Yep.

This is because (like rural SE Oklahoma), nobody had the money to go and buy things like honey and sugar often.

It has less to do with region, and more to do with means.
Finally someone with some sense.

I make my cornbread with white sugar. Cook it so it's still moist in the middle and not a dry crumbly shitty mess. Serve with super soft butter and enjoy.

Don't like it? Feel free to head over to Golden Arches and see if their hospitality is any better than mine.

El Oh El wouldn’t show up for either. Luckily in the US you have the freedom to be wrong.

That just reads “I don’t know how to correctly cook cornbread and it’s done when it’s sand”

Speaking of cornbread pairings…

Greens taste like actual hot garbage smells I don’t get it.
That’s something that definitely needs to be cooked in like bacon fat or even coconut oil. That way it slides right out of the pan and into the garbage and doesn’t leave a huge mess

No sugar in the cornbread here.

Stone ground cornmeal, salt, baking powder, melted butter, 1-2 eggs, and buttermilk.

Melt about 3 tablespoons of butter in your iron skillet.

Pour that into your cornmeal, add beaten egg(s), 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon salt, and enough buttermilk to make a stiff wet mix.

Melt another 3-4 tablespoons of butter in the iron skillet at about 375 F. Add the batter to the hot skillet, poured directly into the butter.

Bake until about 190 degrees in the center. That will keep it moist in the middle, but still cooked through.

One cannot remain unsurprised.

Arguing and casting shade upon each other over cornbread.

CORNBREAD!

Definitely a first world problem. But it speaks to the tendency of humans to fight. We are a warring species. Our most successful industry is war.

And concrete, evidently. As well as cornbread.

Don’t forget bench presses-which I’m pretty sure I can bench more than you😉

I'm framing this part and going to put it up in the house for my wife to see it.

She won't agree with you.

Probably most of the members here won't either.

We often start these threads just to argue, this one is tame

First recipe so far and it isn't even a real recipe that Yankees can follow. How much cornmeal? At least translate it fully for the rest of us.

Cornbread with honey, maple syrup or peaches is a dessert for us. My 91 year old father grows open pollinated corn and Einkorn wheat on his small farm that my wife grinds into flour with her stone grinder, uses my dear departed mother’s recipe and then turns it into the most delicious cornbread that I’ve had. It comes out of the oven a little more brown than yellow due to the wheat flour added. She says she’ll make me some tomorrow 😍

Cornbread must be love food.

Here is a true story.
I was 18, making good money, and happily single. Lived with my family, way out in the country, not a house in sight.
One lovely friday evening I'm home alone, playing Command and Conquer, when i hear a knock at the door. Hmm, never heard a car come up the drive….. answer the door, and there with the biggest smile she can muster, is the girl that lives a mile up the road, holding a platter with a big HEART SHAPED CORNBREAD! “Hi Makinchips, i brought you a gift. And walked over to give it to you.”

I was speachless! Not sure why i did it but i reached out, took the cornbread, and said “thanks”.

She then asks me “can i come in and visit?”

my mind was racing, and the only thing that came out of my mouth was “sorry i have to go to town and i was just leaving. Thanks and Bye.”

I headed to town, wondering if i did the right thing, wondering if the cornbread was good. Hoping i wouldnt regret my decision, i pressed on towards town….

…i never regretted my decision…

Glad i didnt fall for the girl with heart shaped cornbread, cause my family tried tasting that stuff she brought over and they said it was disgusting.

She eventually found a husband, i see her in town from time to time with all her dirty kids and miserable looking husband. And when i see them i think “i wonder if they actually enjoy her cornbread…”

Now i have a wonderful wife and daughters that make delicious cornbread, and bake it in a round grizwold skillet.

If some lady brought young me a heart shaped cornbread I’d have the decency to atleast give her a nice fingering, respectfully.

Respectfully, no. She was a year younger than me…. And i don't enjoy handcuffs, fluffy or not.

And the cornbread was so bad the dog wouldn't even eat it!

Trust me.

Edit: one of the few times the teenage me made the right decision. Lol

I have had it with sweet corn mixed in, and I was actually surprised that it was pretty good.

Now here's a twist......fried corn meal mush with maple syrup on it. I haven't had it since I was a kid, but I remember it was delicious.
