What do you think about a thunderbeast 30p that is threaded 3/4 24? Thunderbeast said they can build one for me in this thread pitch. That would take the brake/adapter out of the mix (this would save weight and take the stacking tolerances out of the equation), it is titanium and light, they have a good rep for accuracy, rated for .300WM, quicker turn around time than the DTA, and with the group buy going on I can get it for less than half the price of the DTA with brake ($790) if I order before sept 6. It would be my dedicated DTA suppressor (not planning on shooting a conversion larger than ..300WM) Any input on this setup?

TV, the only remote concern is that without a brake there is less metal to take the brunt of each shot and your can's blast baffle will likely be eroded faster than with a brake. I have an SAS Ti Reaper on the way and have their TOMB mount on all barrels, from .223 to 300win.
yes i have read that definitelu a factor to consider....and probably more of an issue with the short barrel setup in the Covert.....I hope I get to shoot enough to wear out a suppressor

Just ordered 1000 of the new lapua scenar 175-L bullets. Wondering if anyone has loaded any of these yet for the DTA platform. I will be loading for the .308 22inch conversion. Mine seems to like the bullets loaded long. OAL to lands with 175 smk is 2.92"

I haven't run those new 175s, but I've had great results with 175SMKs in my .308WIN covert barrel, with both Varget and N540. Since Scenars traditionally handle the transonic stage better than SMKs, and the Scenar-Ls are so uniform, you should be able to take them farther than you'd expect.
I've got over 1000rds of .338 Lapua and a goodly number of 6.5X47, .338BR and .308(full auto 20rd bursts) through my can with no worries about erosion. The idea of using a sacrificial brake isn't my idea of the thing to do. The brake uses up space that could also be used for the suppressor. I think a lighter, smaller can can be used for thread-on than for brake mounts but everyone has their own choice to make. I wouldn't use erosion of the can as an excuse to push a brake mount though.....

What I load here at DTM has nothing to do with what you load yours at. CE runs a "seal tite band". Go to Cutting edges website and read up on seating for their projos. It will save me from taking another 25 calls about why groups are sucking.

Hard to say because if you look at their last chassis, the skins may have changed color values. For example, take a look at what's posted at Eurooptic:

That cerakote matches quite nicely. On the other hand, here is my Gen 1 rifle (circa 2009) with FDE cerakote
There's a slight difference, but honestly aesthetics in rifles don't mean a whole lot to me.
Sure would be nice if they would mention that on their website, or on the phone. Kind of an important detail.
What about 350SMK? Any experience with them?

Why would they be using non-standard barrels on their rifles, and selling projo's that only work in their rifles, and not disclosing that? If that's true... it's very disappointing. One of my customers (HTI owner) bought several hundred of them.

They contacted me wanting me to use those bullets in my factory ammunition. It's a no/go in a standard bore, even though they may tell you different. They go bang, that will be the end of the happiness. They are made for the lost river bore and when shot in that style barrel, they rock. I have shot close to 5000 when I had my original 2 lawton barrels. I still have a bunch of 408, might need to sell them, but I have them.Don't confuse these new Cheytac guys with the old ones. I have talked to them a few times on the phone and other than trying to convince me that the bullet would work, pssst, I do this for a living, they were nice enough. Sucks about your customer. I fully endorse the Cutting edge projo, that's what we shot to 3100 yards at a 1000 yard bullseye for 8 consecutive hits with 24" of vertical.
As far as the 350 SMK's. I have shot a good many of them as well. You WILL lose range. I repeat!!! You WILL lose range. A lot of it. They are far far inferior to the solid bullets for flight and transition. The reason you can shoot them in both a standard bore and a lost river profile is because the cup core conforms to the bore where the solids do not. Thats why you generally see lower powder charges with the cup core, higher pressure.

have been trying to search around but cant find what im looking for, Does anyone know if there is a way of making/fitting an aftermarket monopod to the SRS ? like the Accushot monopod. After ordering mine i did not realize how important it would be, but its to late.

I saw somebody just threaded a screw into their rifle to make a monopod (it might have been earlier in this thread). It is not nearly as cool as the factory DTA setup, but if you need it that might work until you can get a factory DTA one.
To add to what Russ says requires a bit of a history lesson. The first iteration of Cheytac was developing the cartridge with LRBT (Warren Jensen) providing the bullet and Lawton (back when Barney was around) providing the barrels. They went through several prototypes before determining, somewhere around early 2001, their copper/nickel alloy solid would perform best with a slightly different bore spec, to which Lawton made barrels to fit to the EDM Arms-built actions. The M200s built by that incarnation of Cheytac used Lawton barrels with the LRBT bore spec and were specifically designed to shoot the 305 and 419gr .408 bullets that LRBT made. LRBT went under in 2007ish and Cheytac took over the manufacturing of the bullets (as did Hooker Tactical to a degree). Around this time Cheytac bought what was then Jamison International to help expand bullet production as well as make .408 brass in-house (early stuff was outsourced to Bertram). And around this time Bill Ritchie and EDM Arms was putting out his .408 Windrunner after a spat with Cheytac, also using the LRBT bore spec, if I recall. And all this time, Lawton was continuing to make barrels with the LRBT bore spec as an option as others non-Cheytac related were shooting their solids with them. Then Barney passed away and Lawton Barrels went into a sad state and now they're gone too.
That's where the LRBT bore spec came from and why it basically died.

