Yeah I know the quick change barrel is pretty sweet, but I can find time in the day to change a barrel with a wrench though also.
Never owned one, but two of my buddies do and Ive never seen them out shoot my customs in a variety of ranges. Not really a test, Im sure there accurate.
If they could go from .338-.243 I'd be all over it for that price, and probably buy 2 or three barrels, but the within the same family of cartridges I just dont really get.

You do realize a AI AW prior was $6k and this is an AW ... With upgrades.
Besides Who builds a good custom rifle for under $4k nowadays ? One that is switch barrel capable.
Its an Accuracy International , they have never been considered a low budget rifle.

I highly doubt this claim!!! AI offers the accuracy of a precision rifle but it is built like a tank. You clearly have not shot or owned an AI rifle.
If you'd like to test it let me know, you shoot 3 5 shots at 600, and I'll shoot 3 5 shots at 600. I've never shot a group over 4" at that range.
Sounds like you've never shot in wind nor at 600 very many times or you're simply the baddest man on the planet.
I'm starting to suspect you just want to hate on AI, or you don't know what you're talking about, but I will give you the benefit of the doubt in the spirit of education.
You can get a FIXED, non threaded AI AT WITH switch barrel capability for around $3800. That is their Mil-spec, bulletproof action and ridiculous accuracy in a Chassis that will be flawless as far as feeding, etc. If you want a folder (which you would pay extra for at your smith's or from McMillan, etc) you pay an extra $400. If you want the AI brake and a threaded barrel, add another $400.
I personally agree that $400 for a brake and threaded barrel is a bit high. So I will get the non-threaded version, have my personal smith thread it to Class III spec for $75 and have my $125 brake put on and save $200.
Yes you can get some great custom guns built, but for a Premium Action/Barrel/Chamber job done at GAP or another high-end smith with same resale value as you would get with an AI, forget it. Plus, once they are on the shelf there is no collecting/waiting on parts/and smith to do work. You call Mile High or Euro, and you get a premium gun with one of the best/most reliable actions out there with silly accuracy. Oh ya, and NOW if you want to switch calibers, you have a pre-fit barrel in a different caliber within days if it's in stock and you don't have to send your gun off for weeks/months to do the switch, you can do it at the range!

I live in Central Valley CA so wind is pretty much always under 10 MPH. And I shoot at distance pretty regular, I'm fortunate to have access to a lot of land, so I don't take it for granted and love shooting.
Thanks for the info on the rifle, I'm not trying to bash it, I'm just trying to figure out why I wouldn't have a barreled action made and use the AIAX chassis or get the AT. For $4600 I'm thinking going barreled action, that's all I'm saying.

And for the record. My last GAP switch barrel was over 5k with 2 barrels. Granted its about as pimp as you can get from them since its a Team Gun Clone. AI's new price point is insanely competitive with the top smiths in the country.
That said....normal rifles like my GAP win out over the AI for comp use for a couple of reasons.

All in good fun. We're all drawn to different things for different reasons. I'm a big Win M70 fan so the 3 pos safety (a true safety IMO) is one of the things that pushed me over the edge on an AE MkIII. I wouldn't spend the $$ on an AX but that's just me. There are lots of combos out there that will get the job done - whatever that is - at varying price points.

If you don't realize the difference between an AI and a custom, then I recommend you buy the custom. It sounds to me you're only seeking accuracy, not ultimate durability and reliability along with accuracy, and there are plenty of smiths out there that can turn that out for you while saving you money.
And anyone paying website MSRP prices for these are idiots. Call Mile High or EuroOptics for the real price...
I wish I could say I've NEVER shot over a 4" group at 600. Must be the best shooter on the planet. Or a liar.

The AT has me thinking very hard about selling some rifles and going for it. My biggest worry is about offset after swapping around barrels. I like to chase the lands and keep match reloads at .020 jump. Worried I would reload 300 rounds then have that jump disappear and be jamming them, or being more than .040 off and start loosing accuracy and velocity. Can anyone with knowledge about how the barrel change system works pm me or reply to this thread?

