I stand corrected.

The Barloc DOES headspace a 6xc Criterion and Shillen prefit in both the Nucleus and Savage action.

The other pic shows the length of threads on a Criterion. My other Shillen was almost identical.

So I would assume the other Savage Prefit Barrel I have by McGowen would work just fine? Did you cycle the bolt with both those barrels. There was some mention on another thread about some concerns of the extractor or something when cycling on a Savage prefit that was not made just for the Nucleus.

Are you using a bullet to check headspace? What things do you look for that makes it go/no go?

I own both a go gauge and no-go gauge in this caliber (specifically because of the switch barrel setup).
Using a go-gauge with 1 piece of scotch tape on the back is acceptable as well.

I headspace off the new brass that I am going to use only if the gun will be shot exclusively with handloads and that brass. That is the wrong way to do it. If I am going to use factory ammo, I headspace off of the go gauge.

Savage uses "minimum headspace" from the factory, which is they bottom out the go gauge, and then tighten the barrel nut. If it is that tight, then it won't close on the no - go gauge or with tape. If you get a go and no-go gauge, and get a feel for how much rotation is required on the barrel, you'll see. I exclusively used go-no go for a long time.

Don't do any of this unless you have read up on what it all means. And, it may be of note that the go and no-go gauges are the best headspacing, but actually the field gauge tests to see if it is too large. Bottom line, read a lot. Study the books and info out there. And, you can set headspace, but you are responsible for what you do. If you understand what headspace is, then you can do it intelligently and carefully.

In parting, if you have ever measured ammo from different manufacturers, you'll see that case size can change pretty dramatically, relatively speaking. And, think about fire forming for AI, those cases are extremely "short". The go/no go gauges are so that you get it within the specs so that ammunition within the tolerances will fit in a factory rifle.

I'm wondering if a traditional stock with a deeper footprint

I have a manners and a couple mcmillans sitting around and as soon as I pick up my action I’ll answer the port and bolt handle questions. I put a SR3 in a 700 Mickey inlet and had to do a buttload of sanding for the bolt handle. Hoping I can avoid that with the Nucreus

I believe LRI only sells chambered barrels. I believe Sierra wants unchambered barrels.

savage prefits use a barrel nut. LRI is turning shouldered barrels

I was also interested to see if there are any recommended torque specs, or special insteal instructions. Do you guys like grease or anti-seize for you shouldered barrels?

I have been changing my barrels out the old fashioned way...a barrel vise. I always use white lithium grease. Will use the same once my action gets here.

PVA is doing the action wrench with release slated for July 20. Nucleus specific BarLocs for savage type barrels are currently backordered. The recoil lug has the taper for the Barloc built in. I’m hoping that there will be enough room on the threads for a non nucleus Barloc to work as that is what I have at the moment. Fit it up on an SR3 and it is super simple.....but there wasn’t enough clearance with their rail for it to work.

The only difference is the tapered recoil lug does not have the nub on top. If you use the Nucleus recoil lug and the tapered washer, it should fit. I had nearly 1/4 inch of extra thread on my Shillen with Barloc on my Nucleus.

Finally got mine (single digit SN!) yesterday.

The bolt lift is surprisingly light (I had TriggerTech Primary trigger installed on mine), even when comparing to two-lug design.

I got it with Nucleus barloc, and it headspaced NSS Criterion pre-fits no problem.

The bolt stop is different from the CAD shown on ARC's website. Instead of a polished pear-shaped knob on the left side, it's round with checkering - I think I like the CAD design better, because it clearly shows the position of the rotation.

Overall I'm very happy with it, and at pre-order price it's a steal. Wish I ordered one more.

No complaints. Fit and finish is excellent. Bolt lift is shorter, and I wouldn't trade it for a lighter bolt lift at this point. Throw is shorter and lift is lighter than any factory action I have run. And, it is very smooth to cycle.

It does break in with some cycling and dry fire, and I bet it will continue to break in. I can see very even wear on the bolt head and all the lugs in the action where the finish is wearing down as the action smooths out. The toroidal system works pretty amazing in that aspect.

I have very limited experience with any custom actions to compare, so can't give you any direct feedback. Also, I like nice stuff, but I am not gonna be completely picky. It's good enough for this trigger jerker.

I am gonna shoot it tomorrow, if all goes to plan.

I too was a little sad to see they changed the shape of the bolt stop, but then again I think a tear drop design could cause issues with scope mounts blocking the rotation of the bolt stop. With the round style there’s nothing really to worry about.

Picked mine up during lunch today (for those still trying to do vudoo math, i was order 245X and this serial number is in the 60s).

Obviously the machining & finishing work is top of the line. Im glad they kept the Mausingfield bolt knob. I think I got more purchase on the tear drop shaped bolt stop at SHOT rather than the knurled knob, but that could be because I was playing with my stripped action vs the JH rifle at SHOT. I wish the bolt lift was a bit lighter, but the short throw is slick. The thing that really got me is closing the bolt - I havent felt any action quite like it. This is defintiely the highest end action ive owned, but ive played with pretty much all of them at some point. Closing the bolt almost felt assisted - similar to an assisted opening folding knife if that makes any sense. I can run this bolt faster than any other action ive tried because of it. Can't find a single thing to complain about - even the serial number location is slick - very clean appearance. I too wish I wouldve ordered a 2nd, but in long action.

Unrelated, but if anyone has had enough waiting for a barrel, im selling a brand new PVA 21" 308 savage prefit. I need to fund some other projects and this was a secondary barrel to my 260, so it can go. Small discount on price ($40), big discount on lead time haha

The mausingfield action feels the same way when you close the bolt, it feels like it closes itself, very nice
