I've got a couple of the Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50s and one Bushnell 6-24x50FG. I've been shooting behind the Vortex scopes for a couple of years, but have had the Bushnell for less than 6 months. My experience isn't really an apples-to-apples comparison, because the Vortex scopes are 2nd focal plane, while the Bushnell is FFP.
Whatever, I like the Vortex, both mechanically & optical-wise. However, it wasn't until I'd started shooting with the G2DMR reticle that I realized how small/fine the markings on the Vortex's EBR-1 MOA reticle are. After shooting with the G2DMR - mostly at full 24x - I wonder how I was able to keep track of the EBR-1's hashmarks while under time constraints, like when shooting movers. It remains to be seen, however, whether the G2DMR reticle's hashmarks will be any easier to keep track of while shooting movers with power set down around 10x.
Never had a complaint with Vortex's knobs - matter of fact, I like them a lot better than the ones on my Sightron SIIIs - they've got enough friction so that I don't have to worry about them betting turned off zero while removing the rifle from a drag bag, while the SIIIs are less than ideal in that respect. I also like the Vortex's zero stop - beats the dickens out of forgetting to come back down to your 100yd zero just as soon as possible after finishing a stage, then getting lost when shooting the next stage. Been there, done that - it sucks.
However, so far, I'm not having a problem remembering where I'm at with the Bushnell's 5 mil/revolution knobs. That may be an advantage using the mil system has over MOA - it takes far fewer mils for a come-up than MOAs. Time will tell - if I ever get lost while shooting behind the Bushy, I'll just have to eat crow and go on. Whatever - the Bushnell knobs & clicks give nothing away to the Vortex.
Optically speaking, the Bushnell seems brighter at 24x than does the Vortex, but I think it's a little easier to adjust the Vortex for a sharp image than it is with the Bushnell. I don't have this issue with my 34mm Bushnell 3.5-21x50 GZA ERS scope - it's good & sharp at 21x, whether at 100 or 1000yds. Maybe that as my eyes age (I'm 62), things that wouldn't have bothered me in the least when I was 40 are now more critical.
When it's all said 'n done, I don't have a clear favorite between these two scopes. I'm not gonna bad-mouth either brand. Neither scope is perfect, but they're both good values for the price.
