Rifle Scopes New Schmidt & Bender PM2 6-36x56

What were your impressions of the 5-45x? I spent some time with one a couple years ago and I kind of struggled with it, but that could have just been the way it was mounted. Just couldn’t get comfortable behind it and it had a significantly higher price tag than the ZCO 5-27x. The main reason I got this 6-36x, besides just to compare it with the ZCO and Vortex 6-36x, is that it wasn’t exorbitantly expensive like the 5-45x.

Both these scopes are new to me (went from Kahles/Leica) and this was my second time behind the 5-45, hence I dont quite feel like I can make a black/white judgement quite yet.

But my experience thus far is that the 5-45 definitely do the job for ELR shooting. I liked the LRR-Mil reticle and found myself to use the upper range of zoom on most of the targets, spotted most of my hits and misses, also on the farthest target(all of them, misses that is..!). Should be noted that conditions were good, low humidity and temp.

I had no issues getting comfortable behind the 5-45, but I must admit that I think the 6-36 has a more forgiving eyebox and the glass is as good as, or might be better than this 5-45.

I paid less for the 5-45 than the 6-36 new, got really lucky and snagged one from a dealer blowing out demos. For the price, I would say the 6-36 is a better deal, unless you really want the extra magnification.

Mine showed up today, mounted it on a BAT TR, and gave it a quick whirl. First time out with this rifle too.

New gun, new scope and some fun... 😀

Nice! How are you liking this S&B in comparison to your TT collection? I really like that ret. Im on the fence of another TT or this 6-36. How are you liking the 1/2 cm clicks too?
Fit and finish is like any other S&B. Going to take it out again now to my 100 yd indoor range and take a little bit closer scrutiny of the scope. So far I'm liking it. Though after their 30% price increases I thought i was going to be done with S&B. Think I'm addicted! I'm due the new Tangent soon as it hits eurooptic by the way.. 😀

Ok, now have a good couple hours with this scope at the range. This one feels like a bit of a step-up from what I’m used to. Eyebox is very forgiving, especially when at full magnification, and clarity is superb (in bright daylight it rivals the Hensoldt Spotter60). Is it a better scope than the ZCO 5-27x? Hard to say, but they’re definitely on the same level. At this point I would suggest it comes down to personal preference on reticles and turrets, for the most part. I struggled a bit with my ZCO but others I know with the same model don’t have same issues, so I always assumed it was me. With mine the parallax has always been a little funky (very non-linear) and I struggled with the eyebox at full magnification, but maybe mine’s just out of spec?

Either way, the S&B 6-36x is definitely good to go in my book. Expensive, yes. Mine is mounted on a switch barrel rifle, so “one scope, many rifles” mindset applies. If you’re indifferent about reticles and turrets, then it’s probably best to save a bit of money, but if you prefer DT35s or DII+ for example, then get one.

this is great to hear. Cant wait to get my hands on one, maybe 2 of them. I knew this thing was going to be a hit as soon as i got behind the pre-production one.

Battery cap...

Just got a reply back from S&B Germany...

Yes, this is a new battery-cap which we have to provide for Australian and New Zealand customers.

This requirement is government mandated: AU & NZ standard AS/NZS 60065:2018.

Regular we assembled these on all AU & NZ scopes

Thoughts on the new P5FL reticle to those who've used it vs P4FL or MSR2. I have the RAL 6-36 P5FL on order, hoping it's not too fine.
I just received my 6-36 PM II with the P5FL. I had the P4FL on my 5-25 for the last 10 years and aways loved it. I feel the same about the P5FL.
BTW, this scope has something that I have never seen on anything else. The Illumination is day light visible.

My opinion the 5-45x56 PMII overall it is still the top. Probably also the 6-36, but I've never tried it.
The LRR-MIL is exceptional for precision long range.
I really like the ZCOs, but as reticles they are a step behind S&B. For PRS they are good, but over long distances they cover too much.

this tbh. I love Schmidt's turret and reticle options. Nothing too gaudy outside of tremor reticles which no one really likes anyways

This is my Pantone 3-27..

How's the glass in that 327 vs the 636
To be truthful ....optically the 3-27 is the worst scope i own ( and have owned) ..Sharpness and resolution in the centre are OK, but towards the outer peripheral its terribly soft..

The 6-36 is in a completely different league !!! Sharpness and resolution are superb from centre to outer peripheral !!! As i have stated its the best optic i have so far owned!!
