PDA's & Handhelds & Ballistic Software oh my....

Re: PDA's & Handhelds & Ballistic Software oh my....

Nice setup. I saw one of your earlier posts and I like your tripod, so I ordered one from Vectronix for my LRF. It should be here in three weeks. I also ordered the cable with the trigger on it.

One of the features I just started using is the Kestrel weather information download. I picked up one of the Kestrel 4500 with the blue tooth and when you go into the program you can set it for continuous download and use meter data to compute solutions. It gives continuous download of DA, Barometric Pressure, Temperature, Humidity and Wind. I went to the range the other day, propped my Nomad up with a magazine so I could see it from my left eye and put my Kestrel on a little gorilla tripod and it gave me a continuous wind correction in mils. You can either choose to input LRF data manually or with range finders like the PLRF10C, you can automatically download. With the GPS on it gives a firing solution every time you push the button. You can go into targeting and record multiple solutions, select a different zero and it will provide hold overs and hold unders. If you calibrate your scope and all the info is correct that you entered, the solutions that are provided are extremely accurate. Still learning how to use the system to its fullest capabilities and having fun doing it.

Now that is an awesome set-up! I guess that is what pro's use and rookies want! One day, One day I will get there.....

Re: PDA's & Handhelds & Ballistic Software oh my....

Will the Iphone/Itouch apps work if your not in a wifi or 3g cell phone area? If I am on top of a hill or shooting range without Iphone service or wifi for the touch, am I screwed?

Re: PDA's & Handhelds & Ballistic Software oh my....

Itouch doesn't need any wireless connection to work.

You will need to enter your alt/temp etc. by hand.

I've used mine with Bulletflight out on the CO plains, and in NM at the NRA Whittington Center.

Re: PDA's & Handhelds & Ballistic Software oh my....

I use the ballistic FTE on my iPhone, it tracks really well using the G7 profiles. You will need to get the BC's out of the holy blue book. The FTE works great if you have a solid chrono reading.

If you don't know the exact fps of your round then I think the ATag software from Horus is great since you can true your gun to you load and it will back calculate your data based on your trueing. I have it on my palm but the battery life sucks and I have it on the Kestrel but it is hard to use on that thing.

Re: PDA's & Handhelds & Ballistic Software oh my....

Shooter for Android and iOs (Apple) lets you do the same thing with entering the actual mils dialed and distances(trueing). It even let's you enter more than one entry for the same Gun/round combination.

How do you true it? I have been running shooter for a while and love it, but have always wished I could true my algorithm. I wasnt aware it allowed you to.

Thanks
