tell from the pics, could be as far over as moses hole... I've been thinking about building a 6.5 upper, should would be alot lighter than humpin around a 15lb. .308..... Nice 509 mulie.. J.

Tell your brother "nice f...ing shot"

I just ordered the last of the goodies needed to put together my 16" AA 6.5G on Friday, and this pic is pumping me up! I'll take a look at that Vortex and ammo here in just a bit.

Thanks for sharing,

-Pat