Apparently it's not dead, since they are selling bullets that only work in LRB. If they'd have "lost river" anywhere on their website... I would have known to stay away.
Russ, Can't tell you how much I appreciate your knowledge on this. Solid info regarding the 375CT is quite difficult to come by, and you just saved me some long hours. DTA is lucky to have you.
One more thing: Any advice on a start load of Retumbo behind a 350SMK? Seating depth?

The LRB was a mistake more than anything else. Too much time and money invested. Old news. They have a ton of the old stock i'm guessing. I can't see why anyone would want to keep the LRB in the works. It offers ZERO over the conventional offerings.

LRB decided to change the bore diameter instead of the projectile diameter forcing a prototype product to market most likely because they probably ran a large production batch of the bullets and didn't want to loose money on them. They could have just as easily made the bullets diameter work in standard bores then making barrels that were out of spec.
Is anyone running a .284 barrel? If so, how does it feed? What mags do you use, .300 win mag or .308?
My plan has been to build a 7mm RSAUM barrel, but I'm having second thoughts based on the case being able to feed properly. So I'm looking at other options in 7mm, the .284 seems like a decent option. I would love to hear about any personal experiences.

MGordon is selling a 7mm Creedmoor barrel for the DTA. You may want to ask him if there were any feeding issues
Covert question....I have a mark6 3-18 that I'm going to run on my covert. Do any of you guys know how many rail slots in front of the objective are required to sgueeze in a WASP or PVS 22? I don't care if the front of the wasp hangs a bit in front of the muzzle since i never plan to shoot without my can. The scope is less than 12" long and if I mount it a bit far back and max out the stock spacers for eye relief it may give me a several rail slots in front of the objective to work with. In looking at pics online I may be able to get 8 or 9.

Greg, I know propulsionclimbing had a .284 barrel for his gun for quite some time, just sold it not too long ago. He said he had had terrible problems getting it to feed, so much in fact he almost gave up on it. I went the other way, and had Mark build me a 7SAUM barrel. It feeds ok from the magnum magazines, but one needs to be careful to avoid a bad feed. I am sure with a little magazine alteration, this problem would be taken care of.
I think you're going to be hard pressed to get a NV clip-on setup working on a covert, even with a short scope.
Yet another reason for an intermediate length handguard. I've been actually working on a more easily swapped out handguard setup for my SRS, one that could be done in the field with the same tools used in barrel conversions. One of my motivations was to be able to have a handguard that would allow a covert barrel with suppressor to be enclosed properly. Unfortunately a hobbit, some dwarves and a dragon are having me work 7 day weeks now, so I haven't made much progress recently.
I am loving my SRS A1. Shot the 260 26" barrel (Federal Fusion 120 gr.) and very impressed with the results. 0.76 MOA-not bad, since still getting used to proper handling of the rifle. Have some 140 gr. to try next. Rainy and 72 degrees yesterday AM (in Phoenix!) while shooting with little wind. The Range Masters and several shooters gathered around as we change to the 22" 308 barrel and were up and running again in less than 2 minutes. Let several people shoot it and they were amazed at the size and great ergonomics. Really see no need for the covert with the great balance and compact size of the SRS. Feel it's really more of a novelty than a truly practical set up. Just my opinion, of course!
It's not a novelty to LE snipers, that's for sure. A 16" 308 in that short of a package? Most LE snipers I know would cough up a testicle to have that instead of their 20-26" 700's.

I had a 6.5 barrel cut by Schneider, a 5R 1-8 twist and chambered by Predator Custom shop in Knoxville in 6.5 Creedmoor
I took it out the other day for the first time with my wife. I just moved so all my loading components are packed away so I bought some factory 120 grain ammo from Cabellas. We went to the range and I ran 5 rounds through it to sight it in. Ran a few wet then dry patches to clean it, fired a few fouling shots then told my wife to shoot a 5 round group.
Now keep in mind, my wife has never shot a precision rifle.
So she starts firing, but I have to work the bolt for her.... She's left handed and the DTA is kinda awkward for left handers. Now I can't see how she's doing. On the last shot she says "Damn, I missed that one".
So I look through the scope and this is what I see.
A .333 group (minus the flyer) from a first time shooter...... First rounds she's ever fired from a precision rifle. Factory ammo from a barrel that only has about 10 rounds through it.
DTA just makes it easy.

Well my SRS-A1 (FDE/FDE/monopod with 338 LM conversion) that I ordered from Primal Rights showed up at my FFL dealer today. It is a great gun and I am very impressed thus far. I sold my early Gen 1 SRS 338 LM to get this one and I am just blown away by how much more refined the A1 chassis and conversion is compared to my earlier gun. My previous SRS was an excellent shooter and worked great so I am excited to mount my scope on this one and get out shooting to try it out. Great job guys!

2. How much different are your zeros when switching between rifles. I'm guessing it's not a whole lot. I had a difference of less than a mil each way when I moved my scope from my .22LR 50 yard zero to my .308 100 yard zero, but that might not be true.
