I went to work one morning two years ago, and noticed my gut was burning a bit, like drinking orange juice on an empty stomach. Thought maybe I was going to have diarrhea coming but never did. By 1130 I knew it was "something" of importance and left before lunch a few minutes early so I could go to the ER. Went home and had my wife drive me. ER was packed so they drew blood and sent me back to the waiting room. Didn't get to see a Dr. until 18:00. By that time it was barely hurting anymore, but my white blood cell count was a bit elevated. He suspected viral enteritis, but he ordered a CT anyway and at 1830 it was done and he came back (slightly grinning) and said he had called the surgeon to come remove my inflamed appendix. He was able to do it by laparoscopic technique and no kidding I was back in my recliner at home by 2230. Recovery was a cinch.
I never developed pain in the Rt lower quadrant, or "rebound" pain (I was actually testing it myself before I got to the ER) so it wasn't a classic presentation, but it was high on my list of differentials before I was examined. Pics from the laparoscope showed it to be red and swollen, with an area of thinning where white pus was visible through the wall. Imminent rupture, but not quite there yet.
I'm not on any kind of "diet", but my normal eating habits aren't too far from what people call Atkins, or Keto. I just don't care that much for breads and sweets, although I will eat some rice or potatoes in small amounts. That said, I believe diet has little to do with it based on the observation that it seems to hit just about anyone regardless of their eating habits.
