If it isn’t made with Martha White Corn meal mix with Hot Rise and REAL buttermilk in a well seasoned cast iron skillet then it isn’t cornbread. We are done here…

Wife's father would eat cornbread with milk for supper every night, nothing else. Wife uses the Jiffy mix in the bag, different flavors for different meals/moods. It's all good to me. I like some sugar in my cornbread, mo better IMO.

Some people add sugar, shits just corn cake

One of the favorite meals for old ladies in these parts to make, is cook a massive pot of pinto beans and serve plain with the driest (unsweet) cornbread possible.

I'm sure it was once considered a delicacy as everyone originally from here is dirt poor, but it takes some serious willpower to choke down.

They like unsweetened tea in these parts too...communists.

Add yellow cake mix.
Sweet golden goodness from Jesus himself.

Not taking culinary advice from fuckers that eat grits.
Sand hominy with poor.
Also known to associate with cousins.

I’ve also eaten my fair share of cornbread this way as well. My grandmother made this regularly when I was young

Sweet cornbread is actually a Southern thing- like adding cane molasses, dipping in honey, hushpuppies if you fry it, etc...

The unsweet cornbread is the Northern style.

You're ass-backwards, homey.
That the first thing you have said on this forum correctly that I can agree with on!:ROFLMAO: Are you ok?

I don’t know, man. My grandparents were born in rural Arkansas(but I repeat myself) and they only ever made unsweetened cornbread. I’m sure both ways have been made in every region of the country

Cornbread is one of those things that people tend to ruin, kind of like pork chops or a good salmon filet. They don’t have to be cooked to being as dry as an old nun to be considered edible. Moist, sweet cornbread is pretty awesome. Dry cornbread is pig food. Comfort food for me is big chunk of homemade cornbread tossed on top of a big bowl of hearty beef stew.

Yep.

This is because (like rural SE Oklahoma), nobody had the money to go and buy things like honey and sugar often.

It has less to do with region, and more to do with means.

I had a lot of different style of cornbread and the ones that sucks is using cake mix variety.

Now lets talk about whats good with it.
Lil smokies with a tooth pick jabbed in dipped in cornbread batter (old fashion type) and dropped in deep fryer (peanut oil)for couple minutes. Delicious!

I speak the truth- and a lot of it.

Commie feelings get hurt, and they either accept the collapse of their narrative or push their heads further into the sand... which only leaves their big, round behinds all to me!!!

NOW- what motivation did OP have for generating this cornbread fraud, and how does it help accelerate the decline of the United States? Why would his handlers in the Kremlin direct him to make this post?

This thread reminds me of the first breakfast with the OMW (Original Missus Walter), a Southern Girl from West Point, MS.

Me - pours milk and sugar on grits
her - "What in fuck are you doing? It's not oatmeal!" her throws bowl down the drain, refills with grits, butter, black pepper
me - dumps that shit out, gets new bowl, more grits, more milk, more sugar
her - "fuckin' Yankees! My momma warned me and i didn't listen!' walks away.
me - 40 years later - fills bowl with grits, adds butter and black pepper "yummy"
I still speak with the OMW, but haven't told her I have "found the light."

There’s zero reason to use a mix it’s 3 dry ingredients.

Cornbread also shouldn’t be full of flour, that’s yankee BS. Cornbread should be corn meal and it should crumble

@david walter I am glad you found the light. Took my wife a bit, but she also figured it out.

Very similar situation, but I said "It ain't cream of wheat."

Ugh, you people sicken me 😆 I’m glad you turned your life around.

…Cheese grits aren’t correct, but for supper they are good as hell.

Pintos or butter beans and cornbread is the best lol. Nah, yea needs to be dark and sweet.

putting shit on cornbread isn’t putting a cup of sugar and flour in the cornbread before cooking making it cake. I eat beans on cornbread, but they don’t go in it.
