NewCon LRM3500M (35BT) LRF First Impressions

I’ve been in Afghanistan for the last few months. I’m stuck over here until this covid bs is over with. I haven’t used my LRM for probably 6 months now. It does what it’s supposed to do so I don’t really know how else to test it. I use it when I need it. I bought it for my ELR rifle but unfortunately my reamer spec was off and I’ve been having case head separations. Chamber oversized. Brass undersized..... when I get back RCC has brass spec’d to my chamber so hopefully that works out and I can get to using the LRM at ELR distances.

If I'm interpretating this accurately if one were denied range using the laser they may be able to range using the GPS? I imagine this could be acheived externally, but is it possible onboard (internally)?

Looking seriously at this laser. Anyone have any updates or new experiences?

Sadly,
I though I would be shooting more ELR than I have been so I haven’t been using the LRM much. I’ve been waiting on a build to be competed.

My chief complain is that when ranging really far targets can be difficult. The pressure needed to press the range button can move you off target which makes it hard to hit small targets at far distances. However, the NewCon Android app allows you to remote fire the laser so that shouldn’t be much of an issue. I’m an Apple user and I was told there won’t be an Apple app for the range finder.

Also, and as with many range finders, having fully charged batteries is important for performance. I did notice that there was a significant performance drop when the batteries weren’t fully charged.

Seems like the Steiner M830 1535nm LRF beats this in price and maybe performance. The Bluetooth dongle that links with the Kestrel is extra though. But still significantly less than this newcon. The Steiner doesn't have the app and extra features this one does. Its just one hell of a laser. In the area of Michigan I live it's pretty flat but it's a struggle to have a clear field of view of more than 2 miles. In this AO I can range anything I can see with the naked eye. Longest object I ranged with mine was a boat 9104yds off the N Carolina coast. Not trying to hijack this ancient thread, just thought I offer an opinion on a comparable LRF.

I’ve been looking at those as well.

Where are you seeing them significantly cheaper than the newcon?

If you had it to do over again…..

Would you stick with the newcon or get a Plrf25c. For argument sake, let’s say both cost the same.

Significant here remains that the Steiner M830 1535nm (2681) are binoculars while the Newcon 35BT is a straightforward LRF monocular. As such I imagine there's advantages and disadvantages to each and different for every user. Both sound good. I must have forgot to click on "post reply" when I wrote this--Friday--because here it remains. All questions--and answers--are, well, 76...

For anyone interested. I’ve decided to sell the LRM3500. I haven’t been on a single ELR shoot for over a year and well I do not believe that’s going to change any time soon unfortunately.
