Hey guys, been reading up on this in the forums for a while but I am still having a hard time selecting a new scope for my semi 7.62.

Kind of a tough question... I am looking to step up to better optics... (The wife is still kicking herself for buying me the Magpul Precision Rifle Videos)

My setup :
LWRC REPR with 16" barrel - PRS Stock, Gisselle 2 stage trigger, Blackout flash hider
AAC SDN-6
Larue/Harris bipod setup

My activities:
Bench rest
field shooting /prone
Hog hunting
Varmint
Coyote hunting.
Steel target " tactical" courses

Really my decisions are narrowed down to a 4-15x scope and def FFP.

looking at

Night force F1
Premier 3-15
USO TPAL

S&B is a bit too pricy for me right now... Even the USO is a stretch but I figure I'm already 5 gs in so why not?

Biggest questions are on reticles and knobs /tracking for these brands and your guys experience with each..
Leaning toward a NF F1 but still like the others.... Oh and if that were not enough do you guys see any use for the H58 or H59 in a 16" semi?

Thanks

For a 16" gasser; I would also think about size/ weight. On my SR-25 EMC, I kind bounce between my Swaro Z6i for closer stuff, and then I throw on my NF 3-15. Works great for now, but the NF is just too big for it. I'm personally waiting for the new Leupold Mark 6 3-18 w/H58 to come out. I've gotten to use one a few times and I must say it's a great scope, and definately the right size for a 16" gun. Unfortunately it's not yet available, but if you can wait a couple more months, I would think it's the way to go.

I've got a Leupold Mark 4 2.5-8x36 MR/T (TMR reticle) on my Grendel, and it's fine out to 600 meters. I like the fact that it is a 'no-parallax' optic. It seems pretty tough and so far the turrets have shown excellent repeatability.

If I wanted to go out to 1000 meters I'd probably go with the Mark 4 LR/T 3.5-10x40.

I like Leupold's price point/value.

i'm looking hard at the nightforce f1 with the lv.5 reticle. it works really well on a 762 platform. it would give you a good balance, you could dial if you want, or use hold overs. it would work well for hunting/field shooting, though you might want a little more magnification for bench rest.

The turrets would be user preference. Some people like how it's harder to turn the knobs so they you can't accidentally bump it out of adjustment. Some people like the MTC, some people don't. I've had both and like both. I don't think I could go back a covered turret again.

Re: Optics selection for semi 7.62 -advice?

I had a USO 1.8-10 on mine for a couple of years. The more I stretched out the gun and got comfortable with the AR for distance, the more mag I wanted. I am running an IOR 3-18 on it now.

The only two complaints I have for NF is:
1. Focus ring also rotates ocular bell
2. Illumination Adjustment is set by opening up the Battery compartment and using a screwdriver. Whereas just about everyone else has a externally adjustable brightness

Re: Optics selection for semi 7.62 -advice?

I run a 2.5-10x24 NF with Mildot ret. I love it!! Nice and small but still 10x. With that said , I have an another 2.5-10x24 with NP-R2 ret that I want to trade off for an Elcan!! I really think the Elcan is the way to go on a CQB/Battle rifle!! All depends on how accurate you need. I'm very good with my 10x out to 500. Any farther and i want more mag just to be more accurate!!

I actually like this feature because is gives more surface area to rotate if I have to change magnification settings. I personally find it easier to grab the entire ocular rather than having to grab just the power ring itself. Wish the same design was incorporated on the compact line as well.

Oh........Jay and I agree that you should do something like this. Primary, secondary, tertiary, and irons.

that is exactly what I want to do. I'm not buying anymore scopes with out looking through them and seeing how the actually feel and operate.

But that means waiting for Shot....which is a long ways off.

Buy and re-sell....buy again and re-sell....tired of that method.

Re: Optics selection for semi 7.62 -advice?

Looks like I might be going Pemier now... Stopped by the local tactical shop and got my hands on the premier turrets and I love the heft of the scope.... I'm gonna keep checking out reviews too. Have ou guys heard of any other issues with the premier since they fixed the " mushy " turret problem?

Turns out they are just up the road from my house in VA... That way I can just " drop in" if I have any issues...hha
