Rifle Scopes New Schmidt & Bender PM2 6-36x56

To be truthful ....optically the 3-27 is the worst scope i own ( and have owned) ..Sharpness and resolution in the centre are OK, but towards the outer peripheral its terribly soft..

The 6-36 is in a completely different league !!! Sharpness and resolution are superb from centre to outer peripheral !!! As i have stated its the best optic i have so far owned!!
I agree. I took the 3-36x56 out for a spin and it's great. All the things I pretty much hated about the 3-27x56 are not an issue with the new scope.

Schmidt just dropped prices across the board, in case anyone took a peep at Eurooptic.
More so than the price drop a couple weeks ago? Schmidt did this very thing about 5-6 years ago, they slowly priced themselves out of the market and then did US price drops, they were starting to do the same again but even more so, so this is welcome relief and makes the Schmidt’s more palatable again, especially the 6-36

Yeah. With the 10% discount from hide dealers and no tax in some cases.

Im going to end up ripping my hair out going back and forth between what i want.

So this thing is really that good huh? Fucking hell.

I think im just gonna eeny meeny minie mo between a ZCO527 and 6-36 PMII at this point.

636 imo only having experienced the 527... Zco's turrets are meh imo. Glass is nice but if the glass in the 636 is as good as the good ole boys here are claiming, I'm willing to pick one up here shortly in p5

Between what you can find the PM II for as you appear to be savvy and what ZCO goes for, especially with 10M turrets and such…you won’t find a ZCO in my safe.

But you also won’t find a PM II 5-25, 5-45, 5-20US, etc..

That is correct, they offer it in Ral8000 with the low profile DT turrets, but did not with the DTII+, atleast they could not sell me one at this point. I suspect the same goes for the MT turret.
I'm sure Jerry would be happy to put on some black DT II+ turrets onto your Ral8000 body for $$$

What do you guys think about the DT27 & DT35 turrets? Not just the clicks, but how they operate (and why do they offer both turrets on the same scope?).

I have a 5-25 with the DTII+ turrets, but I’m not a turret snob. Currently, as a varmint hunter, I hold for elevation and wind but might start dialing for elevation.

Honestly, the DT27 & DT35 are probably best suited for hunting & DMR type shooting. They're low profile and have a capped turret, so not really ideal for dialing every distance and more for holding.

The clicks are very fine and very close together. It's very hard to quickly dial an exact number. Worst SB turrets made imo

As far as I'm aware, they were made specifically for the Bundeswehr G28 solicitation back around 2013 or so. They originally made a custom one-off lower profile turret for the 3-20x PM2 (aka not-Ultra Short). The D27 and later D35 followed as the official low-profile locking turrets. Probably not the worst turrets, but kind of niche.

Ok, thanks guys. Just so I have this straight…

On the 6-36:
  • DT27 = 14 clicks/rev with 27 mrad total
  • DTII+ = 16 clicks/rev with 30.5 mrad total
  • DT35 = 18 clicks/rev with 35 mrad total
Seems like unless I need 35 mrad total travel, a DT27 (with its greater distance between clicks) would have better click-feel than the DT35?

Of course the DTII+ is the preferred (for me). Even though it has more clicks/rev than the DT27, what I’m hearing here is that due to its internals that the clicks are better. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Edit: here’s a pic of the 6-36 DTII+ turrets.

And here’s the same turret on the 5-25:

Carbonbased,
don't forget they also have the 0.05mrad turret, which I believe they call MT II... this thing has something like 39.5mrad of elevation, spaced out in 0.05mrad instead of 0.1mrad. Not sure who needs 0.05mrad clicks, but maybe at the ranges associated with 39.5mrad, 0.05 is a 'big f'ing deal'...

How about user opinions of the GR2ID reticle? The P5FL isn't doing it for me, as I like tree reticles. GR2ID however appears to have lots of extra dots, especially above zero. As usual, S&B reticles don't do it for me.

The GR2ID is very usable in practice. The Tree fades into the background.

I have 2 off the .05mil MT 39.5mil P5FL ... and 1 of the DT 35mil Gri2D ....The MT turrets are my favourite..

I opted for the black, did not want to wait. Scope arrived today!
My first look at the DTII+ turrets, first thing I noticed is that the hash marks does not quite line up on the scope body/turret. This annoys me a bit..
Went with the Gri2d reticle, have not had time to look closely at it yet. I wish they would offer this scope with the LRR-mil reticle, I really like it. Even though the P5FL are somewhat similar.

are you referring to the windage? Because thats a feature and not an actual issue. I had sent my scope back for the same reason but you're supposed to look at the windage from behind the optic where the hash marks line up perfectly. Its an S&B quirk that Jerry told me about.

Thats interesting, I was not aware. In my case it is the elevation turrett. Cannot believe they have done something similar there(?), I guess most people look straight at the elevation turrett from behind when dialing.

But, only messed with it for a short while, will take a closer look tomorrow.

Adjust the knob when you zero out the turrets. You can make it align perfectly if wanted.
Is that the case? Even if loosening the two set screws to zero, the turrett still «clicks». Therefore I have been thinking that the turrett itself, and alignment cannot be changed this way.

I have not yet loosened the set screws, will give it a try tomorrow👍🏻

nah there's some tensioning that you can wiggle around when you loosen the screws to zero. Everything lines up afterwards.
what you do when you zero is, you push down on the turret to get any air pockets or whatever out and then tighten.

Yeah, I didn’t include that just because there’s a bit too much happening on that turret 😂

Anyone happen to compare the feel of the 6-36 DT27 (14 clicks/rev) vs the 6-36 DTII+ (16 clicks/rev)?

For example, I wasn’t quite sure want version of the DTII+ @Huskydriver had used as it comes in two flavors:
  • 16 clicks/rev for the 6-36, 5-45, & 3-27
  • 14 clicks/rev for the same turret on 5-25

Nitpicky, I know.

I have used all the above including both versions of the dtii+ and mtii and I will never own a dt27 or 35 period hard stop lol.

Cool, thanks for the info! Seriously. Frank should give you an AI and S&B info award or something.

Or at least gift you some hair product (just razzing…at least you have hair)

Same here. The DT27 is the “better” low profile turret, the DT35 is abysmal, clicks are way too close, easy to miss and over travel, MTC too hard so you go over/under by .2-.3 almost every time. DT II+ is like Schmidt hired the engineer from tangent theta, it’s completely different experience from DT27/35 in every way. The lock/unlock is brilliant and MTC is about perfect. I had the equivalent of the MTII .05 turret on my 5-45 and hated it, it has like 17 revolutions to it and not needed unless you’re f class/Bench rest shooter.

I hear this is THE scope to beat now, optically. is that true?
We don't know because no one has their hands on a TT735P yet to compare. With the ZCO527 multiple people here have said it edges it out overall or matches it, and sorta crushes the ZCO840.
Patiently waiting on @Glassaholic or Ilya to do their thing soon enough.

@BuLLet has. They recalled them for parallax issues right out the gate though lol