The distance to the lands won't change.
Its the same thing with current AE/AW/AX rifle barrels...I had my barrel pulled on my AE to have Mile High thread it, and when Adam put it back on the distance to the lands did not change even .001.

You may get different choices with a *slightly* cheaper price, and I understand that thought process completely, but I'm having a hard time on the more accurate part. It's also hard to beat calling AI up and ordering a barrel, putting in on yourself in a few minutes (even faster now), and having a hammer of rifle. I've had 3 different barrels in the past couple of years in different calibers and they've been absolute lasers. As far as I'm concerned, AI, Dave Tooley, and Bartlein have made magic.
The proof is in the pudding.
Rounds 26-30 for load development on my .243 barrel on my Mk III (prone, bipod, and rear bag).
After a few hundred rounds of me using the .243 at comps, my wife shot this 5rd group with a little coaching (she shoots very, very seldom).

Man what a conundrum just when I get ready to pull the trigger on the MRAD I read this thread. I know very little about the AI platforms and have never heard a bad thing about them and now they definitely have my curiosity. I do have a few questions about the AT vs the AX. I really want the 338LM and the 300WM which would put me on the AX magnum. Can the magnum be barreled down to any of the smaller calibers 308, 260, 6.5, etc or can it only run the magnum cartridges? The link below from Mile High is for the AX Magnum is that $7735 for both the 338 and 300WM barrels?

I am just a casual shooter, competitor, and hunter. In my opinion:
I would prefer the AT308 the most. I dont need NV or forward rails the AX provides.
I would still buy the AX308 if the AT wasnt offered.
The AXMC is my least preffered model. I dont need the quick change barrel capabilities of the MC. I am fine just spinning on a pipe with a action wrench and vise. Although it is cool technology. I also dont NEED the extra capabilities of .300 MAG or .338 LAPUA. BUT, I would still probably buy one if it was the only model available in left hand. I would still probably run short action cartridges 9:1.
To me the AT308 or AX308 would sell better than the flagship model AXMC because of price and lack of competition in the left hand market for "on the shelf" accurate rifles. But I have no affiliation to the gun industry other than just an end consumer.
Does the AXMC come with both barrels for that price? I looked on Mile High and it doesn't clarify what cal you are getting 338 or 300?
I likewise shoot primarily for fun, and an AT in .308 Win would probably best suit my purposes.
I'm not partial to the 308 either I'd probably pull the .308 barrel as soon as I got it and get a 6.5 or 6mm barrel as I'm already rigged for it.

No i don't have a suppressor for it.
I'm think'n the AAC QD is a good choice, but if the QD muzzle brake is less effective than the stock AI brake, i will opt for another suppressor.
I'm pretty new here, but are there any other caliber barrels already available for the AT or are they yet to be released? I don't mind getting the rifle in .308 but I would like to get my hands on a 6.5 CM barrel..
The other calibers such as the 6.5 CM will be available within a month or two of the AT becoming available, call Mile High.
The barrels are already available. The AT uses the same barrel as the AW and AX.
The only difference between current barrels and the new Quick Release barrels are the flats towards the muzzle, as in the PSR barrels, just in case you feel compelled to put a 19 MM wrench on the barrel.

Yes, you would need to buy the magnum rifle and then the 308 conversion stuff. I haven't seen pricing posted, I'd call euro optic or mile high.
Just got off the phone with Mile High. I spoke with an extremely helpful lady. They sell a Bartlein AI replacement barrel for something like 750$ unthreaded. I assume it's quality since it's a Bartlein. Does anybody have any experience with this? Specifically the 6.5 CM. Also, is there a noticable difference between the Bartlein and the AI barrel?
Ok got it. So would the 308 conversion be specific to just the axmc or its just the ax conversion. If it's just the ax conversion then I'm guessing it will fit all the calibers and not just 308?
Speaking for myself…I would take anything you offered if it were LH. My preference would be the new model so I could change calibers.
