Just finished uploading a short review of a Pulsar Recon 550R Digital NV device. Ceylon at Delta Outdoorsman was kind enough to send this to us for T&E.

+1. A bit more A-B between the Pulsar and a PVS 14 would have been nice as a comparison.

I actually stayed away from that intentionally. I kept the still shot from the PVS-14 in there because this may appeal to those who were issued military NV and now want to buy their own. They will want to know the difference between it and what they were issued.

The guys who have the cash for a -14 aren't looking at a 550R. The guys who are looking at the 550R need to evaluate it based on their needs, not how it compares to a NV device well out of their price range.

Here is some footage from the PVS-14 and PVS-22 on a different night, but similar lighting conditions. I believe I had a little more moon on the 14/22 video.

Nicely done, I take it this is the monocular version of the 550 and not the rifle sight optic (N550), correct?

In your video some designations of the distances in view would have been helpful I couldn't tell if the up close work was 50 yards or 10 based on zoom and FOV. Also the beginning in the field same, was that 300 yards or 150 yards?

Lastly did you happen to capture any footage using "Da Torch" or a red or green laser device (non-IR lasers)....

Thanks again, first indepth video review I have seen on these devices.

Thanks for the video. I see digital night vision improving and becoming more popular in the coming years. I like that it is lower priced, and exposure to sunlight will not kill it. Still waiting on a rifle mounted version of the monocular because the digital scope looks too heavy and awkward.

I think that digital NV is really going to be the wave of the future. If you think about the improvements made in digital still and video cameras, it's not too much of a leap to see the same improvements in night vision. It is just too bad we don't have the same economy of scale for night vision as cameras. Everyone and their brother has a digital camera nowadays.

Well I am going to give the digital scope a try this weekend and will try to take some photos through the scope . We have a large tract of land in coyote country in north central pa . If it stays clear and I can get some good photos , I will try to post them .

PS I might need a bit of help posting photos
